He became successful quickly and he was everywhere you looked. It came from the jealousy, it even became a trend to not like him, it was "disgrace" when you liked him. Happily it seems to be over now, I was just tired of this widespread hatred.

Of course, famous people are still human and make mistakes as well, but there's a certain severity to his mistakes at his age that is pretty bad. Teenagers still know the difference between right and wrong for most things, and quite obviously he knew he was a bad influence to the many young fans he has when he did many of the things he's done.
