From a neurological standpoint, the fact that she can fluently speak 4 languages, and sing in 8 more makes a lot of sense. When you learn several languages, your brain is much more interconnected, and it simply adds up with how much emotion she's able to pull into every song

The greatest female vocalist of all time. She ranks among the legends like Mariah, Whitney, Celine, Streisand with her emotionally impactful renditions. But what puts her far and away at the top of the vocalist mountain is her ability to belt them in 12 languages-all with the same emotional intensity. Are you kidding me!!!!!! All professional singers and coaches unanimously agree she’s the best. And add to the mix she’s co-written some legendary songs like “ Broken Vow” and “ Adagio” How many languages can Mariah, Celine, Streisand belt them in ? Huh? 2 ? I rest my case. Al

I'm a huge fan of Laras, I like Céline, Whitney Houston and Barbra Streisand. I don't like Mariah Carey. Even through I love Lara I think you aren't fair: Lara speaks French and Italian as mother languages, so it's easier for her to pronounciate Spanish and Portuguese. His father speaks Dutch (Flemish) as his mother language (besides French). She speaks English from an early age. She was exposed to several languages since a young age, so it's easier for her to pronounciate other languages even those she doesn't understand because her brain is well trained already. Céline started to learn English when she was 20, I think, and it's way more difficult to learn a language as an adult than if you're a kid and she was monolingual until then, and she speaks English fluently (her accent is a bit more acentuated than Lara but it's understandable because what I said before). As for Barbra Streisand I don't know if she's monolingual or not. I think Whitney and Mariah were/are monolingual, but I don't know. The majority of americans are monolingual and Whitney Houston came from a poor family, so I don't think she knew any language besides English. Mariah's mother is (?) was (?) an opera singer, so I suppose She got used to hear Italian, German and French (the main languages of opera), but I don't know. So I guess it's easier for Lara. Of course if people don't find interesting to sing in other languages, then they don't even try.

I grew up with both and they are good in their own rights but I always had a little soft spot for Lara because her voice is more well rounded and she is a brilliant storyteller. There's something amazing when people write their own song, they convey far more authentic emotions. Celine in my opinion was pushed pretty hard by a massive money making machine orchestrated by her husband. She knew the recipe for a hit song, she never allowed herself to experiment much and was to nasally for me. Lara's music is more soulful, it reaches your soul and it's healing. I STILL decades later get chills when Lara since Je suis Malade. I had made an art project way back in high school with one of her songs. Heck, I'll even say Ginette Reno is a better storyteller than Celine. I think it depends what people resonate with but I love a brilliant storyteller with epic vocal range. She's a beautiful, talented smart women. Celine is also very awkward and over the top like a child who needs all the attention in interviews, I'd rather watch Lara..lol

I'm Belgian myself and an English language teacher. Lara IS amazing, she's a wonderful, fantastic singer and very talented language-wise, but I can probably give you some background on why her languages are so great. She was born in Belgium, a small country that has three official languages: German, French and Dutch. Because we are so small, we've been forced (historically) to speak other languages to communicate with those around us. So, there's a sort of historic, and I suspect a genetic aptitude for languages there. Also, her father was a native Dutch (a Germanic language) speaker (like I am), her mom a native Italian speaker (Romance/latin language) and she grew up speaking French (another Romance language). That combination of growing up listening to both a Romance and a Germanic language is 'Language Gold', because they are such completely different language systems, sound completely different. (Yes, there is definitely an overlap in vocabulary between Germanic and Romance languages, but that has to do with William of Normandy 1066, and all that, and I won't get into that ;-)) For most French people it is very hard to filter out the French sounds when speaking English and vice versa. For native Dutch speakers it's easier because there are more similarities between the language. It's probably one of the reasons her English is as clear as it is. Also, maybe because her granddad was American, and she's lived in Canada for so long, of course ;-) Anyway, once you speak one of the Romance languages like French, you can easily hop to the next Romance language. I speak French (we're taught it at school from the age of 7 or so), and can therefore decipher much of written Spanish/Italian (of course not all! ) Because I speak Dutch, I can understand 80% of German, and had a headstart on English. How she does Russian, Turkish,...all those other languages, I have no idea other than she must have 'an ear' for them like she does for music.:-)

Lara Fabian is one of the greatest vocalists worldwide. I'm glad more people worldwide are exposed to her amazing voice. I think it's her classical training and European schooling - aside of her multilingual upbrining. Once you know a couple languages, it is always much easier to learn more. And language is essentially a matter of imitation, aside of learning grammar and vocabulary. I think people with musical skills must have a better understanding of pronounciation etc. I would not be surprised if she did not know how to write in some of these languages at all, even if she mastered basic vocabulary. Check out Saara Aalto who sings in 34 languages - also a European classically trained singer.

@samhartford83885 жыл бұрын
Can I suggest that you listen to Saara Aalto singing in 34 languages. That is not because Saara would be a better vocalist than Lara Fabian, because she is not, but because you can understand what is the background of European vocalists: They, first of all, learn a number of languages (on top of where they come from individually) as a part of their vocal/music degrees. Then, once one learns a couple languages, one is capable of learnig another dozen that inhabit the same linguistic source. Learning a language is quite dependent upon learning a type of melody on top of learning grammar. The actual source words are often common. After that, as a singer, comes the ability to pronounce vovels in their tonal specificity.
@KiwayneJacobs5 жыл бұрын
Because you must realise by now I always rewatch your videos. I'm not sure if you're making the comparisons here between Dimash and Lara. The fact that they sing in many different languages. But also, the composer/writer that is playing the piano in a few of her videos (Bald Russian guy named Igor), is a famous writer who has been writing for her for years. He came out of retirement recently and has been managing Dimash, who has been doing a lot of performances in Russia recently. Also, all the songs Lara performed in this clip with Igor, Dimash has performed them in recent weeks and also shot a music video for Love of Tired Swans. Igor is currently writing music for Dimash.
