Thanks Kaylene for getting the discussion back on topic. Otherwise this episode would have been 80% about Wuhan virus lol. But yeah, the Tom Brady roast was one of the funniest I've seen in years. I've watch a number of standup comedies on Netflix and majority of them weren't funny or only have a few funny moments.

Joe is the king of derailing! He keeps repeating the same narrative over and over again! He took can‘s questions and talked about something else.He probably didn’t even watch the special and couldn’t tell him what the most extreme joke was

they didn't work because people were using them as chin guards half the time. and sure, it doesn't PREVENT you from getting covid completely, but it reduces the chances of you getting a large viral load. smh

I think what they mean when they say "comedy is back" is that offensive jokes are back in the forefront in major media, like Netflix. With the TB12 roast being so widely accepted as good content, the hope is that hollywood will follow suit with more "unsafe" content that was once considered cancellable material.

What do we mean "Is it back?" It never went anywhere. Roasts are specifically meant to be no holds barred and you can say whatever. It's just that we don't have Roasts that often. And Steve made a good point that most people saw it bc it was on Netflix and idk how many people would watch the Comedy Central roasts and how much coverage it would get circulating around social media.

no, the past decade or so comedy has very much so been absent. with all the cancellations, doxxing, swatting, etcera; there were real world consequences for comments made online. past opinions you expressed, the old jokes you told; were being used retroactively to vilify people in the present. people have being trying to 'cancel' Dave Chappele, someone even rushed the stage trying to attack him. some people thought it was fine when Will Smith rushed the stage at the Oscars and slapped Chris Rock. it wasn't okay. but the cultural climate of punishing people for jokes was very real. and people stopped being as funny as they used to be.

I feel like my love for JK strengthen during covid. I've been a fan since the Unco Same and Unco Chin days but my love for JK ebbed and flowed over time. But there was so much bullshit during covid it was nice to come back to a place of sanity and of course comedy. Thank you for not caving!! I love you guys! 😭

Bro, the masks were never about stopping the spread. It's to lessen the risk of infection (it's really more about you spreading it to others). Assuming it did so by only 10% or even lower, I''ll take that rather than no protection at all.

Well the masks were already proven to do no such protection, even if one used the N95 masks. They worked if one constantly discarded of their used mask after a few hours of use, depending on how much exposure to the virus one was being exposed to. In 2020, nurses and doctors were using the same mask all day and that caused more harm than good.

This. And the vaccines don’t stop you from getting it. It reduces the risk of you having severe life threatening symptoms LOL. I get being angry at the government for their dumb ass protocols but the vaccine saves lives. It also can mean that a small percentage can have shitty side effects. That’s all drugs and anything medical. Nothing is perfect.

Yeah, this went off topic rather quickly and not necessarily in a good way. And in any case, comedy didn't leave and has been around well before the Tom Brady roast even took place. Tim C. and David never stopped telling jokes and roasting, even while they were filming in Tim's kitchen. Comedians have been going on tour for a few years now. And comedians have been posting their jokes and comedy online, racking up high numbers with their YT shorts, all before the Tom Brady roast.

Comedy was never gone Flagrant cast made sure of that they keep up with going off the wall made money, and everybody is now like fuck it lets all get Flagrant too. Andrew Schultz the goat Brillant idiot and Flagrant 2 and very few pod casts keep it real. Joe Rogan, Bad Friends. The only people still playing nice are the guys on the Disney cruise and college tours.

I don't think comedy left, it is just a matter of where the jokes are being told. Considering how many comedians that have been going out on tour; even before the Tom Brady roast; plus the number of comedians posting their content online promoting themselves; again well before the Tom Brady roast; it shows comedy didn't leave, it is just that people quit complaining about it so much.

They meant "back" as in back in the mainstream comedy scene. Yes comedians went on tour before Tom Brady's roast, but none of them captured National attention like this. This roast was watched by a lot of people and most people liked it.

That could be, yet at the same time I have seen so many YT reaction vids from Black ppl who watched Gabriel Iglesias "racist gift basket" routine in the past couple of years, and for the most part they thought it was hilarious and kind of accurate.
