From a fan's point of view, this is so on point with ATEEZ's personality. We love that their jokey selves came out in this. The storyline also changed from the revolution of world Z to adults who have to work to earn money in world A. Hence the total vibe change. I'm aware not everyone is going enjoy Ateez from the lore standpoint. But ATEEZ lore is the craziest kpop concept I've come across. And in contrary to what you said, this song was actually the best follow up to the previous albums. You're a musical expert, I'm sure you know what you're talking about. But as fans, we got the vibe we needed. We're working hard because Ateez said gotta work 💃

THANK YOU!!! I should have written that as well... lol I was way to nice after he spoke this way about my babies! This is what I wrote: I have to disagree with you on that. I don't think that they're trying to make a meme out of themselves. For one, they make soooo many kinds of music with endless genres, so this is just one out of 100 Second, I think it's one of the very few songs that don't "fit" their overall theme, and they really had fun. Not every song needs to fit everyone's standards. + I KNOW that when this song is performed live, they kill it. Third, you could say the same thing about JIN that made the Tuna song (as a joke for his birthday I believe), and it became such a hit, that he couldn't believe it himself. He really was joking and it became a huge trend everywhere.

ateez have always been a group that has a lot of fun with their music and music videos. I wouldn’t say they’re making fun of themselves they are simply just having fun! I think this is what makes them stand out so much in the best way possible. they are very different from a lot of other kpop groups and clearly it’s working in their favor because they are so loved!!! ateez don’t make music to please the general public they make music that they enjoy and what they personally like and I love that. and clearly it’s working if they were invited to perform at coachella. this album is #2 on the billboard 200 which makes it this years biggest sales week for a kpop album. this song matched their vibe well, I understand it not being your thing tho!! but this is how they’ve always been and we love it

This is not a follow-up to coachella. This is the new era/chapter in ateez's lore. they wanted a vibe they've never tried before. they don't make music to please the market. it's not a crime to be silly and have fun with your music. just because they're not (and never will - according to ateez themselves) following the formula you're thinking of, doesn't mean they won't connect with people outside their circle. WORK is already getting love from people outside our circle. i hope you can be open-minded in the future

I liked this song better after hearing 2 Korean Americans (Andy & Jas) discuss the meaning. They talked about about a line that used a kind of derogatory word for entertainers, following with 'but we're 멋." The Korean word is the title of another ATEEZ song about being humble and kind as you mature. They said the song is saying, we didn't take any shortcuts (like digging for gold, printing money, or a goose that lays golden eggs), we just worked really hard. Andy is a Park, he said the last scene is a reference to a Korean tale that the first Park was hatched from an egg. (The member who breaks from the egg is Park Seonghwa.) Later I realized, the ending scene verifies their interpretation. What came from their golden eggs isn't gold, it's a member of the group i.e. our efforts are the source of our success. They aren't mocking themselves--they're clowning the idea of easy money. ATEEZ's storyline transverses two worlds: A and Z. Their last album series was heavy and dark because it was almost entirely set in World Z. Chronologically, the last time we were in World A, the theme was about beginning a journey to follow their dreams. In that sense, Work is the perfect title for the next World A series because after you set your sights on a goal, you have to work toward them. ❤ I can't remember whether Hongjoong or Eden was the one who said, that if they ever make a song and realize it's sounds close to another ATEEZ song, they scrap it. The thing that makes Work musically quite different from their other songs is it's relative emptiness. It doesn't have nearly as many layers as most of their other music. BTW, ATEEZ stands for A to Z or A TEEnager Z, so the first syllable of ATEEZ is pronounced like the letter name, A (the second way you pronounced it).

Another thing about ATEEZ, Edenary, and KQ is they are unapologetically themselves. They will do what they want to do, not what you expect them to do or think they need to do to “break into a market”. They want to be loved and appreciated for who they are and how they express themselves. I was extremely happy to get Crazy Form and then Work after the Bouncy comeback (which was not a fav of mine although so many love it). And the whole album is just such a love letter to Atiny in areas of the world they haven’t had a chance to really visit with yet in concert, etc.

You say it's the wrong move for ATEEZ but they're already #1 on the charts. There's really no singular formula for attracting an audience. Plus, ATEEZ (and kpop groups in general) is always trying new styles and doing styles that suit them and 'Work' is right up their ally without having to compromise their sound or image. They don't need to 'be more serious' or 'take themselves seriously' in order to gain validation from a wider audience. The right market for ATEEZ will respect and value ATEEZ for what they have to put out there.

I get your point that following up to Coachella with this title track can feel like the wrong decision. However from a creative standpoint it still makes sense when you look at their discography, and they tend to plan these very long in advance. And they'll still be performing their harder-hitting songs so anyone that got interested in them from the Coachella performance will have plenty material to feed on. I definitely recommend checking their Killing Voice video though, that came out last week. This should not disappoint :)

ATEEZ is always trying new things and that's what makes them amazing. They are not afraid to make music and M/Vs that fun and that they know will make people laugh and have fun. Wow.... You are the only reactor I've seen that didn't like this video. And it seems like you don't really know Ateez and the way they do things. Hongjoong has said many times that they don't follow the trends, they don't make music for popularity, they don't care what anyone thinks of them. Ateez will always do their own thing, no matter what. And honestly, the playful, goofy tone of the MV fits Ateez. These boys are full time comedians, and they loved this MV. If you watch Bouncy, then Crazy Form, then this, you can see the tone shifting away from the more serious tone of Guerrilla and Halazia. Give it a chance and have fun. Actual Atinys love this song and album.

I don't agree. This is exactly the type of vibe a song needs for international and specifically american appeal after Coachella. We live in the era of "easy listening" songs, things need to be simple and catchy preferably with a lot of English. No non-kpop fan in the west will get interested in typical K-pop anthems in their Spotify recommendations, no radio station will play them. This song is exactly what is needed to cross the bridge into the regular American mainstream and that has been noticed by a lot of professionals already. It's funny, catchy and still very much "ateez", they have been releasing more ambitious projects for 5 years and it didn't attract many people beyond the K-pop spheres, it's time for a change. Even BTS had to do that to grow bigger.

Exactly what u thought when he said it was not expected after coachella like why???? Music evolves, we all evolve, our taste evolves. If we keep on listening to same K-pop anthems with always noisy chorus( no hate to other artists if you think), then we will no longer be enjoying other music and the sane ones as well after sometime days.. If new songs does not meet the level of previous ones, doesn't mean it's not if anyone's taste. Some people also like this type of calm still cool music.... I was so pissed at this guy why ain't ya thinking out of the box sometimes for positive explanation??

As a long time ateez fan, I love that ateez follows its own story and doesn't adapt. This is what makes every ateez comeback perfect, of course not every song is for everyone, but ateez always has something for everyone. Even if you only really feel some songs after listening to them two or three times. I love that ateez creates their own timeline and doesn't adapt to the current one. Especially in a time like today where many don't have the attention span of 15 seconds. ateez proves that they can grab you with their storyline. There are so many new kpop groups coming up and there are already sooo many, it's not easy to show something completely new that has never been seen before and that everyone likes. And ateez simply goes one better with all their live performances. Ateez is for me one of the few groups where I say I like every song and could see them live 20 times and still not have had enough. There are so many artists that only have one or 2 songs that I listen to. That's not because they're bad, of course, they've just gone down a musical path that doesn't resonate with me, whereas others have knocked my socks off. Golden hour as a whole comeback is still a gift to us atinys. Every member has their golden moment, which is not always easy with 8 members. I'm already looking forward to the tour and to seeing them in Europe soon. PS ateez is one of the groups I absolutely have to see in Japan to hear all the Japanese songs live. Of course, it's still okay that you expected something else. Ateez definitely deserves another chance, just like everyone else. I, for example, absolutely love Hush Hush more than Work. And the b sides are also worth a look.

I really appreciate your honesty specially at this time when many reactors are mostly "over" reacting and it doesn't feel genuine anymore... I respect your opinion too cuz we all have our own taste after all... but, in "my" opinion.. "Work" is a song that is so easy to listen to! Honestly, I usually need time for a song to grow on me so I could like it, but surprisingly, that didn't happen with ATEEZ !! Almost all of their songs were a hit to me from the first listen ! Some songs like Guerrilla needed time for me to digest and I liked the song more & more once I saw ATEEZ performing it in promotion times and music shows. Nevertheless, Work just took my heart from the first listen! It was so much fun and just brought me pure joy! The lyrics were specially relatable lol.. fighting against myself to actually go to work while hyping with ATEEZ.. ngl I NEEDED THIS SONG ! As for the music video, with all respect but I actually LOVED IT :') ! All these elements are so clever and DIFFERENT ! Nothing in that music video felt over consumed but they were actually new and fun! I would highly applaud for the geniuses who actually came up with the ideas of this video! It was very well filmed! And speaking of global market, ATEEZ already reached the global market :') ! Some people are just late in discovering them and we will always welcome new ATINY & casual listeners to join the ship and tag along~ ATEEZ's global market is "growing" in the most organic way~ and yes they will keep growing

The thing about ATEEZ…they love to have fun. And they are lowkey calling out the industry and calling out the haters in this if you pay close attention to the lyrics. Also the lore has morphed. They are not in the dark world that suppresses emotion anymore. So they’re having fun. They do them. Also…so many Latin American’s are loving this song and this album. I hope you do read your video's comments but I think you have to separate this comeback from the Coachella image they have because this comeback was written and planned even before (and during the 2 week) Coachella's performance happened. And like many comments down here has been saying, they just started a new concept/lore series, so they are building things up again so you don't have to feel so disappointed that early. Hip hop is not a genre they have tried extensively before, and WORK is actually their first try at the genre. Not every song a boy group released can please everyone and your reaction is the proof of it. Controversially to what you believed, its actually a very easy song for a lot of people to follow and like due to the beat, the rhythm and melody. For me personally I don't feel it overtakes most of their previous releases by that much either (though statistics showed people like it more than Halazia, which is surprising), but i will take a more midground neutral pov than what your disapproval had though, because I know what you didn't really like about it, but at the same time, I feel its also not a genre you are not so in touch with, hence the reaction. Otherwise, because you haven't really been following ATEEZ's music discography that closely, as a fan i can say they are trying a lot of new things with WORK that you did not really notice. If you have, you would have known that Jongho, the guy with the high register in a lot of ATEEZ songs you have reacted to, had a low register part for a very rare moment in their title song this time when he usually sings in high register for a lot of their title songs. The boys are trying out new things even after a success they could have possibly built on. I find it very brave for the producers behind this boy group to be delving into a different genre in the middle of a music festival, despite knowing that it might not hit it off well after Coachella because people like you will be expecting an extension and escalation of the music style of the songs they sang in that festival. But music festivals are not their endpoint, they do not have their dreams achieved and then stop there and continue making the same sound afterwards, Hongjoong their captain say they are greedy to try for even more different things and achieve higher goals so i think you really have to consider this from the standpoint that ATEEZ have not achieved their apex point of success yet.

The ironic thing is he loved Permission to Dance when that was very heavily modulated throughout and also very generic and not a good display of their talent. But I suppose all is forgiven with BTS when they try new things for western appeal. But Ateez should just stick to one style?

If PTD is his style then he definitely shouldn’t be listening to ATEEZ or any BTS self produced music for that matter 😂 PTD was 100% an attempt to gain western validation and if this is what this guy is hoping for, ATEEZ is definitely the wrong group. BTS has so many better songs imo but seeing that some people have this guys taste in music helps me understand why they choose to put out some of their English songs. I still prefer their Korean music though.

First of all, this video and song was meant to just have fun. Not everything has to be serious all the time. It may not be your cup of tea, but you were enjoying it, you were just afraid to say it. Everyone of their songs are different based on their storyline. You just discovered them, so you have a lot to learn about them. ATEEZ works so hard 24/7 and they do music they like, they don't give a flip what others think other than Atinys. We love our boys and are so happy they are having fun. #2 on billboards, so it is a hit. We know they are cool and amazing and we love them. So maybe learn more about them, before you find fault. Also, the songs are in Korean, English, and Spanish. They ruled Coachella and they rule the world. They have gone global and will continue to grow. You are the only person who hasn't liked it, so its a you thing, not us.

Ateez hits different... period. They have one of the most intense lore's of any K-pop group and this comeback follows suit. They are also not afraid to be their silly selves, be ridiculous sometimes and be UNIQUE. That is their killing point. Ateez isn't meant to be to cookie cutter K-pop group. They are genius. Between Eden, Edenary, Maddox, Hongjoong, and ALL the members, they are freakin amazing and while this song or this comeback isn't for everyone, Atiny's get it and in another few months, they will comeback AGAIN with something that will kick ass and knock the socks off everyone listening. It's just how they do.

@@bigmagngI agree! And not every K-pop idol is hyper focused on Western validation. This song has a Latin vibe and since Latin Americans exist I don’t see why he so disappointed that it’s not for his taste specifically. White Americans aren’t the only demographic in the US. Besides their Latin American tour did really well last year so it’s nice seeing them include more Latin inspired music in their discography. ATEEZ is for everyone not just the US.

I will say before you decide what is a wrong move for them. Do your research on the group and even see how they even specific members are producers themselves. Learn about the group and who they are. Its not about what you or others think will "make them global" they are already making it. What you see is just a few videos. I appreciate your honesty but they have been making huge success as they are and for who they are and they have evolved and that may scare a lot of people but they also know what works for them. 💜 Yes we want the world for them.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, so I won't ever say that your opinion is wrong, Justin. I respect you as a vocal instructor and a musician, being a singer myself. I've been watching your reaction videos for over 4 years, and somewhere along the way, your excitement about the art as a whole has lessened, and has become lost in this "clinical" critique that I've only ever seen in the head of vocal music when I was in college (and she was not a nice lady). I feel like it'd do you a lot of good to go back through your videos, aaaaaalllll the way back to the start, and try to figure out when things changed. Maybe it'd help you rekindle that passion and excitement. I know I miss the passion, and I think you might too. Now, the video being absolutely ridiculous and hilarious doesn't mean that the song is a "bad" or "wrong" choice. As others have said, ATEEZ has an extensive lore, and this song/video fits right into it. Also, the guys are just silly and ridiculous themselves.
