I have the DX16 and after watching your review, I am convinced this DX18 will be my personal favorite version of Maul as well. I am literally blown away by this figure's presence - simply menacing with that outfit along with the robotic legs. I'm okay with it being a little light with the accessories with the level of detail and articulation Hot Toys gives you with the mechanical legs. That's the biggest selling point for me. I'm also relieved to learn the robes are "not" pleather. I've been reading/hearing some comments that he has too much pleather. So, glad to learn that is false.

Idrk if you'll end up seeing this, but I wanted to say that maul has always been my favorite character, and before I got into these figures and into collecting I saw this maul figure and suddenly I was obsessed. I started collecting a few months ago with mythos obi wan because I thought hed look wonderful with this figure here in the vid. A few figures/ months later I preordered maul and now, finally, he should be shipping any day. But another big aspect that got me so interested were YOUR review videos specifically. Whenever i want a figure I go and see if Justins got a review of it up on his channel and I see what you have to say about it. I'm by no means an avid collector. Hell my figures arent even on a proper display case, but I really feel like your insight on these figures has really helped me learn a lot and inspired me as a collector. But in short, thank you for all your videos and all the help that you give to people who are just starting. I genuinely appreciate it. Keep up the good work!!

16:00 Maul's second set of robot legs were the huge minotaur ones, but I thought those were goofy. He ended up getting them replaced by a witch that made them much closer to his normal legs.

Outstanding review, J. This is a must buy for me. I've never obsessed about a figure's legs, lol. It will go nicely next to my Phantom Menace Maul + Speeder Bike. I agree, hate the base. Also, the chair is um, fine...straight out of the movie but for the leader of Crimson Dawn, it is somewhat ordinary? Not a dealbreaker. Gonna enjoy doing crazy martial arts poses!

Thanks for the review Justin! Agree with you re the dx status for this fig. Doesnt seem to deserve that. Sure he has the magnetic head and the movable eyes but in terms of accessories the new Jango or Cody has more. Still, very cool fig. I'm glad I've got him PO'd. Relieved the outer robe isn't pleather. Like all your reviews, this was very nicely filmed. You get a really great shot of the figure/accessories, better than anyone else on KZbin.

That head sculpt really sells this figure. That’s 100% Ray Park. I guess the positive side to the plastic chair is that you don’t have to worry about it degrading over time, but a soft one would have been nice.

I think you sold me on the Solo Darth Maul. Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn are my favorite characters in the entire saga episodes 1-6 and The Clone Wars. And I already have the Clone Wars Maul, Shock Trooper and 501st preorder and paid off. You can't have to many Maul's.

Here’s an idea I have for hot toys. If they want to keep the pleather wrist covers on fine, but I have a solution. I agree the pleather wrists are horrible and shouldn’t be on the figure, I do think they make the gauntlets look a tad but better (if they haven’t already torn that is) and a simple solution is to have the pleather wrists without covering the pegs. Maybe make the pleather pieces around the edges of the wrist on the inside of the gauntlet, while having the peg not covered like they are on the figure. For me personally, I find it easier to heat up the hands with a hair dryer to make it so the peg inserts into the hand easily, and to pull the gauntlet down while carefully applying pressure and twisting the hands until they are onto the peg. Ever since I have done this the wrist covers and the pegs haven’t been an issue at all. Overall wonderful figure, it really has a great presence on the shelf, wether if he is in a dynamic pose with his saber or cloaked with his hood sitting down. For me, 9/10 figure, the accessories are lacking compared to other figures, but he didn’t do much in Solo so I think that’s fine, and the wrist covers are horrendous, but everything you said in the video was true. Fantastic sculpt, and a stunning piece. Love your channel, and keep up the great work. If you’ve read this far thank you for your time and have a nice day! 😀

I just got this figure, and it is amazing! I love it, but the only downside for me is the horrible gauntlet covers. Their already tearing on mine because I have to force the hands on because the wrist peg is covered so much, so when I push on it, the gauntlet covers tear. I know you can’t see them most the time, but it’s my own personal gripe with the figure.

It is very difficult for me at least to put the hands on the pegs, and I always have to force the hands on, and even when they are on they’re still loose. I’m a bit scared to attach the hands to the pegs without the horrid wrist covers because I had an experience where I took them off, and put the force push hand onto the peg. Then when I removed the hand the peg then broke and I had to replace it. If you have any tips for putting the hands onto the pegs I would love to know. Keep up with the great content!

Couple things about MaulI find it very difficult to get him to sit in his seat with his feet flat on the platform they seem to be floating and don't reach the stand or he ends up leading back too much and it doesn't look right. Maybe I just need to stretch the joints out some more but he's definitely an awesome figure. One little nitpicky thing about him is the hilt of a lightsaber is definitely way too small to use as a double-ended lightsaber. There's not a far away enough grip. But it still looks cool. No complaints just observations.

I fiddled around with him a little bit today when I got home from work and I got them perfect now one foot is nice and flat and I put the other foot kind of back a little bit in his toes of flat understand so one knees up a little bit and ones down a little bit and his back is nice and straight. When I move the mechanical legs around I try to do it right at the joint will the leg in mechanical leg are joined. Very happy with the way you looks now.
