Hey Justin, Im a diesel mechanic in Australia and do abit of work on those Detroit's. If you're going to be servicing them yourself when you remove the oil filter always check that the spring loaded valve in the top of the stand pipe isn't broken. Can cause major issues if they aren't replaced when broken. Glad to see some videos back on the channel

My company switched to these 49X western stars last year from mostly Peterbilt 567s. These trucks definitely feel more solidly put together. Plus these Detroit engines sound and feel more oldschool.

My 49x has the Cummins in it. But the one I got ordered for February has the Detroit in it. Hope it holds together. The only problem I got is the small fuel tanks. One 100 Gallon tank isn’t enough for a 12 hour run for us.

Beautiful truck Justin, out of curiosity why did you get the Detroit to get all the safety stuff? Insurance discount?
@chrisromano38622 жыл бұрын
Glad to see your business is prospering man. Ive been watching way back since the video of the original jst western star rolling over came up on my feed. I knew the point where you had to have that manger/buffer between you and the drivers was coming...that's just the reality of growth. You can't run your business successfully when your stressed and mad all the time. We had to suggest and implement the same thing for my grandfather when he started pulling into the shop with the .38 on his hip on Monday mornings. Congrats again man on the growth and success.

There is a set of parameters in diagnostic link that they or anyone who has access to it can change to help with that. Off the top of my head I don't know exactly what they are but it's something like Park Brake Interlock. Basically these cabs are smart and have a certain amount of parameter checkpoints they need to pass in order to engage PTOs or whatever else you might be doing. The TCM being the main one which seems to take command over piggyback checks. Changing the PBI setting to not active will force the only parameter to be met as a neutral interlock check. I work on 47x and 49x trucks every day new from factory along with the new Freightliner and Peterbuilts coming out. These 47/49x trucks were the WORST trucks electrically to grasp and understand how to program. It took literal YEARS of us fighting with engineers who didn't even fully understand how or why something worked. Huge pain.

@Oliver 880 because we are a 24/7 animal feed production business, and deliver to farms 24 hours. Farmers don’t need to hear a horn blaring if a driver opens a door to help him see while backing around.

@PlayWaves1 Жыл бұрын
The DD16 is quite a bit different than the OM473. Specifically 200 parts that are different. The only exact parts commonality is the block. There's an article from New Zealand called "The OM 473, what it is and what it is not" and a Motor Trend article called "Mercedes-Benz OM 473 Diesel Engine - Torque" that talk about the differences.
@screamingeagle4525 Жыл бұрын
I don’t know how long you keep your trucks,but don’t let them idle if possible,that’s what kills the engine and the one box that Diamler does not care if it goes bad,because when it goes bad it will cost you about 15000. To replace it,believe me I got one myself

There’s got to be a way around that PTO E brake lock out. Is there no new Western Star water trucks? How are you supposed operate a water truck without a “hot PTO” There’s countless issues that would arise on trucks and equipment if they aren’t allowed a “hot PTO”
@nitebluesky2 жыл бұрын
The truck was set up with a common set up for a PTO. The sales guy(s) either didn't know what he was doing or just wanted to make a sale. The truck is customizable. So to make the changes its in the CPC.
