Wow, this made me tear up a little bit, and I’m not a very emotional person. I have ADHD and I feel like I’ve been on very very a similar journey to you over the last decade. Even down to the whole tutoring/working whilst studying part. I particularly resonated with the points about being too strict with task scheduling and thinking I was a night person because of lower distractions, and later finding out I work better before everyone else is awake than I do after everyone else goes to sleep. And finally the point of chaining tasks that go together or help each other has been such a game changer for me. Thank you for making this. I’m sure plenty people will benefit from this.

Having your family support you and just be civil is massive. When I was in college I had to pay my parents rent and pay all my schooling and expenses causing great financial stress. I also had a heroin addicted brother who was verbally and moderately physically abusive and scary. One of my parents was an alcoholic and the rest of my family were toxic but it was partially because they were stressed out from the other two family members. The stress caused me to drop out in year 2.

Hey Justin, just want to say thanks for being so open and realistic in the intro, saying that you didn't always work 100 hours and took breaks here and there. It just makes you seem so much more genuine and human. I'm not saying people shouldn't work that much, either. I get close myself often, but I do find it hard to believe when people tell me they work 100 hours a week every week, 26 hours a day, no breaks ever. And this isn't uncommon to hear on the internet. I always roll my eyes at those people, because I know they don't work that much even if they truly believe they do. The brain has a way of playing tricks on all of us. It's just refreshing seeing you be so honest about it. Great video by the way.

I have adhd and autism, scheduling is hard, executing is hard. I tried doing strict scheduling when I was in highschool and it took me way too long to realize that not only does it not help me, it also hinders my performance, because I have no concept of time lol. the main effect it had on me was being constantly stressed because it felt like endless deadlines, I was checking what time it is every 15 minutes. the second prominent effect was that I found myself unable to function without such a stricy schedule, paradoxically. I got so used to doing everything by the clock that I forgot how to ask myself what I want to do. I switched to to-do lists, but that presented another challenge: I had no idea how long a task would take, when I should do it, what has the highest priority, etc. then I came up with a gamechanger, instead of checking my to-do list, I tried doing as much as I could of what I felt like doing at the moment. I would write down what I did that day and then check if I can still use this framework tomorrow or if I should plan something from my to-do list, which would be shorter at that point, making it easier to decide

Working 100-hour weeks for four years is an extraordinary accomplishment that speaks to an almost superhuman level of discipline, focus, and resilience. The individual who has done this has not just defied conventional wisdom about work-life balance, but has redefined what is possible in terms of human productivity and endurance. The willingness to share insights about how to manage such a demanding schedule is both generous and invaluable. This isn't just a lesson in time management; it's a masterclass in the optimization of human potential. Anyone who can maintain such an intense workload and still find time to educate others is not just working hard but is also contributing meaningfully to the broader community.

Hey Justin, any advice on staying energised ? I wanna get more done, but even when well rested, I easily get drained throughout the day especially when working mentally challenging tasks and having worked out physically
@otto_jk9 ай бұрын
Not Justin, but for to anyone to give any advice you need to give more information 1. How much do you work per week? A lot of people have a physical or environmental limit which is a lot lower than 100h a week, for example, need to sleep longer than the average or a long commute. 2. How much do you sleep? Sleeping too little and too much both negatively affect productivity. 3. What's your diet? Maybe you eat too little or too much or have a vitamin D deficiency. 4. The nature of mentally challenging tasks is exactly that they're mentally challenging if they would be easy it would be impossible for them to be challenging. You either need to improve at your tasks, have a more efficient process of dealing with them or you need to just accept that the tasks are inherently challenging. 5. Do you do any cardio? If you have a large mass but your heart and respiratory system isn't fit enough to support your body you are gonna get tired. 6. Besides these there are countless of health and environmental issues that could make one tired.

120 hours of studying?! that's more than 17 hours a day! I get anxious just thinking about that
@nottomclancy24399 ай бұрын
Especially considering that real studying (deep, concentrated work on one topic; picture doing math work or active recall of knowledge / testing oneself) only really happens for bouts of 90min tops and then you have to rest (as in: should do something not cognitively straining) for AT LEAST 2-3hours before you can go again for another 90mins (if you want it to be effective)...and you can do that for 3 bouts of 90min max. Most people can't do more than three per day. Source: Dr. Andrew Huberman, Stanford, Neuroscientist I don't know what "17 hours of studying" is supposed to be, other than tedious work and virtue signaling about how great of a work ethic and lack of a personal life he has. The thought alone makes me want to vomit and cry about burnout.
