Pentecostal born and raised here. I remember being a little girl and watching a pastor say that he wanted to pray for people who needed dental work. He said God was going to fill their cavities with gold. I sat in awe, fully believing this, and wanted to inspect each person’s mouth that had been prayed for. I believed in the power of God. Fast forward to 16 years old when I gave my life to Jesus. After experiencing back pain, a chiropractor told me that it was because my hips were out of alignment. Later that week during a “healing service,” I walked to the front for prayer and relayed this to my pastor. He sat me in a chair and put my feet in another in front of me. He then told me that this was happening because one of my legs was longer than the other. Very confidently, he asked me if I wanted to be taller or shorter (I forget what I answered) then lifted one of my legs and let it drop back into the chair. He then had me stand up and, asked how my back felt. With him and the entire church staring at me expectantly, I lied and said it felt better (I felt absolutely nothing) and the whole church exploded into praise. I felt so bad for lying but never forgot that. I questioned all of the supposed "miracle healings" that were happening in the church, and even heard later that he became full of pride, claiming that he was the one performing the miracles. I do believe God heals but I question what’s going on in some of these churches. And now that I know my Bible a little better, I absolutely do not believe God was filling people’s cavities with gold. I did come to know the Lord and love him in a Pentecostal church, but I so disagree with the extrabiblical teachings and goings-on that are rampant in some charismatic circles.

I had a similar experience. Childhood pentecostal church. Sunday school teacher tells us that it pleases God to speak in tongues, who wants to please God? Of course an 11 YO wants to please God so I volunteered. So I started to pray and ask God for the gift. After a while nothing happened. The teacher started to apply pressure, it was time to go to church but we could not leave because we were waiting for God to move me in tongues. I could feel myself turning red with embarassment. Then I just spit some gibberish out. The teacher was giddy with praise and class was over. But like you, I felt guilty, but also was wondering about the reality of the faith if there was no way to tell the real from the false. I started to make me wonder if the 'born again' experience could be the same way - not being able to know if it was real or just made up. Needless to say, after really becoming born again, I have spoken against charismatic teaching as fraudulent.

@@dougdoesit3013 Similar story to both of you, but at church camp. I was born, raised, and still go to an AoG church. Even though I'm now reformed and lean much more cessationist. Thankfully, my pastor is very biblical. Expositional, preaches against much of the "excess" in the charismatic movement, etc. We also have no tongues, or running around, and other charismania. In fact, we used to have 2 or 3 people every week shouting out in tongues before he came to our church (around 25 years ago). Shortly after he arrived, he stopped everything, walked up to the podium and said that biblical tongues are accompanied by a translation, and there was no translation present. That put an end to it. Anyway... back to the church camp story. It was obviously a pentecostal church camp, and at the end of every service they'd do the music and prayer circles and people would be speaking in tongues and falling over and all that stuff. I avoided it, never spoke in tongues my whole life, etc but one of these nights while praying for others the circle "turned on me" lol and suddenly they were all around me praying. After several minutes I finally just fell over to make it end, then laid their awkwardly for a few minutes before I got up and went back to my seats. Then one of the other kids, later that night when talking to our room counselor said that I had spoke in tongues too. I felt it was too awkward/rude to say no I didn't so I just smiled and nodded. For a long time I thought something was wrong with me. Everyone talking about what "God had told them" and speaking in tongues, and getting "slain in the spirit"... I thought that I just wasn't as "holy" or "christian" as they were. Years later, and most of those kids that were always falling over and speaking in tongues aren't even in a church anymore. The one in particular that said I had spoke in tongues to the counselor had a couple kids out of wedlock, one in high school, doesn't go to church, etc. We played high school football together and I see him from time to time. He's a nice guy, and we're friends/acquaintances and all that. But it just made me realize alot of what I saw and made me feel like I was "missing out" on, was manufactured and for show. I didn't know "cessationism" was a thing. I just thought the pentecostal view on it was "what the bible said". Just like I grew up thinking the Left Behind version of the end times was just "what the bible said". So thankful for ministries like Justin's, or Ligonier, or Apologia that at least show there are other biblical interpretations so I know that it's something I need to study / look into. Not that I just go "oh they must be right", but at least made me aware that the way I was raised wasn't the only possible view on different doctrines.

@@MansterBear Appreciate that account, I concur with much of your experience. So I will tell just one more. Fast forward and I am a new Christian. Learning some but not steadfast in doctrine. A co-worker invited me to his church, it was Pentecost Sunday but I didn't know it. Everyone was jumping and jiving and his big intimidating pastor was insisting I knew nothing about the spirit unless I was baptized and spoke in tongues. Practically drug me to the front of the church and I got mobbed by the prayer circle. I was unsure about the whole thing but as they were all laying hands on me and praying in tongues I simply stood submissively and prayed silently, "Lord, if this is what you require I wish to obey, but if this is not from you, please protect me." They prayed until they ran out of tongues. They got tired of jumping around and drifted away. And when I opened my eyes that big ugly pastor was glaring at me with hatred and practically threw me out of the place. I went back to my church, told my pastor abou the shocking experience, and he said, "We have a book in our library by John MacCathur. You may want to read it." I did, and never looked back.

I was healed of epilepsy which I had for 5 years. I have brain scans & was on anti-siezure medicine. I had a time of prayer, ending up in a tear-filled heap on my kitchen floor, begging God to heal the epilepsy so I could work again & help my Husband. I had a piercing feeling of sorrow for an ongoing sin in my life & my prayer immediately switched to repentance. Unlike some times when I did not feel as sorry, this was so genuine. I remembered starting with the request for healing & I felt as though God granted that request but I kept taking my medicine for 2 weeks until realizing I truly was healed. That was April 2015 & I remain free of epilepsy. I have other health issues. I can't explain why I was healed of 1 thing & not these other things except to say that the condition came about around the same time as when I began slipping out of serving God & that my repentence was so sorrowful & genuine. I don't know because I did not connect them at the time I repented. God is real & His mercy is deep & personal.

I’m a nonbeliever, so I don’t have any dog in this fight. However, I have followed Michael Brown’s role in the NAR movement. Brown, leveraging his doctorate, provides the intellectual underpinning for the continuationist narrative. He practices plausible deniability by claiming he’s so busy reading the bible in Hebrew and writing books that he does not know anything about the NAR crackpots. If you lie down with dogs you run the risk of catching fleas. Brown associates with some of the most egregious proponents of crackpot Christianity including Todd White. He is friends with Sid Roth and has hosted “Its Supernonsense”. He was a supporter of Mike Bickle and had shown himself to lack discernment with his friendship of numerous fallen pastors. All these NAR prophets never see the dodo before it hits the fan. Funny that.

@JerryPotter.19 сағат бұрын
@@TheCoaster78 Jesus healed 10 lepers but only one did what Jesus told him to do. NINE went to hell. So what is the point of your comment/question? Why would Jesus heal anything of a non-believer? He is not on earth anymore. The signs of the Messiah were to prove who Jesus was. He doesn't have to prove himself anymore.

I've given Brown the benefit of the doubt so many times. No longer. I'm just one person, but I no longer believe Brown is just misunderstood. He's either naive, with the discernment of a child, or just plain deceitful. The only thing more unbelievable are his defenders in the comment section. It's no wonder that so many charlatans get into the charismatic tomfoolery business. People absolutely eat it up. It's easy money. The number of ignorant people out there is astounding.

Chris and Steve are Lutheran's, and Justin is a Baptist. They even have different eschatological beliefs. Yet they are unified. There is unity in the body of Christ when the Word(Holy Scriptures) and truth is the base and foundation of our beliefs. You do not find unity like that on the charismatic side, where they are blown around by every wind of doctrine(and false prophecies that consistently contradict each other.) They all promote each other and act like they are unified. But they are not consistent in their beliefs, since there is no foundation in the Word of God in the Holy Scriptures.

Maybe this was already addressed, but I believe that Dr. Brown needs to continue to endorse faith healers because he himself has been a big part of a healing revival. If he honestly looks at what he’s endorsing, he will need to renounce his own part in false revivals. His pride would suffer.

Coming from New York City, Queens especially years ago as a non-believer who would bar hop, the whole "I'm a cop" thing well I witnessed first hand when the guy I was riding in a car with pulled a similar tactic on someone and claimed this to someone on the street who freaked out. Now no gun was involved, but this was a somewhat common thing to do as unmarked cops were very common years back. Todd Whites story (obviously not his fake leg length trick) but the story of the drug/cop thing is a possibility, maybe but probably 70% fabricated. I think the lie was probably all centered around The Lord telling him "he took the bullets for him" The kid may or may not had a gun and possibly shot at his car when he was driving off a block away or something if even that. The thing is i can't give any credence to Todd White because of the leg trick which is 100% a false magician trick.. I can't trust a word Todd White says even if theres a kernel of truth in a story or two.

While there are false preachers and churches, I was at a service where this preacher was praying for people who had one leg shorter than the other. They measured my leg, and one was shorter, so they prayed. I felt a sensation of warm oil being poured on my right hip joint, and my right leg grew out. I was amazed! That was when I was in my early twenties. I am now in my seventies, and I have not forgotten that experience. God can heal today just like He did in the Bible days. But, like anything else, you have to use discernment on churches, pastors, doctrines, etc. These days especially!!

@toolegittoquit_0012 күн бұрын
Jordan shoots from the hip too frequently and that occasionally results in collateral damage. He seems 'Reformed' but relies upon John MacArthur too much. MacArthur calls himself a 'leaky Dispensationalism' and is not really Reformed Winger is a Calvary Chapel guy so he's a Dispy and a Continuist. Until recently he was pretty wishy washy and doesn't like Calvinists. (He's friends with Leighton Flowers). He has shown some backbone with his work on the Passion mistranslation and his recent exposé on Benny Hinn. He has said that Joel Osteen, Bill Johnson and a few other false preachers are (still) brothers ... Time will tell

I watch Jordan Riley a lot. I really like him. Where is he in error ? I don’t agree with a couple of things he’s said but nothing major. I like Mike winger too, don’t agree with everything he says either but I did see videos where he thinks Todd White is a brother in Christ, which is concerning.
@Window45032 күн бұрын
@Tawanda99 Mike prefers to err on the side of assuming that someone is a believer if they seem to have a personal understanding of the gospel message. He separates this from their public sermons. I can’t remember the context of when he said that, but I do know that Mike would never endorse Todd’s errors. In fact, Mike’s going through a bit of a discernment phase, so it could be that he’s learning how hurtful these wolves really are. He used to hold the “just be faithful and preach” stance like some hecklers here have. Not anymore. There may yet be a Todd White video from him.

After listening to what they said about Jordan Riley, without giving us reasons why they say what they said, I’m beginning to question whether I should continue watching them. I don’t see any difference between Jordan Riley and Steve Kozar, they both not pastors they both KZbinrs. Whats sad about this is, you see Jordan Riley telling people to watch Justin Peters , endorsing him, and Justin telling people that they shouldn’t watch his videos. This is just sad really, I literally feel like I should stop watching all of the discernment ministries because of how they treating each other , like you have to be in their camp for them to endorse you.At this point I feel like just reading God’s word and watching sermons than to spend my time watching people who can’t even treat each other like brethren.

Dr Brown exhibits psychological co-dependency like what happens when a person is chronically gaslight as a child. He is very intelligent and accomplished, yet when he is in front of White his whole posture is submissive, though he is the scholar. He exhibits emotional pre-acceptance rather than critical thinking. This is typical of Charismatic ministry which uses gaslighting as a basic method, i.e. "This is a miracle - if you can't see it there is something wrong with you - you don't have faith - do you believe it - and all God's people say Amen" And so all the people say Amen, bullied by the gaslighting and one notch deeper into co-dependency.
