Fantastic Work! As a movie model/propbuilder just want to point out that the red stuff is spotting-glazing putty. Bondo is usually the gray/pink heavy paste that uses a catalyst. some people in the shop actually got so quick at applying Bondo filler with a plastic wedge that they didnt even need spot putty.

For the spaz sticks mirror chrome, if you have a hobby shop near you that sells rc cars, they likely will have it or can special order it for you and it will likely be cheaper. It can also come in a rattle can but the cans are small. since they are made for doing a couple of rc car bodys.

This is called a guide coat and lets you see where you haven't sanded. Works a treat as when all the black is gone you know you have finished !

Ur helmet file... is amazing. Gorgeous. Beatiful. Top of the line. I printed it using simplified 3d. I tryied something new. I rotated the model 45 degrees. Added supports. Rotated 45 in the opposite and did supports on the other side, so no supports from the plate. I avoided the middle visor support by doing 45s off the lips. Took 66 hours. But man it is the best I've seen so far. Finished the bondo part. Onto sanding now. Im going to try to paint it the same too. Great video!

Scale/Sizing Question: I purchased this file and I would really appreciate it if you could provide some advice for finding the best scale/sizing to use for the model before printing. It seems like the file for the helmet is scaled differently than the rest of the armor (which have all turned out phenomenally, by the way) - After a lot of trial and error, I settled on a 95.43% scale for the armor thus far, but doing the same for the helmet makes it look like a bobblehead when I line them all up virtually within Cura. I'd like to measure twice and print once, so is there any help you can provide?

For future people that have this same question. I sliced the helmet file just above the visor and printed a small 5mm high section to make sure it would fit on my head and resized from there. The one gotcha with mando helmets is the cheek indents, which are smaller than the head part. So, you want to cut and test print a 5mm high section from there as well.

Recently purchased your stl file for this build. I noticed that you added padding to make this fit. What percent did you print this helmet at? Also, I noticed that within your "Separated" files, your "Top Left" and "Top Right" ear pieces are much larger and not proportionate to the helmet base file. This makes it difficult to print the Separated version, since I will need to resize myself until it's just right.

Good vid man. I do body work on cars and use the 'red toothpaste' every day. Might i give some suggestions? Hope to maybe make it easier for you and maybe take less steps. You could probably up the grit to 180 from 120 and use the 180 to get high/uneven spots flat with a sander. You could then take some 400grit and use that with water to wet sand it even smoother by hand. Make the bondo as transparent on the helmet as you can only leaving it in the lines. At this point before the primer goes on is when i would suggest looking over the helmet really well and add maybe with a small flexible bondo spreader more bondo in the spots needed. Pulling the bondo fairly 'tight' to the surface so you dont have globs or excessive thickness. If you do tight pulls you will be able to simply 400 wet sand the areas with out having to return to such a harsh grit. How deep are the printer lines? Ive never seen such a big object printed before. With it 400 wet sanded it should provide a very smooth surface then when you prime it it should be near flawless. You should then be able to lightly sand that 1 coat of primer with 600* grit wet or dry. Remove the dust fully(blow it off and then microfiber it) and its good to paint. * Cars are only brought out to 600grit before paint is applied. It should be enough for your helmet especially if you do it wet. 1000grit may not be needed. Also if you use an HVLP spray gun it might help you as well. It will help you with quicker coverage, a more uniformed look(not that yours wasnt but with an airbrush like you were using it takes much longer to get the desired look) and you can use the 1 gun for all the paints providing you clean it out properly in between. The cheapest gun ive ever used that surprisingly can put out a decent finish is a $15 harbor freight HVLP gun. Be worth looking into if this is something you are doing a lot of. Dont know if this might help you at all but i dig the helmet man. Good work. I mean if you live in FL and would like some help on another one...

What size print area does this require. It would be nice if you noted the required print area for each of your helmets, so we could determine is our printers can hand it or not, before buying the files. Thanks.

Looks really great. But how's the breathable quality? I was thinking that drilling out a few slots on the ear pieces might help evacuate humidity inside it. Also, what about the visor fogging up?

What gloss black backer did you use? I used a high gloss Rustoleum black rattle can 2x paint & primer and then applied the SpazStix. Came out beautiful and looked amazing. Unfortunately after a few months I started getting black spots all over. I did the full armor too and they all getting that spotting and got worse over time. The only thing I could guess is that both paints contain acetone so the paints just ate each other. I haven't recoated them and it's not as shiny anymore but the black spots aren't bumps or craters. The surface is still smooth. Not sure how to repair it or just sand it all off and start over.

Excellent Skill, working with your hands, and your creativity. those are very similar to the steps that they took when building the actual Mando parts. they had the plastic injection molding with proper RGB color specs.....but you are really good at this. keep up the good work. Film crews are often looking for creative Talent...such as yours.
