100% spot on! I would add dried lavender, small vases here and there with fresh garden flowers or dried wild flowers and aromatic herbs in the kitchen if you don't have a garden. Portraits, oriental style carpets and lace is also very common. That huge, heavy closet and the big dinner table. Meals with the family and/or friends is sacred!

I didn't know what it was called until now, but I'm obsessed with French Country! It's been my interior design style this whole time without realizing it; I purchased a ton of wedding decor in this theme before we ended up eloping, and then I repurposed it as home decor. I love me some ornate gold, rattan, wood tones, and all things toile. I also think Matisse art, white or jadeite milk glass, Turkish accent rugs, and sunflowers add that lil' bit of je nais se quois; I have faux sunflowers in a milk bottle-shaped decanter vase currently. 😊🌻

You gave me many ideas on how to style my bedroom to complement my oak with a fruitwood finish American Drew Country French bedroom set which is 45 years old. An additional comment that I have is the style of clothing you are wearing suits you well as does the background in your video. I have gone through different design themes like American Farmhouse, Old-World Mediterranean, and Victorian but I have stuck with French Country design and don't think I will ever change. I love the French blue and other muted colors or how forgiving this theme is. I have a collection of ceramic chickens and roosters in my yard (bc I don't want to clutter my kitchen). I would further add lacy or crocheted tablecloths/centerpieces, lemons, poppies, and Fleur de Lis to the list. Thank you for making this video.

I would love your take on how to have a spooky/cozy/inviting room but make it summer. I know this isn't a thing but I love Halloween and dark Gothic stuff, but also love spring, gardening and books, but I'm not sure what to do with my decor between spring and fall. Summer is too hot and I just want a clean cozy home with some spooky elements. Maybe I'm the only one?

You definitely want to listen to Delius to get in the mood for this. Start with Brigg Fair. The composer was a pastoralist with a French flavor. Of course Brigg Fair is a Roma horse fair that takes place annually in England! There is an associated going-to-the-fair song (like Scarborough, for example!). The Delius piece is a theme and variations on that.

Important to note A larger longer table cloth looks more French/English/classic. If the hang of the table cloth is too short it will look decidedly American. Layering the too short table cloth over another table cloth that is larger also helps with keeping French/English/classic look.

So Im sure youve heard of this but if your looking to colorize like natural wood, whatever, furniture, etc., may I suggest historical milk paint. Ive used it, Ive known several people that have used it and its relatively easy to make from what I hear (Ive not done it). You can buy it commercially from what Ive heard but it may ne a little more expensive? Idk. I just like the look it gives and I think it would be great for your cottage and French farmhouse looks. That is all. Thanks for the vid.

Honest question, what is the difference between French Country and English Country? ~Chris
@a.j.46448 ай бұрын
I would like to see an answer. I have no design or art background, and yes, visuals of what Style X looks like are helpful, but so are some verbal descriptions with pictures of Yes, This/No, Not That. I've watched a handful of other French Country videos, but this one really spelled out specifics and gave me the greatest understanding. Keep up the good work, Lanchen!

French features more gold, more shabby antique, all this makes it rustic. Also the fabric patterns are different and no wallpaper, mostly white walls or the bare stone. I don't think horses are very French, actually they are more in the English hunting traditions, French have more playfulness.
@nesxya4 ай бұрын
English country has more cottage elements and patterns like roses. Wood and colors are more saturated in medium tones. French country is more faded. Walls are more natural or worn almost like Tuscany styles. English is more Wallpapers, brick, wattle and daub. French is more ornate furniture while English is more homey and boxy at times. Plants and gardens are different. English has the constructed wildflowers while French is more symmetrical. Overall they both have some overlap with country, rustic, and cottage elements but cultural differences show through in furniture, fabrics, building materials, dishes, and decorative features. 😊

Um, I haven't finished yet BUT I think herein was more like the Cottage core people got lazy and didn't want to go ALL IN and so started just using "Light" Academia elements? Like how I feel that if you went to an ACTUAL French country home, instead of chandeliers brought from Paris antique stores, what you'd find instead is lots of modern appliance stuff sort of jury-rigged into original rustic structures in tight spaces and other odd room configurations where the stuff doesn't really look Old-Timey or thematically cohesive, etc. That here there might be something cohesive somewhere in there that I'm missing or ignoring BUT in the cooler months I think I'd prefer Bavarian mountain instead and since it's already pretty hot now here I'm feeling more like South Asia vibe but, as I've mentioned, too much hodgepodge here to fix entirely now in one fell swoop... Or like when the whole country thing was first taking off and they were showing eggs on display in bowls on counters and such and I can only imagine how that would smell here if not refrigerated, etc. And I never want one of those straw brooms in a corner, so at least here there would be none of that, but the colors a little more beige than Coastal Cottage even if you are adding some sage or blue or whatever pastels. The captions were no help, so TOILE is the word she is saying about those busy patterns.
@Highland_Paddy8 ай бұрын
Yes, I am less interested in the beat-up white paint than I would be for clean white paint and that stark contrast they make against colors like seafoam or slate grey, etc.
@Highland_Paddy8 ай бұрын
I like the burlap look, but I think that and especially wicker says the OPPOSITE vibe of gold frames and chandeliers, tho.
@Highland_Paddy8 ай бұрын
I would think floral lampshades or something would go more with the gingham and such whereas Toile would go more with the upscale aspects of the aesthetic but none of the aged wood stuff. I think much more planning would be required to make those things work whereas the other country aspects could just be more spontaneous. Nobody's going to care if the gingham totally works with aged furniture, whereas the pattern won't go so well with gold frames while the Toile won't work pretty much AT ALL with wood painty frames, etc.
@Highland_Paddy8 ай бұрын
I don't know if those standy mirrors are hard to find or just hard to situate in a typical room now? Kind of like those room separator things. I mean, let's not get into the space limitations of apartments, but the construction of the new American homes is like a giant master bedroom where it can maybe go, but then small other rooms with mirrored closets and such. All fairly tacky and boxy and without much character to fit "odd" furniture items or classic vintage show pieces of said like such. Floor space is precious with giant beds and most bedrooms have a TV area now that takes up some space and can usually only go on one wall for the plugs and wires.
