I think trauma can be stored in the body, but it’s not as simple as doing one workout and a bunch of trauma is released like some people make it seem. People act like trauma is a form of toxic matter that can be removed from the body, it’s not lol. Everyone’s body gets tense in different areas when you experience trauma. If you have PTSD or another trauma related issue, you might tense up these areas repeatedly throughout the day without realizing it. So, exercise will help you relax these parts and in a way, “release” the trauma.

25:03 yes - the carnivore diet works because you’re typically gonna be in a huge calorie deficit. My mom did carnivore and lost a bunch of weight and was convinced it was a miracle. It was because she was eating like 1200 calories a day as a 62 year old woman. Unsurprisingly, she couldn’t keep it up long term.

Agree so much with the first answer! I used to do a lot of KZbin workouts and the breaks were always too short for me. And pausing the workout made me feel guilty like I'm not able to keep up 😅 at times I picked a lower weight just so I wouldn't slow down.

about lower back pain - u have to train lower back just like any other muscle. it gets sore but the more u load it, the less pain u will have, at least after the workout. i think deadlifts are great for that. a lot of girls want to only work on glutes and hams but then whenever other muscles are involved, they will be folding and other muscle groups will become limiting factor which is a huge reason to train everything. about knees - if ur knees hurt after lifting or running due to new stress and heavy loads, then combination of exercises can definitely help (speaking from experience here). i had awful pain and worked through it during leg days but then started doing exercises i picked up from kneesovertoesguy here on youtube, in particular - backwards walking, tibialis raise, single leg touchdown, various modified squats. it really helped and my knees now can handle anything, i leg press 140kg with no issues. but u have to be consistent with routines and still do them sometimes after the pain is gone, not to mention importance of warming up before the lifting session. these exercises are not something crazy so it’s unlikely to cause any injury and definitely worth trying. i think it’s common with people who suddenly decided to do a big change and went from couch to the gym - muscle growth rate will outpace strengthening of tendons so while u squat double ur weight, knees are not able to catch up. by doing these exercises u mostly work on muscles around the knee which aren’t targeted as much in conventional lifting exercises, so it builds support system for ur knees to rely on. hope it helps someone

Hey Justina, I too have a dumb question for you! I'm going to preface this by saying that I'm not asking for a professional perspective, since I believe this is kind of outside your area of expertise (possibly? Not 100% sure!), just looking for more of a personal opinion. So, here I go! Why do you think people struggle with the concept of learning and implementing the basics of nutrition and exercise, * before * going for more advanced practices? Starting to get just a little bit tired of hearing people talk about counting macros (protein specifically) when they 1) are not counting calories but have a weight loss goal; 2) do not have a consistent fitness routine. 🙃 Thank you for the great and LONG video! Always love hearing you talk and explain things for 30+ minutes! ❤️

I wonder if that last question was effectively that kind of mocking "eat right, exercise, die anyway" and like yeah... but the quality of your life until you die varies a lot, and there's a lot you can do to make it as best as possible. IDK, I've been thinking about that a lot as I watch family members in their 50s struggle with basic tasks like walking up steps (not flights of stairs... one or two steps), react abruptly to avoid walking into someone/thing they didn't see, or carry more than one bag of groceries.

@@Laf631 Actually, I am the question and, no, it was not mocking at all. It was just wondering what kinds of “prepare-able” things we might mentally ready ourselves for as we near the end of our lives… Cardio & resistance training take care of many big obvious ones and, yes obviously no one lives forever, but having watched older loved ones suffer from some avoidable things, although death doesn’t scare me, it got me thinking about what the “ideal end” might look like (barring any unfortunate surprises). Is it likely painful? etc.

Can you expand a bit more on the high heart rate during lifting? When I do a heavy set of squats (or usually compound lifts) my hr can go up to 150bpm at the end of it. Is that too high, should I lower the intensity or improve my cardio?
@JustinaErcole
@JustinaErcole 2 ай бұрын
As long as you're resting between sets, that HR is totally fine :)

Can I ask a dumb question too, even if I don't have an Instagram account? Does weightlifting count as zone 2 cardio if my heart rate stays in that zone during rest?

I have always just been a cardio for fun kinda girl, playing football, netball, going for hikes etc. Now trying to get stronger, for a job. it’s a lot to think about, I don’t have the money for a personal trainer. It’s frying my brain. X

Yessss barbell hip thrusts are so overrated with all the setup you have to do, i think many women also ego lift on hip thrusts because you look cool lifting hundreds of pounds. I now only use machine hip thrust and I save so much time lol

Sadly being healthy doesn’t always equal a long life. My mom was very healthy yet died at 69 of Lung cancer also never smoked. The Drs would say she’s the healthiest dying person they’ve ever seen. My dad is much older he also eats healthy and keeps busy and you’d never guess he was 85.

I've seen the 30 minute time window for protein after exercise debunked by dieticians. Might be worth revising that suggestion or making a researched video on this
@JustinaErcole

Hey! I didn’t suggest it for general population. But you’re right that the anabolic window has been mostly disproven. I said you may need to get more specific if you’re an athlete or competitor.
