saw branford back in 2013 in Utah and Justin absolutely stole the show. He has such great energy. he stole the crowd, the show, got a standing O. it was bad ass.

Genius @ work. He's one of my favorite drummers. Jeff "Tain" Watts, Brian Blades and Carter Beauford are also favorites.

The first time I saw Justin play he was 17 years old. I knew then that this guy was going places.

I do not exagerate, I've met lots of great drummers, like Max Roach, Art Blackey, Justin is a phenomenal one.

i hope the drummer doesn't stop growing in his style cause he's got a lotta potential but is still kinda rough around the edges. BTW, where's the solo!!!!
@Jaredgoldmoney11 жыл бұрын
Kinda rough around the edges? Justin's playing is straight perfect! He's at the top of the game playing with some of the most notable and skilled jazz musicians of our era. This dude is the future!

Absolutely OK with Jared.

Jared Goldman tony williams, max roach, art blakey and elvin jones weren't perfect homeboy. he aint jesus!!!! that being said, i've seen WAAAY better from him (and lesser known drummers for that matter). as a drummer what he's playing seems like a throw away. BTW, just because he's played with big named cats don't make him "the future" of drumming, sometimes it just means you know the right people. he aint eric harland or justin brown by NOOOO means. he seems like a chris dave one off with that 70's era hitting the bell of the ride cymbal on the AND of every beat(that billy and lenny helped make popular). i'm just sayin.
@Jaredgoldmoney11 жыл бұрын
In all honesty I think he's right up there with Harland and Brown. The backbeat he's playing probably just fit the music the best, it's not like it's his sole artistic contribution to furthering the music. Not even mentioning how great it feels and that that itself extremely impressive. I don't really understand what you mean about Cohbam and White as grooves accenting the upbeat go WAY farther back then them. I don't say he's the future because he's playing with big name cats (although, most of guys he plays with only really mess with serious dudes) I'm judging him purely on his playing ability. You should really check out some more of his music, theres a lot of stuff up here of him. Only a true boss could replace Tain. You can't base your opinion of a guy on one video.
@MarcPlaysDrums11 жыл бұрын
Jared Goldman bro, i checked your video(the herbie tune). and in all honesty, i'm more impressed with you than i am with faulkner(your a hellova lot smoother and polished then him. he kinda has the basher thing going on. just being honest). and the lenny, billy comment said nothing of them inventing the ride cymbal thingy, but simply that they used it a lot and helped make it famous and again just because you play with known cats don't mean your that dude. many times it just means you've connected with the right people. there's a great quote i heard from a very well respected drummer, "some cats get gig's because they've shmoosed up to the right people or have history with the right people and some cats get gig's because they are just that good." and he actually stated that he admittedly was one of the shmoosers. actually i'm listening to your video as i'm writing this and YOU ARE A BEAST. your solo was dopeness personified. but, back to my point, homeboy isn't doing anything that impresses me. he plays the way i'm actually trying not to play like(in all realness) as opposed to your playing is how i'm trying to play.

He's definitely technically sound but I don't feel his playing is as informed by the rest of the band as some of the true cats out there, he is using shit out of his bag instead of working with whats on the table.
