It's been a long time since I've watched this performance. Mariah's voice during that era was so full of texture. It's so beautiful to see how far her voice can go in terms of smooth or rough, soft or hard. I know people get extremely shocked by her lows and highs but what I appreciate the most is her ability to work with different colours on her voice. I read that she hated doing day time talk performance because they record these show so early the same day the air. She is not a morning singer and you can tell her voice drops like 3 octaves but at least she brings it up when she is struggling. And still delivered

almost seems that with her vocal ability declining she got more creative and added more feeling into the songs. Did notice in this particular performance ( beong before using pitch control/ autotune) she was just 2 percent sharp in the beginning. But then at high notes she hit them.

1999-2000 Rainbow Era. The first chorus with the silky falsetto parts were partially lipped and so was the climax. She was really hoarse during this era. The last past that you said was "slightly off" was her singing with the recording and being tired. One of my all-time favorite songs of hers, so I know the recording vocals inside and out.

This is 1999/2000 aka the Rainbow era and many fans consider this era a decline in vocals because her voice doesn’t match the fullness of 1995 and before. But she could still sing her ass off! Everybody dismisses this era unfairly but they’re missing the point that her singing style changed by adding in more whispery tone and rasp and it’s okay. Also she looks like she enjoys performing in this era more and to me that’s more important: whether she’s having fun or not

I hope you know that you are my favorite, like my absolute favoriteperson on KZbin, when I first would quit going other people videos I hated it with a passion, because the way they would have a list it, was as if you were just watching the singer perform, not watching people critique it or whatever, but from the first time I ask dently clicked on my knee your videos, I literally fell in love with them, and your voice, is nothing less than God Giving Talent, which I feel like is so much better, and so much more important, when it comes to doing these critiquing reaction videos(or whatever, the Sam Hell you call it),because annoying actually how to sing, you know how to judge fairly, and how to support people that you know cuz saying but might have totally a bad performance and be struggling during it, and the media wants everybody to completely write them all, act like, this is their voice now, and, is always going to be like this, instead of, being supportive of the artist, that you have been supporting, and loving their music, for years and years, and you will let all that go down the drain, and 2 seconds, because you get more out of, making a video go viral,or absolutely stocking the stars, and reporting negative things out of their personal life, or by bashing, and saying, things like, take Mariah for example, did you see Mariah's horrible horrible performance at the VH1 awards?, Instead of "Did you see Mariah Carey's VH1 performance?, I've got to give it to her, because she's a powerhouse, but probably should not have been performing, because she was a very very hoarse, as well as not feeling good, and it made her struggle, and she was an able to get the performance, that she would have a like to have given, that has to be the worst thing ever, when people love you for your voice, and its the one thing, that you cannot give every single time, because you're human, and can get the common cold, as well as the flu, but like a true champ, she stood there, through it all, and finish it did the whole song, feeling absolutely horrible, and as we saw, her voice was very hoarse, and still she did her show so kudos to you Mariah", so like you actually know that, you're not someone who cannot sing, and knows nothing about lyrics and vocals, so we have somebody critiquing that actually knows what they're critiquing about, and I think that's why I'm a whole lot of people like you and fuck with you the way that they do, I would never put watching your videos ever, they are always great and on point, even if it's not a good performance, you be absolutely a hundred percent honest, without feeling they need to get laughs off of their pain.

In my opinion, the climax and most of the song sounds prerecorded, sometimes in chunks. I loooooove Mariah but I think I recognise the damaged/unstable voice and how she dubbs or lipsyncs, yeah pure artistry and diva, but mostly prerecorded.
