I am sad to hear that people get upset with you for "making patterns work." Honestly, that's part of the crochet process and we have ALL done it. You have been so incredibly kind, vulnerable, and brave to show us your process with these patterns. I am with you--these patterns make no sense sometimes. I am so grateful to you for showing us these patterns, this crafting history and the being my 'virtual crafting buddy'. I turn your videos on during the work day and they bring me so much joy. I doubt this comment will mean much, but I really hope that others' negativity doesn't diminish your confidence. You are amazing.

You’re not from the 1800’s so no one should expect you to know and understand every pattern from that time period. Don’t you let anyone make you doubt yourself! It’s beautiful!

Patterns of that time were written in a way that assumed you knew what you were doing, and with what was available at the time. Modern day has instructions for folks who are beginners trying advanced patterns, and the yarn types/material and vernacular has changed. I've worked antique patterns for living history events, and they're can be a challenge. I had to modify an 1848 hairnet pattern so it was completely stretchy and the join was hidden each row.

Thank you for doing this challenge and your videos. They have done studies that it is scientifically proven to be harder to perform tasks while someone is watching you and that includes on camera, so solving problems like these vintage crochet mysteries while on camera is doubly difficult than just trying to make them work while alone. I'm sorry people have been giving you a rough time for not understanding the pattern or making it work. Any crochet or knitting pattern is about making it work: modern and vintage. All any of us can do is follow directions to the best of our ability.

Most definitely do,not allow mean negative ugly ppl dictate how you crochet!!!! The fact that you can take these old, non-standardized patterns and make them available, and help us learn how to interpret them, is an amazing super-hero act for those of us that love all things crochet!! You help make, what’s difficult for-me at least, and I’m sure many others- jumbled word salad, into something comprehensive. You’re amazing!! Dint forget that!! And to all the nasty, negative ppl giving you grief -- if they were SO amazing that they can criticize and critique your work, then they can put their money where their mouth is and do their own crochet channel!! Until then, they are just a bunch of …………… (you can apply your favorite adjective)! Thank you for all the research, time, effort, and hard work, bringing the past alive! They created such beautiful, delicate work. Be proud of what you do!

Corinna, your channel has been a blessing to so many of us who are so curious about antique patterns, but just have no clue how to jump the gun! I myself have struggled with written instructions my entire life, so much so I'd have to ask for help. People treated me like I was stupid for not understanding and needing assistance. However, the moment I'd see somebody do something once, I quickly picked it up and could do it on my own. So trust and believe that I'd never be able to crochet anything if it weren't for KZbin!! No matter what year we're crocheting for, you help guide us to a beautiful creation. I find your confusion relatable and your adaptability and creativity for finding answers that work for you beyond admirable. Instructions can be daunting and make one feel like it's the only way, so I applaud you for thinking outside the box!! If it were me doing the same thing in front of a camera, I'd just be crying and lost and never upload a darn thing! 🙃 You do so much and more, Corinna. Don't let the few loud haters drown the voice of the many of us that love your work. Where I'm from, we have a saying: "déjalo pelear solo" which means, just leave them fighting by themselves. 😂 My great grandparents also used to say: "El que tiene boca, no manda a soplar el fuego", those who have a mouth don't tell others to blow the flame. Those people who have the capacity and knowledge to do things and are able to do it on their own, but don't out of their own comfort and expect others to do it for them the way that they want it. If anybody doesn't like the way you do it, by all means let them pick up a camera and show us how it's done! 💅💁 At the end of the day while we came for vintage crochet, we stayed for your charming personality, relatability, and passion for the craft. Thank you so much Corinna! 🎉💖🧶

You must understand, I'm out of my flippin' head...given the time of year, my production schedule is completely full, but I accept your challenge. I pictured it as I read the pattern, and this is going to be great! It should work up fairly quickly; I know I don't crochet for speed, i go more for accuracy, and trying to live up to any speed goal in the pattern's name (a five-hour doily, a weekend afghan, etc.) has me looking for another pattern. You did an excellent job here, as always; I just wish one of us were there with you to offer moral support on the spot. Crochet is not for the faint of heart...

Good morning from southcentral Kentucky. What a great way to start the day! 1847 …… my goodness. I wonder about 2 things: would crochet hooks and thread have been affordable for regular people during that time period? On a personal note…..Were my great-great-grandmothers crocheters? My great-grandmother Gertrude had to have been because her 3 daughters were.

Corrina, I really hope that you don't change a single thing about your channel! One of the things I enjoy most about watching you is that you don't hesitate to change a pattern that isn't working to make it work for you! I don't know how many decades I'd been crocheting before I realized that I could change a pattern to make it work for me. I had to grow up and accept that all patterns aren't perfect. I imagine that anyone who expects to see a vintage pattern followed EXACTLY can find a different channel that will provide them with that. No reason for you to have to change - those people simply need to change what they watch. YOU ROCK GIRL! I think you nailed the useful carriage bag! Love those colors! Your challenge sounds fun, but I'm too busy right now cranking out candies and cookies quickly so they will be fresh when given! Can't wait to see what others make from your mystery pattern!

Oh my goodness!😃 I love what it turned out to be! Those sorts of things are so cute, and I think yours turned out cute, too. 💝 I’m so sorry you’re losing confidence. These patterns are challenging. Even when you have a picture and know what you’re trying to make. Many of the patterns lack enough clarity and may be written and done differently than you’re used to. You’ve proven again and again how difficult that can be. And sometimes something just doesn’t dawn on us, or takes a while to, that might be obvious or easier for others to realise. It happens! On top of that, there’s internet commentary that can cause and compound things. And I understand some people’s desire to see the use of a pattern as it is, but also I understand trying to make a pattern work, work better and to your preferences, and to adapting it. I don’t think either perspective is necessarily wrong, more so different. (And also, your channel, you get to decide!) I enjoy seeing the patterns and what you make of them - mistakes, adaptions, and all - and I find you inspiring. Lots of love to you. 💖💖💖 ….OK. Starting the challenge without reading it through, doing what I think is the full first scallop and trying to figure out how to proceed, then reading more of the pattern, I think I’m done trying. 😂 That looks like quite a challenge you chose for us! It looks confusing and a bit much for me. Good luck to others who try it!🍀

Honestly, I really like when you make a pattern work in your own way. I like to adapt patterns and maybe design my own so your tips are very useful. Please don't listen to the complainers. Your items usually turn out beautiful even if sometimes they don't match the pattern exactly. I'm kind of tempted to try the challenge out. It seems like a small item and quick to make. I'm guessing a cuff...

Sweet girl, you really need to do you! Don't worry about the negative nellys that don't want to handle you "just making it work". They are all more than capable of following the words in the pattern and working it the way that works for them. You can't please everyone all of the time! Remember that. And if it is taking away from your confidence, then you really need to not listen to them!! You are doing great. You have been and you will continue to. You go girl!!!!! You got this 😊

I made this pattern with you..I didn't like all the ends so I also fudged it..but I was able to bury the ends by doing the decreases at the beginning and the end

Yes...they just wanted you to cut the thread at the end of each round and weave in the tails.

You should be confident in your work because your work is beautiful. I am of the firm belief that they would have just made it work. That is how they did things during that time frame. Your work is beyond amazing!

Just an idea... you could work front loop only when you have turned the work then it would be "back loops" on both sides.

Anybody who gets upset with you....send them my way and I'll bop them right on the nose! It's amazing how the wording of a pattern can throw you completely off. You do such beautiful work, and your channel is one of my favorites.

Next time, when trying to keep to "back loop only" on the return, just work in "front loop only". Same effect, less cutting and weaving! Oh, and, a carriage bag needed to be small because you kept little things you may need for the ride from one place to another, such as a handkerchief, or whatever vials you carry for your health. Gosh! What a time that must have been!

Love it already 2 minutes in. Love your yarn choice, the colors are beautiful. I am working on a jumper or cradigan (not final decided jet) and my colors are some what simular.

Challenge accepted! I gave it a try and had to go find the source material and I’m not convinced that the instructions are all there, because my sample came out looking a little messy. The pattern seems to be like the ones for the two earliest patterns you did just recently that required a bit more “context.” I know what the finished product should look like, but have no clue how to get there. I hate Victoriana sometimes. 😂
