Excellent work 👍🏼 I used to work on these engines daily at my last job. Removing those rocker assembly's is a pain in the butt.. cat actually make a tool .. part number 124-2946.It's used for lifting the rocker assembly's with one hand and holds all the arms in place. It cost like $300 AUD but I used it daily..Awesome work ! Keep the video coming 👍🏼

Good job man love this video series ! When i rebuild outboard engines i pull the feed pump fuse and turn it over a few times to build oil pressure. instead of starting with no oil

Thanks for the great videos. Excellent editing skills! I am an automotive tech that had the good fortune to do some line work on a few busses w/Cat and International motors. Also my dad was a truck driver and I did some ride-alongs as a kid. I will always have a place in my heart for the "big rigs". This was very interesting. Thanks for letting us tag along.

I think the engineering of the radiator support bracket would be more down to the truck manufacturer more so than CAT as they wouldn’t have had any input into its design 👍

i think i would have replaced the turbo as well. u said there was water in the oil, as well as the obvious moisture(steam) in the exhaust stream. who knows what shape the seals are like after being subjected to water. just my thoughts.

The radiator bracket is a Peterbilt thing. If you look at a KW, the A model ties the rad to the firewall, and the B model to the frame rails.

Give you a C- on your rebuild. You say brake lash is .028, Jake does not show that spec on any Cat engine. If exhaust set at .030 and brake is at .028 your lash on the exhaust is now incorrect. You must back off brake screw before adjusting valve lash. Among many mistakes I see.
@christopherkraemer5 жыл бұрын
John Goldsmith why don’t you just pound sand
@briansmyla86962 ай бұрын
I know this is an old video, and I just watched the part where you didn't bother to torque the exhaust manifold to spec. I'm curious to know if you experienced broken studs or blown gaskets down the road? Engineers publish torque specs based on their calculations of tensile strength of the bolts, and fatigue from thermal expansion cycles. Their calculations are designed to keep the bolt tension within an acceptable range based on temperature cycling. I'm always watching the battle between the engineers and the owner operators with boots on the ground! :)

I laughed when you talked about how dirty you were and how you hated to get dirty cause it gets your tools dirty hahaha. Damn when I am done working I am usually covered head to toe with shit. Some people can work all day and hardly get shit on them somehow but not me. And as far as getting tools dirty.... That's what they are made for, not for keeping in a showcase... Only in this modern day can mechanics tools be bought just for collectors items Jesus. And I actually purposely wipe oil and grease on a lot of my tools just so they won't rust. I rather have a grimy tool than a Rusty one. I have to work outside and in all weather up north so everything always gets Rusty anyways... Then people wonder why I don't want to buy snap on wrench sets and shit....

This was awesome video, I think only thing bothered me is part you didnt torque to yield that one part and just hammered them in as far as you can go with impact. I think it was rod caps if I remember right. Thats expensive job to take risk like that. Idk just saying. Nice video I really enjoyed it.
@kevingib1007 жыл бұрын
How does the heat inside the rocker cover impact the injector wiring? Do they use something different from automotive SXL high temp wire? The motor runs so much better than when it arrived and the shop doesn't fill with smoke in 15 seconds now.
@JUSTINSTURGILLTRUCKING7 жыл бұрын
Kevin Gibson you have the the the wires they use on or about the same automotive type wires I didn't see anything special about them and yeah I'm glad it doesn't feel the shop with smoke it does run a lot better I think the customer we will be happy with it

My shop is no where as tidy as yours, once I tidy it up ill throw together a video of all the shit I have, you've inspired me! Keep on keeping on!
