I laughed so hard and relate so much when Jesus was talking about having to translate. I was translating and filling out medical documents and things of that kind by the time I was 7 😂 Knowing my mom's signature and being able to copy her handwriting came in clutch in highschool 😂😂😅
@Swantekk9 ай бұрын
Doing all that at 7 is crazy because same! Parents worked all the time to feed us so they had no time to learn english. I was always so annoyed but now looking back Im glad I did because I see it differently now and am able to appreciate the fact that I am able to laugh and relate with many people in here haha

Yooooooo! Real talk. I can't even trust my 7 yr old niece or nephew to get something out of the fridge for me... they'd get lost or distracted along the way. While I was over here looking at legal papers and medical stuff.

Related to what Jesus said about Mexicans knowing the lay of the land in the Southwest, the same can be said about Vietnamese people in the Southeast. I remember visiting my aunt in Florida last summer and she was growing tropical fruits the same way our relatives would in Vietnam BECAUSE the climate and flora is relatively similar

As a Hispanic that grew up with both Hispanic and Asian friends, I’ve noticed that my Asian friends’ parents were a lot more strict and brutal towards them compared to how my parents treated me. And i think it’s because their parents and grandparents came from the trauma of war. Because the Korean War, Cold War, Vietnam War, World War 2 imperial Japan etc. were not that long ago when you think about it and a lot of people today are still affected by it.

Surprising to hear that about Mexican immigrants making fun of next gestation kids working white collar jobs... When in Mexico, even the janitors spend money to buy a suit, brief case, shoes, so on the commute, they can be seen as someone respectable... Seems it's the opposite

I think less than "I want you to suffer like I suffer" there's an unspoken observation that the mindset they need to succeed just isn't there. If someone were to have immediately made me a manager just 5 years ago I would have failed miserably because my mindset just wasn't where it is now. Or, I wouldn't have had the experience to know everything inside and out to be an effective leader like I do now. And I'm not saying it's like this with everyone but I know there's definitely a "prove yourself" mentality, at least with a lot of the Mexicans I know (central valley)

8:29 We have that in the Vietnamese-American (and I hear it from other Asian-Ams as well) community too unfortunately. Jesus is right on the macro level we do open up a lot of businesses and many of them cater to the needs of the community BUT on a micro level there is A LOT of self-hatred and sabotaging within the Boomer/Older Gen X age Vietnamese-Americans. Dealt with a lot of jackasses in the community on behalf of my parents.

The “random job assignment” Bart mentioned that happened way back in the day truly set up who was gonna be rich in 2023 or not, like there are a lot of wealthy Chinese international university students who went to my Uni in Canada and a lot of them told me this, there grandfather or great grandfather got “lucky” in the “random assignment” ofc there was corruption and certain families were guaranteed a good “random assignment” for their kid but damn, then their kids were also “randomly assigned” to be a doctor or dentist and henceforth 😭

Jesus' papi/padre (dad) and grandpa/grandfather = that's some great material; I was just dying, man.
