This breaks my heart. Had the pleasure of meeting JUSTIN TOWNES EARLE after he did a concert in Florida about three years ago after the show. He was followed into my favorite tavern by about twenty fans seeking autographs. He very kindly and patiently signed them all and then sidled up to the bar by my side to order a drink. I asked him what he did to earn that kind of attention and he all too modestly replied: "Oh, just sing some songs is all." OMG. What an understatement that was. I bought him a drink and we had a smoke while we drank and talked for nearly an hour and he was so interesting and down-to-earth. It was an honor getting to spend some time with such an immensely talented young man. Sometimes lying right on the cusp of greatness is the darkest abyss. RIP JTE.

Yup him and Steve had a weird relationship for a while there. We are like 4th cousins but Justin and I are the same age so we hung out the few times he would come back to Earles chapel for reunions . Im going to his birthday celebration in Nashville in January. It's weird I didn't know how good at writing he was. Such a sad deal. He is named after Townes van Zandt and Steve Earles son .

Came to Justin’s music via his old man, who I got to from Guy Clark and TVZ. Man, what a beautiful soul, and what a loss. I spent 15-25 wild and battled addiction, still do. His music gets to me deep down, and his songs and words are extraordinary. Justin belongs in the canon of great American songwriters with Guy, Townes and the best. RIP you beautiful man.

I can hear you breathe. I listen - Captivated by the sound in my ears of your voice; Raw and beautiful. With breaths soft and sweet, Like parma violets on the tongue. Breath you catch between lyrics that echo pain; And tells a story of a troubled soul - now at peace. EK❤️

And there he stood. Six foot Five, thin and covered in tattoos, swaying from side to side. Wearing a vintage suit and Buddy Holly's glasses. Beating that parlor guitar up, heaving his breath as he sneered every word, singing something about the Harlem River Blues. He was so much like a preacher, and so fucking cool. And he's a better writer than his father. You know, you forget he's his daddy's son when he sings about having his Mama's eyes. Love you, JT
