My first few tattoos I brought reference photos to my artist and he created something amazing with it. After the 3rd one I was just telling my artist what I want to do and he would create some thing for me. He usually gives me 3 options to pick from, and we modify the one I like the best and work off that. So far he never let me down and he killed my sleeve! I currently have another artist in the same shop designing a fall Japanese style leg sleeve. I can’t wait to start that one.

@@HomnixHD most likely for a fee, yes. But to be completely honest with you most artist do not like tattooing somebody else design. Justin spoke about that in some of his videos as well. It’s a known thing with Tattoo Artist they don’t like doing somebody’s design. They have some people specifically that designer tattoos that you can take the artist. You’re better off doing some research on your artist and have that artist design everything and tattoo you.

He's the artist/tattooer and he's ben doing it for a while so he knows what he's doing and you gotta trust your artist that they are going to do stellar job. I wish I saw this vid before I got my first sleeve a couple of years ago. I was looking for something like this. For my second sleeve so I’m glad I found this! I will have ideas in my head but I have a hard time imagining what the end result will look like. So when when my first sleeve was finished I came to the conclusion that I didn’t have enough main pieces in there for my taste. Lot of empty spaces were filled up with background. Well nothing to do about it anymore. Hopefully my second one will turn out more to my taste!

I just went to my artist and told him I want a Neo-traditional sleeve with a light coming out of the darkness theme. The only thing I asked him to incorporate was a lady head. I let him go from there. I wanted something straight from my artists brain. I went for my first session a couple months ago, and I don't think I could have come up with anything anywhere near as amazing as he did.

I am an artist but not a tattoo artist. So i am picky...i have what i want in my head and have done a rough sketch of what I would like. I am now doing a more detailed drawing with a paper the same size as my arm. Now i am not a tattoo artist so i am ok with a tattoo artist changing certain things to fit my arm but this way the style of it and where most of it will be placed over all will be in my power.
@yourwillieshop9843 жыл бұрын
I used 3D paint that came on my computer to create a sleeve. It has a feature called magic select. You put the box around your desired part just like cropping and it cuts around what it thinks you are trying to get. Then there is add and remove buttons in case it got too much or not enough of what you want. Once you have it cut out you can copy it and move it over on top of a picture of your arm. Once there you can tilt and resize until it looks right. Then rinse and repeat with all the elements until you have your sleeve. You could do this with the original paint program but you would have to manually cut it out and copy/paste it to the arm.

I'm going to get kind of a "forest sleeve" in colour on my right arm. I've gotten a beautiful fern leaf four days ago & absolutely in love with it. Some Lord of the Rings elements might also go in there, and/or some animals. I have so many ideas and not that much space.. so I'm gonna have to give it a really good think over 😂 I prefer to look up reference material for style, subject and layout inspiration, and then make my own drawings. I'll draw the basic shape of an arm and "fill it in" with designs of plants etc. So far this has worked pretty well.. but I would like to get a photoshop program _or_ print things out the way you did - mostly to be able to design easily around the whole arm, and not just one side of it ;)

im in the early stages of planning a sleeve, but mine is more like several different tattoos all over my arm instead of a single theme if that makes sense. i just dont know if it would look good or not. i already have a couple existing tattoos on the arm that i want to sleeve, so basically what im doing is adding like 6+ different individual tattoos that have nothing to do with each other and hoping that somehow they can be blended together with each other and my existing ones to look good in the end. i want it to blend together (physically not style or theme wise) not just look like different tattoos all over my arm. for example i have a flag on my shoulder and a heartagram on inside upper forearm and i want a realistic panda possibly on my bicep and my truck and car facing one another on outer forearm. along with an interpretation of Moirai (Greek Mythology) that will possibly wrap around my wrist. there are a few other individual designs that i want to add but my point is that none of these individual tattoos create a theme or are cohesive in any way and im just unsure if what i have in my head can become a cohesive blended sleeve.

Thats a badass idea bro im about to see about this tomorrow. I’ve wanted a sleeve for almost 2 and a half years now and now im starting to put things together. I was consistently comparing familiar pieces together and fitting things with my imagination as well as taking out and adding little details about the piece that makes that piece pf that tattoo stand out just a bit more. Like a smoke look rather than a paint brush look for background. I have 4 major pieces but have around 25 screenshots of other tattoos haha all those screenshots are for the smaller details that I’m taking from that art and apply it to mine. Im STRUGGLING with fill in I didn’t realize how much focus on the small things this took but glad I’m doing it now than realizing I don’t really like that big piece of my sleeve when it’s done. But thanks for the printed pics idea man that solid!

Post-Covid, a lot of Tattoo shops around me won't show you the tattoo until the day you come in. They won't email you a copy or anything. This helps protect an artist's time, by making sure you actually come in to see the work. It helps weed out the wannabes and the back outers.

Now if you have, for example, only 3 tattoos but they are of considerable size but there are gaps or they are spaced out to where a lot of bare skin is showing then I would only consider it partial or incomplete sleeve. Fill in those spaces/gaps to "connect them" for full coverage. You can search patchwork sleeves and see examples of fillers others use to fill in the gaps of their individual tattoos.

Don't artists get upset when you use other people's art?

Yes when you use another tattoo. These are all references and even if you bring a tattoo that you like to your artist that’s totally cool... just make sure it’s used as a reference aswlll letting them know what you like from that tattoo of someone else’s and to draw inspiration from it
