yes dean has flaws but it is wrong to be un-empathic towards the fact that dean is clearly depressed and broken. With everything Sam and Dean went through in mind it isn’t surprising that that would happen. They have their flaws but they are human. They are not immune to the pain that they constantly get slapped with.

Bro, when I say that this post-reaction discussion was definitely the best I've seen in a minute, I mean it. That shit was so funny; it had me actually dying lmao. Every time we see some abnormal side of Cas, whether it be alcoholic or hungry, the way he acts is always hilarious. Dean made a super tough choice at the end, but I liked that he went back to talk to Lisa, even if only momentarily. He really feels like there's no other choice, and that is super tough. I find Dean saying "when I do _picture_ myself happy" very telling. He craves normalcy & a white picket fence life (hence his djinn dream) but he has no reference point for it, he hasn't had a normal life since he was 4. His one & _only_ serious girlfriend was Cassie back in his early 20s When he _imagines_ being happy, he pictures Lisa. Not because he loves her, but because she fits in with the 2 dimensional cardboard cut-out fantasy of "normal" he wants so bad He doesn't even tell her he loves her here

Back when this episode aired, no one got where that ending was coming from because the writers just sprung this "Dean being in love and wishing he could be with Lisa and Ben" storyline. They introduced her as a one off episode, but the writers thought they needed to give Dean a love interest so they could build up emotional drama. When Jensen was asked about that he even admitted that he didn't know where that came from because it didn't make sense to him. They should have brought back the only female he admitted to loving, Cassie. I wasn't feeling this "jump the shark moment."

Why is it that when Dean expresses how he's feeling or makes certain decisions, he's seen as selfish, whereas when other characters do the same thing, they're praised for it? None of these characters and their decisions are as black and white as y'all try to paint them as. Both brothers at times can be selfish, unlike Dean, Sam's isn't as in your face because Dean's is usually surrounded by tougher decisions. On the other hand, I do feel that both brothers can be selfless at times, too. It's all on perspective and how you feel about these characters. Anyway, this episode was ok. Castiel was comedy gold and poor Dean, you can tell he's given up on everything and everyone. His last hope let him down and his depression and defeated attitude is the result of it. I had forgot that this was the episode that Dean was set on saying "yes" to Michael, hence why he was able to kill The Whore. And Dean's final goodbye to Lisa is why I always say he's hands down one of, if not the most, humanized characters on the show. Everyone's hollering that it's selfish, when in reality it's natural for humans to take that last chance that they have to express to those they love how they feel and what they mean to them. And yes, he's left Lisa with a lot to think about and has her worried and confused, but he plans on saving the world. So again, not so black and white.

Quite honestly, the declarations in the last episode, calling Dean selfish made me pretty sure I was done with this reaction channel. Then I came to the comments of this one first, without watching the reaction to see if they were still being stupid about these intricate, layered characters, and reading your comment (and others) tells me they are. So, I'm officially done with these guys. In the past, they been really frustrating and annoying at times, with the black and white way they look at these boys, and this was just the final straw. To look at a character like Dean, who is struggling with the burden of being in pretty much a no-win situation, who then decides to give up his life to try and save the world, and call him selfish is just unbelievable to me. And just more proof that they absolutely DON'T understand this show or the characters. If you wanna say Dean is feeling hopeless, yes, misguided, yes, heartbreaking, yes. But selfish? Stfu. Exactly, Dean wants Lisa to know what she and her son mean to him. There are things in life that Dean wants and lost out on due to his childhood being taken away from him. It's not always about Sam. And yeah it's definitely selfish because he drops this bomb on Lisa and leaves her. But this also makes Dean a complex character. Any character that always does everything right and doesn't make mistakes or bad decisions is probably paper thin to begin with.

I mean yeah Dean is going through something and he's not talking to anyone about it. Imagine your Lisa, just chillin, you haven't seen the man who you still have feelings for in months, you tuck in your son, and all of a sudden he knocks on the door, says he loves you, and that something big is happening and he's making plans with people who will keep her and her son safe. That's so jarring. I understand being sorry for her in that moment. She hadn't seen him in months and now she hears that he is doing something that means he might die, and that her and her son are in danger. I still feel for Dean but I understand feeling for Lisa.

And rational thinking would make you wonder why and how he was able to. It wasn't a lack of faith in dean that caused Sam to think and ask if dean would be thinking of doing something stupid and/reckless like saying yes to Michael. It's a logical deduction of reasoning.
