I was there in the audience. She did it three times, she sounded better in real life. In between takes she was doing whistle warm ups, and singing Michael Jackson rock wit u with trey. The background is the Backing signers on top of Mariah layers. I saw her so many times during the Charmbracelet era, and her whisper and whistles were just so fluid and flexible. She was at second peak.

Come to think of it before anybody comes for me the background singers are definitely lip-syncing I dont think this performance is lipped but she is definitely using playback for the background vocals not to say that her background singers arent good they are some of the best but they definitely werent singing in the performance.

Mariah Carey sings background on the Trey Lorenz album and there are songs where it sounds just like Mariah and I thought she was singing background but it was Cindy Mizelle, Audrey Wheeler and Trey Lorenz. I even compared them with Mariah on Someone To Hold and without her on Run Back To Me and Baby I'm In Heaven, it sounds just like Mariah alone. There are singers who can sound like Mariah. Even songs were Trey Lorenz and Mariah sing background together sound like Mariah solo.

Rhett Mitchell yeah that’s my point. She lips 99.9% of the time. The other current performances count as the 0.1% and even those performances have certain parts that are lipped. Even her Grammy performance in 2006 when she still had 70% of her voice for her comeback, certain parts were lipped. I used to ADORE Mariah but she’s just not a true performer anymore. Even a drug addict Whitney gave LIVE performances during her last years, even when her voice gave out because she’s a TRUE singer. Mariah is just riding on her name now and it’s not impressive. Thank God for Mariah’s greatest hits that I can reference for memory.

Honestly, it doesn't really matter whether this is lip sync or dubbed. It's still her voice regardless. To lip sync she has to sing the song in the first place, that already proves she can sing this for sure. Where other singers can't even sing this in the first place. She even did this song live in other performance right so why doubt her talent. She has already proved to us so many times why she is a "vocalist" just because she lip sync doesn't mean she can't sing we all know how her vocal condition can be on certain days.

Her backing vocals on the charmbracelet album were killer during this era. I know some people say they don't like as her vocals seemed more screechy on this record but she didn't sound that far off from the rainbow era here there were so many complicated runs, riffs and belts I couldn't even keep up with and then she dropped Charmbracelet and it sounded almost the same but on a whole different level and standard. One of her most creative albums to date in my opinion!
