As someone who grew up in church its hard to hear that he felt this way because of other christians. I know theres people out there that "preach" the way hes talking about and its sad because those are the "christians" that aren't understanding Gods, Faith, the Bible, etc...Also I'm sure he came across this way more being in the industry (hollywood) b/c its full of people who not only tend to shun or think negatively about faith but just are straight up fake. I'm not a huge fan of him but I do respect him for this and that he's brave enough to open up.

Also, you have different denominations in the christian faith and so they all have different values and beliefs. The one where he talks about doing good deeds to find your "spot" in heaven or being in good graces with God really falls more into the catholic faith. Nothing against them at all, but It's not uncommon for someone to grow up Catholic (which is super structured) and then kinda fall out of that a lot. AGAIN, nothing against them, each denomination has something that is goofy and its just different interpretations of the Bible.

Because with science you get a broader perspective on life, you will understand that everything in your head has a scientifical explanation, for example serotonin deficiency. And thanks to education in psychology we know what treatments are best for patients. Religion dont do a shit. When did religion help starving children? Never! We have had starving children for thousands of years and religion haven't done anything about! But with science and education we can cure diseases, help cleaning water (technology can actually now turn poop water into drinking water in those areas where they lack water so they dont die, I haven't seen religion do that!). There are thousands of different religions, people believing in cows being gods or aliens. It is just brainwashing. And I hate that religion brainwashes people. Imagine if the time that people spend in churches/mosques/buddhist tempels if the actually would spend that time doing something that actually could help the world. Sitting and praying about that children shouldn't starve to death doesn't do anything, do something about instead! Stephen J Davies yeah that’s true. See, I grew up as a Pastor’s kid. My father was the pastor of a Lutheran church. As a kid, I was very religious and went to church and listened to my Dad preach. But as I got a little older, I started to not really like going to church all the time because being a Pastor’s kid I literally had to go every Wednesday and Sunday. And my parents didn’t believe in letting me and my siblings skip church so we always had to go unless we were practically dying. So once I graduated high school and got my own apartment I stopped going to church, and my parents asked me why and I told them I has working on the weekends for extra money (the truth be told I was actually going to a Baptist church because I found that I liked the whole Baptist concept better.) Well my parents found this out and they were very upset. Me and my Dad got in an argument and didn’t talk for months. Until January 13, 2013. I was 20 years old and my Mom told me my father was in a bad car accident. Before he died, we got to talk and make up and he said he didn’t care what denomination I converted to, as long as I continued to praise the Lord. It broke my heart and I felt so bad. After grieving and after praying, my Mom and my siblings all converted to Baptism with me. I still love and miss my father but he’s in Heaven. Well, in 2014 God called me to be a Pastor so one thing lead to another and here I am a Baptist Pastor!

The purpose of praying to Saint Michael the Archangel or the Virgin Mary is not for their worship, for worship belongs only to God, but for intercession. As an example, if you're applying for a job you need to get a reference form from your teacher/peer etc and their opinion is more important to the employer than yours. So is it the same with intercession, those who are closer to God in heaven can beseech God on your behalf as an intercessor. Just as you ask people for prayers, you ask saints for prayers too. But these saints are not gods or to be worshiped. They are human beings that have lived exemplary lives of holiness. Who says you can't have a relationship with Jesus Christ through holy men and women who are close to Him? :)

My daughter loves this kid. I know this post is 5 years old.....This is a huge step for this kid. I'm a musician so hearing secular music is a MUST for me, with that being said I watched him with Usher and his blowing up huge.........as men it says in Corinthians when we were kids we thought as kids acted as kids etc.....when WE became men .....well we put away childish things. The Christian community NEEDS people with platforms to speak up about God. I said all that to say....she's 8 and she LOVES his old school music......but ADORES him doing worship music. It's amazing how when you let the light shine in........it'll shine out illuminating the room. Great post thanks for sharing

Catholicism and Christianity. Two different things. I'm sick of every using the same phrase "I went to Catholic school for so and so years" that doesn't save you. And niether does preaching God is Love and that he'll love me no matter what. The clear message is that Jesus Christ sacrificed his life for our unworthy sinful souls and the only way to be saved is truly accepting Jesus Christ into your life and repenting of your sins. Not based on the amount of Hail Marys you get/give whatever or whether you follow a strict guideline in the Bible or even just preaching "God is Love" for the rest of your life, if you've never actually experienced what that love truly is.

Kyroh Lightbringer to repent from your sins is to have that sudden change of heart, that’s repentance. Not doing such and such. Any other work you do for your “salvation” is basically saying that what Jesus did on the cross wasn’t enough.

Teague Hester Jesus died on the cross for the original sin, he didn’t die so a murderer could go murdering people and simply change his mind and be saved. Repentance isn’t simply changing your mind, it’s taking action as well. Going the extra mile to right your wrongs. It’s nothing extra for your salvation, it’s righting your wrongs. It’s repenting for taking his sacrifice for granted. Jesus would’ve forgiven Judas if Judas would’ve confessed instead of killing himself.

As a Christian, I'm really happy about how much Justin "gets" about faith and who God is. As a Catholic (;)), just a bit disappointed about the misconceptions shared here. Yes, there's structure, yes there's tradition, AND yes, relationships with God and all of humanity are so vital! We aren't supposed to "go through the motions" of our religion, it's so much deeper than that, to say the least. Just as there are poor Protestant Christian witnesses, there are poor Catholic witnesses... but so many more awesome ones!

In my opinion, he is completely right about everything he said, and the best part is, he isn't trying to force it upon anyone. He said everything he said very respectfully toward other people's beliefs. The reason why everyone thinks this way of typical Christians, is because the majority of the people who talk alot about faith, are the judgmental ones who feel the need to fix everyone else's lives and act like they live perfect lives because they live their lives to certain moral standards. Everything is purely faith and belief no matter what you belief in, and just because you believe in it, does not make you better than everyone else.
