I canoe and backpack with a Lab retriever much like you do with Saku, Last week there was an article in the Minneapolis Star-Tribune about a group canoeing in the BWCA area of northern Minnesota with a mixed breed Lab. Apparently the dog went on a free lance ramble on a portage and went missing for 29 days, Fortunately the animal wandered into a resort area located approximately 30 straight line miles from his last known location. FWIW..I hang a cow bell from my dog's collar which is also "hunter orange" color when we are tripping. Tough to keep close track of the dog with a canoe on your shoulders and bushwacking a trail. Just a thought for Saku's safety and your peace of mind.

Watching Saku and your interactions and conversations with him are an integral half to your expeditions. A lot of cuts feature him, you'll replace those with lonely albeit beautiful landscapes, he is a vehicle in telling your story. You make a great team, and Iit always makes me happy to think all he wants is to be is by your side and how lucky he is over dogs who never get to see much outside of their backyard or some even less. Don't be hasty making the decision in leaving him behind without considering what you are leaving behind. Love your videos.

No if I was lost and found north using compass I could then head back in the direction of where I know the vehicle is until I hit the woods road

@@JustinBarbournlexplorer That'll only work if you 've been taking bearings as you go. To me, if you know basically which direction you need to travel to safety, you're not lost, you just don't know where you are. Lost is when you don't know where anything is.

The Rock in May, nary a leaf in sight. Reminds me of a my first bike trip across the island. All the month of May, some sleet, some sunshine, some rain, and some snow. Wasn't until I left Newfoundland at the end of May and the ferry from Placentia came into North Sydney that I saw green and realized it was already spring in the rest of the world.
