I don't think its an exaggeration to say Purple Kiss is the most talented 4th gen group. They're just amazing at everything. Outside of vocals dancing and rapping they are *so* involved in writing, composing and even choreographing a huge part of their discography🥰

Purple Kiss started off with the concept of "purple" being a mix of different colours, reflecting the group's wish to not stick to a single sound. This was reflected in their two pre-debut MVs, My Heart Skip a Beat (kind of rockish) and Can We Talk Again (ballady). As time went on, they embraced the "cute creepy" concept they started with Zombie, and continued the witch storyline. Ponzona ("ponzoña" means "poison" in Spanish) and Zombie are IMO pretty simple, conceptually: "we will poison your mind purple, and you will never stop thinking about us", and "we're cute zombies in love with a human". But Nerdy might need a bit longer explanation. Their lore videos published before the MV had the witch coven meeting, where they concluded witches are done with hiding, and should work on getting the mainstream to accept the weird (not just them, but also other out-of-the-ordinary folk, e.g. the shy guy who hides his many eyes under a bush of hair that you saw in the video). In Nerdy, they decide to raid the broadcasting company who exploits the weirder side and the stereotypes that come with it for profit. There is the eyes guy on a talk show (which kind of has the Jerry Springer not-really-nice vibe), there's the Sabrina-the-Teenage-Witch kind of series being filmed (the people in blue being there to fake telekinesis by the power of blue screen), and Purple Kiss coven start to mess with the production teams. Of course, the whole thing is a metaphor, with a clear message that othering people who don't fit neatly into the society's norms is not okay. As to uniqueness, yes, they are not quite the run-of-the-mill girl group, but they do stand on shoulders of giants, as the saying goes. Many people noted that PK is what you'd get if (G)I-DLE and Dreamcatcher had a baby. Also, obviously, there was a lot of pressure to not disappoint in the vocal department, given their sister-group, Mamamoo. This does not diminish anything Purple Kiss are - they are still an amazing group with a recognisable style. A lot of sets or locations get reused. I think (not sure) that they also shot My Heart Skip a Beat in the same hall. The girl whose voice you loved is Swan, their youngest. She was singing guide tracks for Mamamoo and Chungha as a 15-year-old trainee. She and Goeun were involved in composition and writing of both Ponzona and Nerdy, and Yuki wrote her own rap lyrics (as she always does, despite Korean not being her native language). Ireh, Dosie and Chaein often participate in choreographing their routines. Chaein was involved in writing and/or composition of bunch of their B-sides (and has been known to freestyle on vlives). Ireh and Dosie are also quite talented at drawing/painting. Unfortunately, they lost their seventh member, vocal line member Jieun, so as of Sweet Juice they are a 6-member group... but it is sick how full-to-the-brim with talent they are.

I was waiting for this :) Oh and i'm very excited for your album reactions, all their albums are great and for me personally in every album my favourite song was a b-side track. Will be interesting to see which album will be the first one you will listen to (i'm sure afterwards you will be interested to check out the rest of them in the coming weeks) and which b-sides you will like. So thank you again, it is nice to see someone experiencing Purple Kiss for the first time and appreciating them. :)

Straight up discovered Kpop via rock guys reacting to Dreamcatcher ... which led me then to Mamamoo and their early jazz vibes, so my love for "underdogs" in Kpop is pretty deep then Pixy did what they did .. and then RBW did their own new twist of like a DC/Pixy crossover ... and now I cannot get enough of this group

Definitely check out the Halloween version of Zombie! It's very, very different from the MV you checked out here. You'll love it! PK is insanely talented and they don't have a bad song. The whole discography is amazing! Another dark concept group you might enjoy is PIXY. Their debut was Wings and they have an ongoing storyline where they are haunted and messed with by a witch. PIXY and PK are neck and neck for me on my list of favs.

So many interesting things about PK and so little time. THere are TONS of clever things that they do in this song but this is just One. The song is about that they are going to betwitch / poison you to make you love them and once you do you are theirs. This is the concept and many of their songs follow this theme. An interesting musical metaphor that many will miss is at 2:54 the song goes POW, musically speaking, the earlier part of the song is kind of the seduction and then this moment is kind of like they are grabbing you by the collar and saying 'Look/listen to ME I am talking to you.!' These girls are so complex. There is always paradox written into their lyrics, 'we're cute but we're dangerous' that kind of thing.. I'm sure you know that they write, compose, produce, correograph, yadda yadda. These are truly artists and not just cutsie singers prancing around on stage like most K-Pop idols. Thank you Pat for posting and thank you for supporting Purple Kiss.

Also, on zombie's mv finale, htat boy who faints is Giuk, onewe's bassist (a kband of the same agency), who has recently released his solo minialbum (one song is with his close friend, the boyz sunwoo). I would love to see a reaction on onewe, they are incredible, their music is perfect and they have one of the most amazing vocalist in the 4th gen (Yonghoon), i think you'd love them. They released an english track named 'gravity' and i would totally recommend 'aurora' too for a first impression.

RBW started out as a very small company. They are around today because of their first Girl Group, Mamamoo. So Purple Kiss have some older sisters to look up to. The Halloween version of Zombie is actually really cool if you are into much more creepy and scary stuff, totally different vibe with the same lyrics. It's done more as an EDM than the throwback instrumental sound of this fun version.

You should definitely check out the Zombie halloween performance, they change the the song completly and gave a whole new vibe to it. And their b-sides are really good, if i would recommend a song would be Pretty Psycho, they have a performance video for it. Thanks for the reaction

So I'll try to give u more infos about them as we progress on the video but after Ponzona here is what i can tell u : - They're Mamamoo lil' sisters and like them, they're basically all-rounders, they can sing, rap and dance perfectly. Also Ponzona might be their debut song but they released few performances videos before. - Keep in mind that they were the first group to debut with a concept this strong since Dreamcatcher's debut so yeah, that was really a feel good moment to see more group popping like this on their debut. - They've a "tradition" with every single of their albums : they always start them with a 2mns intro and these intros always have a performance video coming like 10 days before the actual comeback... They're kind of a teaser I guess but I see them more like ambiancers to give u a general idea of the vibe of the upcoming album.

Now after Nerdy, here's my trivia : - First, yup they can nail any concept and add a weird twist/feeling in it lmaoooo. Actually Nerdy is still my fav from them mostly cause the song is catchy af and the lyrics are hitting home : how people tend to ostracize nerds in general but make them look cool at the end of the day by doing so... And how being nerdy or different in general is actually ok :D - So far, I think you're about to fall for Swan, the main vocalist hahaha :P Good choice tho, Swan voice is absolutely unique in the industry, she's a first in terms of her tone and all... She's also the maknae of the group :)

And after Zombie, I'll finally give you more infos for future reactions but before : You finally witnessed my bias high note in this one (Na Go Eun, face of the group and lead vocalist... same a Nayeon... Coincidence? I think not lol). Anw, you're still missing one title track : "MemeM" then after this I highly recommend you to watch the intros performances (should be 5 of them that you can do in one vid since they're kinda short perfs) then you should def listen to their mini-albums cause if you like their vibe, you'll absolutely adore their bsides. Plus you'll hear more of Swan's amazing voice hahaha :P I'll finish my comment by saying that as I told you on your IVE reactions, PK are one of my absolute favs among 4th gen and that says a lot considering how picky I can be in term of kpop songs... Guess those 12 years of Kpop stan life made me hard to satisfy so when I find a group that can make me move my ass I tend to support them really hard lmao

AmadanMath covered most of the good stuff. Kudos to them because holy giant wall of text Batman that's a lot of typing. 👏👏 One thing I will add is something a lot of people miss. It is how Ponzona, the song title, ties into Purple Kiss, the group name. As has been pointed out, ponzona = poison in Spanish. A purple kiss is the result of a poisonous bite because it commonly causes bruising and/or discoloration. Purple Kiss + Ponzona + the reference to a "kiss mark" in the lyrics... Pretty cool, no? On a side note: While we're on the subject of under rated girl groups with dark concepts, you really should check out Pixy. They are another rookie girl group and, yes, they're pretty dark. And talented. Very talented. And like Dreamcatcher and Purple Kiss, they are very unique. Their latest comeback is called Karma. You should check it out. Based on what I've seen of your reactions I'm confident that you won't be disappointed. PS: Some of Pixy's MV's can be pretty dark, so brace yourself.
