I'm running a Rio 180 and really don't understand the comments about the filter being bad. The foams have a massive surface area (even bigger in this tank) and also plenty of space to add a box of nitrax media if you want more biological area. Pipes outside the tank are not for everyone! A few tricks I've learnt over the years, stack two of the top floss layers and just peel one off for a swift clean. The standard filter grids do not stop shrimp but you can get a cover. You can also temporarily put a small square of kitchen roll partially over the top inlet to make a strong skimming effect that works in a few minutes. Great tanks imo and the fish look happy!
@DanielKeepingFish3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Chris for the comments and the tips. I set it up with the sponges that came with it and as you say there was plenty of space for the bio-media I ripped out of the canister I had been using before I switched the tanks over. I've been running it for just over two weeks now. Early days but so far I can't fault it. I'm definitely going to tinker with the media placement so I'll probably look at your suggestion of the top floss as one of the options.

Hi Daniel. I’ve just got the 240. It’s cycling at the moment. How did you find the filter? I changed the internal aspects of the filter after watch Filterpro. I’ve Added media and bacteria gel balls. etc. I’ve only three moors to add to mine (their quite big now, hence the tank upgrade) so I think I’ve well enough room for them. Is that enough room? Can I ask how long you cycled this prior to adding your fish please? Love the scaping! Beautiful fish. Thanks for your channel 😊
@DanielKeepingFish3 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for your kind comments Julie. I'm still tinkering with the filter to see how I like it best. I don't think it's horrible as standard but I definitely feel like improvements can be made. I'm sure I'll make a video or two when I have some solid thoughts on it. I didn't cycle the filter as such. I took loads of media from an established filter in order to have it running right away. There was plenty of room for the sponges that came with it plus the large amount of bio media I moved from the other filter. I don't keep Goldfish but I would say that's plenty of room for three Moors. I would say the filter can handle that stocking too. I'd suggest testing the water conditions regularly with a test kit, that should let you know if there are issues at any point. Enjoy your 240. Hope your fish do too.

Great looking tank Daniel! I'm thinking about the Fluval 240 litre. Eheim Vivalines are also great tanks. Can you add your plants to the dry setup, spraying them with water and then add water. It seems to me an easier way of planting?
@DanielKeepingFish3 жыл бұрын
I've never done the dry start method mate but yeah I've seen lots of people get good results with it especially when starting with plants that have never been submerged since they don't have to adjust till they're doing well and you fill the tank with water. I belive as well as straying them most people cover the tank with clingfilm or something so moisture is retained inside for the duration of the method. I couldn't have done it with this tank if I wanted to since I had nowhere to keep the bigger fish whilst doing it. I basically bought a big plastic garden bin and put them in there with an air bubbler and a heater whilst we exchanged the tanks over but wouldn't have been okay for more than a few hours.

Hi mate. I've just bought the 350 version. Made a mistake and plants I've ordered are coming a couple of days before the tank. Can you advise on how I should keep them alive? I've also got 9L of soil and 55kg of sand for the tank - does this seem the right amount?
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
Yeah you should be good with the sand and soil you got. For the plants it depends on how they arrive. If they're tissue cultures or come in air tight sealed packet like the Tropica plants, if they look healthy enough I'd just leave them sitting somewhere that gets a wee bit of light till the tank comes. They can survive in those packets for a decent amount of time on the in the shop etc so they're generally okay for a couple of days. If it's plants that are just bagged up what I would do is drop them in a large bucket with dechlorinated water and a wee tiny bit of liquid fertiliser if you have any. If you're leaving them in a warm room where they'll get a bit of natural light through the day they should be fine for a couple of days. That's how I'd go about it. Hope it helps. Enjoy your new tank when it comes.

Also remove the tanks in the stand, its only designed to take the weight of the tank on top. Condensation from small tanks will cause top panel to warp and break.
@DanielKeepingFish3 жыл бұрын
I'm not too worried about this one. The lids on the tanks are pretty tight fitting so there is very little condensation. Add to that the back of these sections are open so there's loads of air flow and opportunity for any moisture to escape and I think I'm good. I've also placed support under the base so I'm not too worried about the extra weight of the tanks but I will keep a good eye on both of these issues and react if needed. Thanks very much for your recommendations.

So how heavy was it? did they deliver and bring the tank indoors for you etc? Im planning to get one maybe but not sure id have the man power for it.
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
Pretty heavy mate. Gonna need at least two reasonably strong people to help you possibly two. It was delivered by courier so even if they help you into the house with it you'll still need someone to help you get it in position once you've built the cabinet.

Juwel is better than oase ?
@DanielKeepingFish3 жыл бұрын
I wouldn't say better. Both are elegant very nice tanks. The Jewel is 450 litres compared to the 400 Oase. Plus I wanted the three cupboard spaces underneath, the Oase's is divided into two. Other than that it's down to what which of the two you prefer design wise really but like I said both are very nice aquariums.

You do know then red clips on the lid come off there are only there for traveling purposes so it don't break the glass there not part of the aquarium lol 😂 so after you take them red clips off there's no gap

Bro the fuckin filter don’t come out
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
No it's a build in system although people do remove them. I know that for sure because I have a spare one in my cupboard that someone donated to me after removing it from their tank. I'm not sure how they did it but looks like it's just held in with four spots of silicone on the right side panel of the aquarium. Perhaps you can find a video on KZbin or advice online on how to do it. Not sure it's worth it before you give the filter a go though. I find it works really well and doesn't look out of place.

@@DanielKeepingFish I have a canister it’s been in for 2 weeks so it’s time to take it out, but there’s 4 on one side in the front of the tank and 4 on the side of the tank so I can’t pull it out like a normal filter I dunno if mines different it’s the RIO240 duo or something like that but the gaps between the glass and the filter are so thin I can’t get a bank card or anything down there to pop the suction cups, btw sorrry for swearing in the original comment
@DanielKeepingFish2 жыл бұрын
@@GKZ_29 haha no worries. I was using an Oase Biomaster Thermo that I loved. I was half expecting not to like the Juwel filter and go back to the canister but I love it. Plus now I'm not living with the worry of an unexpected leak emptying a big tank of water all over the floor. Feel kinda guilty the Oase is sitting in my fish cupboard but like I said I'm pretty happy with the Juwel and there's none of the drawbacks of canisters. Maintenance is pretty easy too.
@fliptwinscool13092 жыл бұрын
@@GKZ_29 hi there, go to the pound shop and buy a pack of razors - take the full blade out the plastic casing - gives about 10cm and thin enough to fit between thefilter n glass- use a sawing motion as break if try to slice. Worked for me. No idea why they stick them on instead of using suction cups, would be nice to choose to use or be able to reposition.

I'll see how it goes. I'm done with canisters so I'll work with this for now. I'll make some adaptions over time and if I feel I need to I'll remove it and say you were right from the off. 😉

I've got the same tank (albeit a smaller version and in black). They are excellent and look great. I found the filter media a pain to clean as well. Switched back to my 206 and used a razor blade, 2 minute job 🙂.

@@stevenhammond4121 It was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I had a cycled 207 filter to use, so it was just taking up space.
