Early reviews say minor improvements. They better start doing reviews on giant screens to highlight what they can do better or projectors are going down to 100 and 115 inch tvs. At these prices, using 10 to 20k dollar projectors for anything smaller than 150 inches is insane vs the big screen tvs now. And I'm a projector guy. Was thinking about upgrading my projector to something like this but I think I'll be happier going from my 125 inch projector screen to a 100 to 115 inch tv for far less money and not needing perfectly dark rooms. This assuming that lower tier 115 inch tvs come out and get below about 8 grand.

Yea, to me, buying any projector above the NZ7(maybe even np5)for a small to medium-sized home theater setup is already significant diminishing returns. At $16-20k, the NZ800-900 should be pushing into commercial projector brightness territory.

Recall that getting a large tv (100 inch or larger) requires, if you want the tv upstairs or down, with no turns on your STAIRCASES. Then there is the weight and heat! So I think in these situations, a projector is still the best choice. The cost then is to your preference. I currently have a Sony 1500 lumen Sony 285es and it suits a 16 x 20 ft. room - but a bit brighter would be - nice! (Just saying.)

@@marvinabugov4579 Projector also still allow you to use a transparent screen, which is desired for many. I'm happy without. A 100" TV sounds awesome, but I cannot deal with the weight, if something were to happen needing to pack it up and return it or have it fixed, or sell it when I want to upgrade. But, they're crazy good value right now with contrast matching or beating the LS12000 which is impressive. They're not quite there to beat JVC yet, but OLED similarly large TV's exist, and those are prohibitably expensive.

The TV over projector arguments are increasingly compelling to me. But is watching a 100-115 inch TV in a fully dark cinema room really preferable to watching a projected image?

@@PinkoJack Only enthusiasts like us care about all these technical details. I am waiting on JVC to bring out a “laser” NP5 to replace my aging 2017 Sony 285es. After 2800 hours I put a new bulb in it at about 1/3 the original cost of what I was quoted by Sony a few years ago. So hopefully that will do until JVC makes its announcement in the next couple of months at CEDIA or before. As for projector cost vs light output, the issue now seems to be about “brightness” and “HDR” performance. There is a very recent comprehensive technical discussion about this on Projector Reviews / Phil Jones. I thought it an excellent presentation (found it last night) about why lower cost projectors can never make the grade until you get into high to ultra high-end light output projectors. For the rest of us, SDR will have to do. (Meanwhile in his upcoming reviews Phil will indicate which new projectors can handle HDR - properly.) I guess my point is: Does your family or guests CARE? What seems to get their attention is the size of the screen! At 1500 lumens, my 110 inch screen projected on to at 20 ft. has seemed to suffice for the last 15 years. This as compared to my 65 inch 2020 LG OLED with its near perfect black levels over the last 4 years. My family / guests see a difference between the two display formats, enjoy which ever they see while here - but don’t ruminate over it: “It’s nice - thanks for the show - bye! . . . or . . . look at the size of that projector screen! WOW! Just saying . . .

I purchased a new 2015ish era 4k eshift jvc projector from an authorized dealer right before HDR got standardized. Although it never had hdr, the picture on bluray and 4k hd discs was amazing. Unfortunately, after 7 years, the unit developed a terrible brightness flicker, or distortion. The picture kept raising and lowering brightness every 3 seconds and made it impossible to watch. The authorized dealer, nor JVC could even fix it. They actually said it was functioning as intended. Multi thousand dollar brick had to be sold for hundreds with full disclosure to the buyer. Had to go with a tv as a replacement, as i am now way priced out of the projector market. It is what it is. It was fun to be a projector owner for a time.

JVC has always been a high end projector but at this point they are straight luxury items for the custom install / dealer crowd. I could maybe understand the pricing if the lumens were a bit higher but $16,000 for 2700 lumens is tough. That really limits the screen size you can choose- especially if you are favoring HDR. I run a 120” 16:9 screen and can comfortable drive it in HDR on low power with my BenQ HT4550i (a $2800/3000 “3300 lumen”projector. I put 3300 in quotes because DLPs lumen ratings are a bit nonsense and the output from the BenQ is roughly equivalent to the 2600 lumen Epson 5050UB. Sony has the same basic issue as JVC but to a lesser extent. Their entry 5000ES is a $6000 projector that is rated for 2000 lumens- noticeable dimmer than the BenQ or Epson and yet over double the price. With large format (100”+) LCDs getting more and more affordable I really think we need lower cost projectors to hold the line for the tech.

You should look into buying used commercial projectors. Consumer projectors aren't bright enough.

Just an 8% improvement in brightness for the NZ800 I would think would be nearly imperceptible .

@audioholics --- Can you do a video on how the Gamepod 1.5 chair could be integrated into a movie/game room, either just using a TV and player or using surround speakers with AV receiver or using amplifier and pre-amplifier/processor? And wouldn't using multiple chairs make a difference?

“Hush boxes” are at extra expense and typically comes as an “unpleasant surprise” when the customer finds out the reality of his use case vs the projector fan. Last time I checked it was $1500+?

Given that JVC projectors are up to 5 times more expensive than some other very high quality projectors, and definitely NOT five times better, gives them the highest diminishing returns title...PERIOD!
