Many people can't appreciate a wholesome swashbuckling movie any more. It's like the 'Three Musketeers' (2011) which I bought for 5 bucks and considered them a loss before I watched it. I was pleasantly surprised. Sure, it wasn't really a Three Musketeers movie (the names where there, but that was it), but it was a fun swashbuckling movie and I couldn't say if I wanted more 'Assassin's Creed' stuff in it or less.

6:59 - That voice is Jim Cummings, extremely prolific voice actor, especially for Disney. Voice of Winnie the Pooh, Tigger, Ray from Princess and the Frog, the Guard captain from Aladdin, and many others. Chances are if you've watched a Disney film over the last 30 years, he's been in it! And 15:10 - you are indeed correct, that bird is the equivalent of the Roc from the original Sinbad stories.

The thing is - Eris would've gotten her way if Sinbad had stolen the book or not. She said "Steal the book for ransom and you'll be rich enough to lounge on a beach. Steal the book for me and you can buy the beach." Technically, she didn't say he'd be rich if he stole the book for her. Being able to buy the beach COULD mean you'll be rich enough to buy it, or it COULD mean that by the time she's finished with the world after she gets the book it'll be in such a bad state that anyone could buy it for five cents.

Reasons for the 'going under in the cinemas' thing: Came out 7 weeks after 'Finding Nemo', 3 weeks after 'Rugrats Go Wild' and was followed up a week later by 'Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl'. It was also the last movie with traditional animation (and the last with handdrawn scenes) released by DreamWorks, up until they released the second installment of the 'Spirit' series (and the bits used in 'Captain Unterpants').

I remember when this came out, you either loved or hated it. I didn't particularly dislike it, it just didn't have the feel of a Sinbad movie; by then I was already a fan of the Sinbad the Sailor films from the 60s and 70s. This adaptation felt like a television special, or a pilot episode for something grander. I'm trying to remember how the movie was marketed - there were plenty of trailers running for it. But there were certainly other, more sincere movies that overshadowed it that summer.

what I really like about the near-end part of the movie is that... well, it was true, at the moment of answering the question given by Eris... he would not sacrifice himself. It was only after the situation became REAL that he did the right thing... And he didn't realize it until the moment Eris interrupted the execution that, yes, he did indeed not lie after all when it came to it.

I really liked this movie, saw it in theaters on the day of release because I knew it would be fun like Dreamworks other 2D movies. But it landed in 6th place at the box office behind, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde, Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle, 2 Fast 2 Furious, Finding Nemo, Rugrats Go Wild, and Hulk. The week after, Pirates of the Caribbean released at Number 1 and pushed everything down one notch. The sad part is that since this movie flopped, it proverbially closed Dreamworks 2D animation department. I think they did a couple TV 2D style things, but I was sad to see a strong Disney competitor lose a battle. Lately their 3D movies have been faltering too, and somehow Illumination has been getting all the business, and honestly I really don't care for their movies.

A ship like these was no place for a woman. They were very dangerous. There's a reason pirates were often shown with hand hooks and peg legs. A little over 37% of sailors died from job related injuries (and this figure doesn't include shipwrecks or battle injuries.. the latter only composing 2.25% of deaths), though these figures are from the 1600s-1700s and not the late-700s to early 800s which this story is set "You can recognize when a task is relatively safe when society starts allowing women to do it" ~ Karen Straughan
