Pre Order the Rooted Life (by 2pm EST Sunday) and Get ALL the Start Smart BONUSES:
bit.ly/RootedL...
Start Outside Your Door. Yes, your physical door. But ALSO, the door of your heart.
Interesting enough this whole idea of starting at your door is a perfect solution for those raring to go, but also for those who are overwhelmed and burnt out like me.
If you’re overwhelmed, then re-examine what you’re growing. Tastes change and so should your growing plans. Before Rebekah got on the phone with the hatchery I asked her, "Are you still into eating duck?" To which she replied, "yes." What about Goose? Do you still want to do the Christmas Goose?" This time we both concurred, "not really." So, we let it go. What was once fun and special isn’t so much anymore, so we said good bye. We concluded that we’d do a Boston Butt instead and we both got really excited about that. Geese add some logistics and chores, so I just wanted to make sure we still actually want it.

Justin, I’ve followed you long enough to know what you might say to this. I hope you hear me out. Maybe this one time Lily can keep the lamb. The nature of girls is to nurture and your sweet girl honors her father and his wishes. I would be willing to buy another book to help offset the cost of a lamb…I’ve bought 2 from you. She is such a testament to the love and nurturing you & Rebekah give to your kids. Thank you for teaching & encouraging us to keep trying, learning, & growing. God bless you all.

Young men are great inventors with incredible imaginations and skills. Lily is great at trying anything first before giving up on animals. She nurtured a chicken, also, at one time. Gideon is growing so much and learning to do a lot of new things to help. Cannot believe Henry is close to one year old. Welcome back!!! 🐾🐕🐶🐄😸

I love that you wear Henry so much! If his weight is bothering your back at all, you could do some adjustments to get him a little higher on your back. Generally the higher they are, the more comfortable it is to wear them. Again, it really warms my heart to see you wear him so much! It's such a secure place for little ones to be, both physically but also emotionally. Thank you for promoting / normalizing babywearing!

Try Muscovy duck for Christmas dinner. We smoked ours, wrapped in bacon. The meat is more like beef than duck, and they are mostly breast and small legs, so harvest 2 for every 1 duck. They can be raised with your ducks and harvested exactly the same or skinned. They are leaner than ducks, so we skinned ours, hence the wrapping in bacon because I hate the plucking part. They can fly, so handle them and kinda make them pets so you can catch them easily. We have some that are permanent pets, acting more like curious dogs than ducks. They easily multiply on their own. We keep ours with the chickens with no issues. 1 drake to every 5 -7 Muscovy hens is our preferred ratio. They are seasonal layers and handle cold wet weather with ease.

I think some of the best things to look at if you are feeling overwhelmed: are you organized, or always running around looking for things and do you a a set routine, or just running around putting out fires? Take a good look at your space and is it organized. That's sort of like you said, where "thing" are can make a big difference.

Dad was not impressed because we removed the bar and chain from his chainsaw and used it for a power plant. Ran great but we had to find another old engine to run it. Off an old Lawnboy mower 2 stroke so smoked some.

We love staying out of the grocery store because we have what we need in out pantry. Good luck on moving forward! Liz

Yeah my dad built a go-kart he was a welder, he put a lawn mower engine on it. That thing with nearly fly out from under you. I personally got one summer out of it because my legs became too long. You know how life is nothing stays the same. We had this oh yeah I know where you live you got that big circle in your side yard. I don't think my dad thought that through. But he gave it away to this family that were professors in college but still evidently the people in the neighborhood that live close didn't think they could afford all those those kids, so I guess everybody got in a habit of giving things to them. Like our beautiful red go-kart we never seen again, they also had a habit of coming to our house and going into the basement yes, that went my beautiful orange bike. My uncle saw it on the side of the road but for some stupid reason he thought I was in the field why would I be in a field there's a fence there plus you know grass yeah grass and fines on the fence so there was no passing through nor do I trust pass I am of the legal age that I could not pass it off like oh me. So I got the phone call and went up and of course it's going to cost you know you got another blanketed blank seats. That was never replaced. I never asked them to because they get another boy back we're in the world in my parents think I like boys things I'm a girl always like girl things. I just didn't know how to play with them because I was raised as a tomboy great wide difference. I would ride my sisters when she'd let me cuz she had the regular style for a girl it was so much fun. I was afraid at that 10 speed but I rode it.

Omgoodness I remember my boys building their first Go Cart... Thankfully, we lived on a farm and that go cart was used by all of us to bring the wagon full of feed & stuff to the barn which wasn't in my front yard. I loved that thing after I got over the fear! Their first dirt bikes, are whole other story and I'm STILL 40yrs later not over it! 🥴
