It's a sand perch NOT squirrelfish. Squirrelfish are in much deeper water (500+ ft) and look totally different

thank you for this video. I am currently living in San Diego for the past 20 years and I have plans to move to FL, Tampa in particular. KZbin is great for researching what species of fish I will be targeting soon. Its a learning experience to fish in a new area for sure! I've been fishing my entire life, 2-4 times a week. I've got San Diego pretty dialed in for both fresh and salt water. I hear Florida is the "fishing capitol of the world". I'm excited to be apart of the FL fishing community!

That first fish you got....I fished the Miss Cape Canaveral headboat back in the 80's every weekend and we caught them and called them Charlie Browns. Have no idea why, but that's what they called them on that boat back in the day. Squirrel fish to us were an all red large eyed small snapper looking thing, body like a beeliner but with larger eyes. Times change, fish names change. Ha!

It's a sand perch NOT squirrelfish. That's a completely different species found in deep water

I grew up fishing in Tampa, there’s definitely some fish to be caught there. Living in Germany now, the fishing here is obviously much different

That first fish is what we call a squirrel fish. Great if you keep em for dead bait. Keep them whole, cut the sides to fan them out and hold on for some big groupers

That first fish was a squirrel fish. Great bait for anything big and the preferred bait of tarpon guides in Boca Grande Pass.

It's a sand perch. Squirrelfish are a deep water species. You'd have to be fishing 500ft or deeper to catch one

Did you go to Delcos for cheesesteaks? They’re the best. A Dunedin favorite and I know Brent likes to fish that area. We’re always fishing the same spots.

Y’all should’ve called me. I would’ve met you out there. Two of my favorite in my backyard. Thanks for visiting my area. I went out yesterday and using live shrimp and had a ball with a buddy from high school. Look him up Lowe Tide Fishing charters. He will put you on some fish in this area.

Catching Cubera inshore on bridges and docks on the West coast especially in SWFL is common. Have caught numerous keepers on inshore docks

People say that first fish you caught is actually great eating. You guys head north to Bayport and you can catch keeper size grouper in your Gheenoe.

That’s a sand perch. Some people call mojarra sand perch so it can be confusing.
