ursafan40 The sport is called hurling. The stick is called a hurley. You’re right that calling it a “hurley stick” isn’t quite right. That’s kinda like saying a “baseball bat stick”. You could say the guitar is made from a “hurley” though.

The Hillsboro and Seebert area. No one around but the mountains. Lord your music would move the mountains. I’m thankful I was introduced to such talent. May have to buy the horse guitar. I have been a hobby woodworker for about 40yrs and am amazed at some of the guitars you get and what they are made of. Cigar boxes and Hurley sticks. Who would have thought. And they play nice. A friend is a studio musician and has been in demand for years. He has a collection but they are mostly Gibsons and Les Pauls. I think there is a Strat in there somewhere but he plays them all when he does gigs. Fascinating. I always enjoy talent in all aspects. I have thought of making one for years but this is amazing.

I keep coming back to this video, which was one of the first videos I saw when I "discovered" Justin entirely by accident. I love seeing L.A. behind him, as he's sitting there on the patio. I spent a lot of years in that town and I often miss those days of hanging out with other creatives. Now, as for the guitar, this is one of those guitars that started me getting interested in electric guitars, in addition to acoustics. Aside from the awesome look of it, with the horse head and all that (which is a running theme of mine, having been a rider my whole life until I became disabled) this guitar has a much more "full" sound than I would have anticipated, if I had just seen it standing in the music corner of my home. It is a real surprise. Of course, Justin could turn almost anything into an instrument and have it sound good, his talent is so extreme. It SOUNDS effortless, the way he plays it, but even I, a complete rank amateur, can clearly see the work that has gone into his career. I have nothing but respect for this young man, and I suspect that, before long, his star is going to hit its zenith.

I had an old R & B guitar player living next door until he passed away, who I had that kind of friendship with for year's. Hey Justin.. Just wanna say I love your rings, your bracelet, your hat, your boots, and your hair... Above all that, I wanna talk about the roots in that beautiful guitar... The Irish folks, have got strong Celtic roots, wich relate to Mother Nature and all the animals, just like the native Americans... You can co-relate that in the feathers, the horse’s head, and the beautiful materials used in the instrument... Big hug, and top respect!!

You wouldn't use a Hurley with that grain for playing hurling. Also , for the game they are made out of ash. For those that don't know about hurling I suggest you watch some on KZbin. But it's great to see a guitar made out of a Hurley. Hurling as a sport is thousands of years old. It's also the fastest ball game in the world

"Clash of the ash", as we say in Scotland. (That's shinty, but you probably couldn't make a guitar out of one of those.)

Aidan Quinlan : My father made hurley sticks from young ash trees he harvested. He would find them in the wild country on East Limerick Tipperary border as he was out hunting for pheasant, grouse, rabbit, duck. Except for having them rough cut on the bandsaw at the local sawmill, he did it all with hand-tools. I don’t think he ever owned a power tool. All gone now, but for the memory.

@@joenavanodo3780 That's when it was done properly. Not much in the way of sport equipment made by the player anymore.

Correct. Made an official sport in 1884 Everyone outside of Ireland describes it as a mix between Hockey, Rugby and Murder. Very accurate description

gotta tell you: you make make me feel sick. where the heck was I when God passed out all the talent? if I could even HOPE to do that I think I'd never sleep. heck, I'd settle for being able to MAKE a guitar that sounded that good. never even thought I'd be able to FIND a teacher! But I have ADHD, a sequencing learning disability, & had a dad who said, "if you come in with blisters on yr hands you know you earned yr dinner." and he sure didn't mean blisters from playing a quitar! 13 kids had to help feed the family. with kids of my own my job was to raise them. now @ 75 I'm too old to start . glad you had the opportunity kid. God bless.
