Final update: this little reel is the little engine that could kzbin.infoUgkxSlytCJqozTF7EbdP4LWP-HUXf9WRDJ0e . It performed flawlessly and was easy to adjust drag in the moment while I was battling a 35lb bat ray behemoth. Mind you, this reel is spooled with only 25 lb braid and 25 mono topshot. It's paired with the kastking telescopic heavy power rod and the two work well together. This has now earned my respect and confidence when traveling and fishing. If you have ever hooked into large rays and sharks, you know they pull extremely hard and can run forever! This thing clamped down on the fish and was easy to adjust during the fight. It has a nice decently fast retrieve as well. Twice the fish went on mad runs and I was able to gain back line quickly to avoid spooling.

I too am a Shimano dude and have been right after my go with the old Ryobis 40 yrs ago. I bought 2 Tatula 300's for glide/big swimbaiting and they work real well. One is on a MB "Destroyer Black Jack" and the other on a MB "Destroyer Tequila Baccarac". They do a good job though there is better to be had. Good fishin bro!

I absolutely LOVED the Tatula. It is so comfortable to fish with, fits in my hands comfortably and feels amazing. The ONLY complaint I have about Daiwa is the brake dial. The way I hold my reel, when I work my bait or snap my rod, it turns the brakes up. I don't always notice it, but my next cast is a whole lot shorter. Like i said, that is my only complaint.

One thing I've noticed with Shimano, and Diawa bait casters; The Diawa's don't last, they tend to have more issues in my experience over time. I have numerous 5+ year old Shimano's that get cleaned/greased yearly and have had zero issues. I don't have a single Diawa that didn't have some sort of broken or failed part internal or external after 2 or 3 years of service. However, Diawa Fuego Spinning reels are my go to for saltwater light tackle, the magseal technology really works and keeps nasty salt water out of the internals.

I have used both Shimano and Diawa for 40 years. Love the both. My oldest reel is a Diawa PS10. Still fishing strong. It outlasted my Shimano Bantam 100 and 1000 reels but not due to its quality…I used the Shimano reels 100 times more than the Diawa. I do not have fancy brakes and do not have backlash issues.

That TWS system on Daiwa was a total gamachanger for me, because I only use super thin braid and jigheads. DC Shimanos also good, but TWS got less backlashes for me on windy conditions. Comparing those to other reels is not even fair game. Personal preference tho

Generally Daiwa reels are known for casting really far with minimal effort, lazy lobs or gentle flicks will get really impressive distance with minimal effort. You need to try an SV for lighter stuff. Easiest casting reels on the market. It will become your new fluke reel for sure. SV is super free casting and extremely controlled braking, and they skip insanely well, it’s almost impossible to backlash

i have been a Shimano guy forever i saw the T wing daiwa came out with they claimed it casted farther and smoother having never liked the small hole line guide of Shimano and most another's .i went and bought a TATULA SV TW 103 XS 8.1:1 I put it on a 7'6 Duckett Silverado 30 pd braid i have flipped with it frogged and a few more. The set up has not let me down .i was so impressed i bought another Tatula 150 p in 5.4:1 with 17 pd Fluorocarbon to be my spinnerbait reel with a alx rod Hammer hvy 7'0 it is the rod i do most of the work with. i still use all my Shimano's but the T wing and the smooth of the Tatula won me over. Great reel next will be the Tatula SV TW 70 in 6.3:1 or a Tatula Elite Pitch/Flip in 7.1:1 smooth buttery, back lashes are a thing of the past great casting very compact size . well worth the money. P.S i also have lews ,kastking, and ardent reels so far Tatula i feel is a better reel.

Strange coincidence. I'm also a ride-or-die Shimano guy, and decided to try Daiwa for the first time a few months ago with a bunch of birthday gift cards. I happened to pick exactly the same reel you did (CT100). I used it for the last six weeks or so of the tournament season. I was really impressed especially for the money. It makes me curious to try out some of their more expensive offerings. It really does hold it's own vs. the Shimanos in the same price range. Do I love Shimano any less? no. But I get now why my Daiwa-luvin buddies are so hot on Daiwa.

Get the Tatula SV TW. No spider graphics, a bit bigger profile, you rarely need it, but more accessible tension knob. The Tatula SV has the best braking for the money. No traditional setting of the spool tension. Just set it with a little play in the spool, set your braking and give it a fling. Start high and work lower. You don't even have to thumb this spool in the air or when the lure hits the water.

Maybe it's just me. I have a Diawa Zillion, a few 2020 Tatula SV T103's along with the new Shimano Curado MGL 150 and Scorpion MGL 150. They are all great reels but the Diawa's have a nasty habit. When using spinnerbaits and going for distance, I think I have them dialed in for no backlash. I'm tooling along just fine but with the Diawas, if I forget and overpower the cast, they will blow up in the very beginning of the cast. If I make adjustments to prevent it, I lose distance. I haven't had that problem with those 2 Shimanos. But for skipping, etc, the Diawas are great

I currently own several tatula ct reels. They cast decent, but they definitely don't hold up as well as Shimano in the same grade, (curado k). If you tie a long leader or splice your line the knot will catch in the level wind. Spools are on the smaller side.

Exactly. Both great. I have 4 metaniums, 4 zillions, and several Tatulas 100, 200, and a 300. I’m probably more of a Diawa fan but I enjoy all of them.

I have Shimano's, Diawa's, Abu-Garcia's, 13-Fishing, Lews, Quantum, and Bass Pro Shop reels. My least favorite is Quantum and Lews. Most companies make a decent reel if you are willing to pay the price. I have learned upgrading bearings will make a big difference. Currently, Shimano and 13-Fishing are my preference based on cost.

“This reel is on the cheaper side” meanwhile that more on the reel than I ever spent on a combo. Been crushing off the lewes and Zebco combos

I have a t wing my palm rubs the mag spool control on the left side and usually turns down the magnet without me noticing till I back lash into the wind or something gonna glue th thing on half way and forget it ....I like Shimano better but the Di is more comfortable for all day casting

I have 2 of those reels and love them! The only criticism is that after you cast when putting it back in your left hand, I sometimes twist that brake knob, but it’s no big deal, they cast very good on any brake setting

Most people use the wrong handed reel to where they have to switch hands hundreds of times a day. If you hold the rod with your right hand, get a left handed reel. If you hold the rod with your left hand, get a right handed reel. Thank me later😁.

@@thenigga3374 I do hold the rod with my left hand and have right handed reels? How in the world do you think people hold the rod with their left hand and also reel left handed? My point is on the casting

If you like the tatula, but want a slightly more premium feel. Take a look at a zillion. I’m the same way. And they don’t have the tatula spider graphic.

One way to set it is to unlock it for casting and let the weight your fishing drop to the ground and have it stop once it hits the ground then adjust it from their 🙄 rather than just turn the brake to any setting

Hey, so quick tip, I've found the Tatula SV TWs on sale the last week for $140, as i mentioned, i bought 3 😂. Waiting for the pther two to get here. The 8,7 & 6 ratios. Shimanos are my loves, but the SV TW are color coded and it made me melt 🫠.

Daiwa and shimano are easily the best reels on the market and as much as people may want to believe otherwise it’s the facts. Many good companies out there but those 2 are just above it

Zillion SV TW in your preferred gear ratio for whatever style you want. Personally I’ve never caught as many bass as my zillion sv tw setup for Texas rigged worms paddle tail grubs and jigs man I love that reel . My wrist and arm never get tired all day casts . The Steez is a wicked pissa too but I can’t justify the price and performance over the Zillion which I have 3 different ones and a Tatula , Of course goes without saying Dobyns Rods / Shimano Exprides and Metainium Dc reels my all time mix and match with Daiwas hands down my favorite tackle . Also I will be honest and add the 13 Fishing Envy Black Gen1 worm rod for some reason is amazing I cannot let it go , caught more bass than strippers catch 1s with it . While not as sensitive as my Expride I can tell if I’m on bottom bumpin a stick or rock or log or just the slightest mouth just barely testing or picking up and moving the bait not just hard strikes .Anyways Daiwa baitcasters even the cheaper models are awesome.

Have you tried the Daiwa Tatula SV 103H reel? The SV spools is pretty crazy, you have to try pretty hard to make it backlash. I have one and really like it but I LOVE my Curado MGL 150's reels tho.
