I saw her message before the performance and was very sad to see this after going to an Ingrid concert with my daughter in Manchester back in 2023. She was excellent at the Manchester gig with music (no autotune) that's far better than other artists in her genre. I hope everything is alright for her and that she gets back on her feet. Your insight Justin at the end of imposter syndrome is interesting to read, and nice that you showed compassion towards an artist who had a bad day

It's that vocal affectation that so many put on for talent show auditions that seems to be the issue. She's probably so used to not using her "non-famous" voice, and instead using the vocal affectation that's gained her popularity, that when she has to really belt it's just not there.

She usually (always?) sings in her head voice, which is the opposite of belting. Didn’t they do a sound check and a practice run? She has a soft, breathy voice. This song wouldn’t be in her wheelhouse if she was sober.

This probably. She doesn't sound like a very technical singer and seems to rely a lot on said affectations, from what her original music suggests, and it looks like she bit much more than she could chew. In fairness, quite a few tricky intervals in SSB, and if her monitoring wasn't good and she could hear too much of the echo wash from the stadium, that might have not helped either. Also probably wasn't too prepared/rehearsed, else she would probably have been able to just shut off all exterior noise completely and rely on muscle memory and inner voice.

@@nicdee316 I was in a band with a singer who could either sing great or sing terrible. It was bizzare how much he knew nothing about music theory at all. Zero. Sad thing is 20 years in I've had to learn it and coulda fixed so many issues if I knew back then what I know now. I saw an app the other day and it asks you to sing in different levels of loudness. It works out where u sing at, then only shows u songs in your vocal range. Neat idea for practice and learning where u can and cant go.

The public is always unforgiving for those who fail, regardless of the reason. They would all feel terrible if others trashed their own individual failures, but they gleefully dish it to others. That girl wasn't taking the piss out of it, she was drunk and clearly had an alcohol problem if she had to check herself into rehab. There's just a lack of empathy in general in the service of mockery and humiliation.

@@JohnFoley-cm8lm Being honest with anyone about their addiction and the need to get help, or that they should improve at something, is not the same as publicly trashing and humiliating them and making them the butt of a collective cruel joke. There's a difference. It's a lack of empathy for whatever someone is going through, and a resistance to letting people make a mistake without utterly tearing them down for it and clamoring for their end. I never heard of this woman before this, but she didn't k-ll someone, she just flubbed a performance. Publicly failing is humiliation enough for anyone, people don't need to actively make it worse. At the end of the day, what goes around comes around, and those who willingly participate in humiliation of someone who isn't a pos will at some point experience what the person they targeted felt.

I once did a gig at a Freemason's lodge. They asked for the national anthem before the banquet and so I started playing the Spunk Spangled Banner solo, a la Jimi Hendrix version. Two bars in a voice boomed out, "Wrong one." Well I was in Bradford, northern England at the time. They were not amused, but it was well worth it.😊

For the record, Carl Lewis was an Olympic track and field athlete. He won nine gold medals. Not a professional singer. Can't be judged the same way. I agree that Fergie gets unnecessary hate, as if she sang badly. The problem is that she seemed to make the 'national' anthem about herself rather than the simple ritual that it was.

She could release an album called “Ingrid goes to War” - a compilation of various anthems, yowled with gusto. I reckon the stadium acoustics played a role too… the way sound bounces around the stadium on a delayed kind of echo… it got worse the louder she got… I wondered if she was getting pulled off the note because she was hearing her own voice coming back singing other notes

Being drunk doesn’t make you tone deaf, it’s different if she couldn’t hear herself and was having in ear problems but that wasn’t the case she just has awful pitch control. Thats a song some just shouldn’t sing and she’s one of them
