Well, DreamWorks did still do a little 2D animation for segments in the Kung Fu Panda franchise and briefly in the How To Train Your Dragon short Legend of the Boneknapper Dragon. The Croods, Home, and Trolls spinoff shows are 2D as well. However, DreamWorks Animation fully embraced 2D in a film again in the recent short film Bird Karma. 2D will always be king.

7:25 - yes, Tartarus was the ancient Greek realm of punishment, not chaos, and Eris didn't rule it. This movie plays very fast and loose with the mythology, mixing Greek elements (Eris, Tartarus, the Sirens, Cetus) with some from the tales of Sinbad from the 1001 Nights, such as the giant fish they thought was an island, and the Roc (giant bird).
@nikkan38109 ай бұрын
With the first "word of the goddess" Sinbad was actually the one to not fullfill the terms so she never actually lied XD

😉👍 This came out a year after Disney's "Treasure Planet" and for awhile, it looked like combining CGI elements with drawn animation was going to be a major "thing" in movies, but alas, it wasn't to be. Trivia: Originally, the casting director thought that Michelle Pfeiffer would be good as Princess Marina and Catherine Zeta-Jones would make a good Eris, but at their auditions, it quickly became apparent that it worked a lot better the other way 'round. 🏴☠ I rank this right up there with "Flushed Away" (2006) and "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" (2014) as being among Dreamworks' most underappreciated films.

I think my favorite subtle touch from this movie is that when Eris fakes giving her word, the makes the x/cuts with a knife- but when Sinbad forces her to give her word for real, she makes the gesture with her own hand. Nice subtle touch to it all.

I never saw this Movie, but i know something about Greek Mythologie. - Tartarus is both a Name for the Underworld (next to Hades) and a Titan. - this whole Thing is like a mix of the Odyssee and the Journey to the Middle of the Earth. - Eris is the Goddes of Discord. She basicly was the Reason for the Trojan War. - I dont think there was a Sinbad in the Greek Mythologie, i thought he was from Percia?

Could have been better though. They kept mentioning Fiji, which wasn't discovered until 1643, which was a few hundred years before the time period that this movie took place in. They would have had no idea about Fiji. Then there's the mention of those umbrellas in the drinks, again, something that came way later, including the part about women drivers. And let's not forget that they never mentioned why this book is so important. Yeah they did say it protects these 12 cities, but how does it do that? Why? From what? Who created that book? The gods? Priests? The lack of an explanation on the origins of this book opens up so many questions.

Except for some duds like The Boss Baby and Trolls for example, most DreamWorks movies are so freaking good. I dare say, even the worst DreamWorks movie is better than most recent Disney movies.

Eris's theme and the animation for her is so goddamn epic, I wish we had more Sinbad movies to continue this franchise. Mythology fact:Eris caused the Trojan War. Not invited to the wedding of Peleus and Thetis(the parents of Achilles(lol, ironic), she whipped a golden apple as a prize "to the fairest". The goddesses Hera, Athena and Aphrodite argued which one it was and they chose Paris, heir of Troy, to decide. Hera promised power, Athena wisdom and Aphrodite the most beautiful woman in the world. Paris gave Aphrodite the Apple and she made Helen of Troy fall in love with him, leaving her husband, who started a years long war to get her back.
