I think the problem with these is that killing your neighbour fucks you over, since you start expanding into their territory but keep the same number of balls, making you vulnerable at the other end.

True You could allow to steal their critical 4 squares and have 8 of them. But then the game wouldnt ever finish especially near the end

I would like to see a terretory-war, where a colour can take over a "capital" a defeated colour. In this war it was often a disaventage to kill a neighbour and take over it's terretory, because you got far away from your "capital" and couldn't defend it against the other neighbour anymore. But i don't know the best rules for that idea yet.

I think the best Idea is that if you kill an opponent, the base spot that was left now becomes under your control as a base and must also be destroyed to be eliminated. Would promote the expansion idea as even if you lose the 4 original spots, you would still have the 1 left and not just die.

[SPOILERS] I am in love with Yellow's strategy for killing purple. By knocking out Green first they gives Purple way too much space to operate, and since they're now much further away from their base than usual, Magenta has the chance to pounce on them. Great strategy by Yellow, coming from a guy rooting for Purple.

It wasn't yellow that killed purple. Purple got into a huge disadvantage due to lot of space. Yellow just held on to its base.

RIP Orange. They almost came back. It seems like the team I root for always ends up being one of the first to go tho, and I typically root for red. Anyways, you should add white to this.

The winner had control over those 3 blocks on the border for almost the entire time of the final 2 colors. That's what secured the victory despite the other colour having much more territory.

Actually, more territory is a disadvantage, as that means there is more space that isn't near your capital for your balls to spread out to, leaving you defenseless to attacks

If you're in one of the diagonal areas you instantly have a higher chance of winning because straight shots are easier to land then diagonal shots, what I'm saying is that orange couldn't have won due to the fact that it would have had to get past a gray box in order to bounce towards yellow, this would also have to happen as all of the yellow balls are attempting to defend that area.

I like to see it as pressure. To optimise chance to win, the best thing is that someone die the farther away from you. Other colors will be drawn to it, leaving a bit of their initial space. Light blue died rapidly after his kill because of it Then the ones near light blue died because of the same phenomena Light pink death was a bit more unlucky. By killing someone, orange get pushed to the one he killed. So after his kill he was more likely to lose (note that he was already more likely to lose : either he kills someone and reduces his chance, either he gets killed rightaway) Orange got a bit lucky and equilibrate in a decent way. Then yellow won by chance, yellow color has rotate to the left, thus winning

If colour next to you gets eliminated, your own area will get larger and sooner or later it can be very bad for your defence. So you should hope that colours next to you won't be the first ones to get eliminated. This was key factor why yellow won this time: it was last colour to have an eliminated colour next to. Of course this won't guarantee victory but lowers the odds dramatically.

Blue was actually good when it had the little defense in the middle and even after it died that middle section put up a little defense fromm all other attacking teams

That middle section is actually why blue died. Same with red. It was an unnecessary front to defend, so when it's core got attacked, it had less it could do
