Bought Dali Spektor 2's for my computer, a year or two ago. Under 200€, they blew me away. Couldn't believe the quality, for the price... Though I will maybe buy a used Dali SWA-12 subwoofer, some day to compliment them... I just love them, excellent for gaming and even listening to music!

The speaker James is talking about is the LS3/5A. Most were made by Rogers. They were developed by the BBC. They weren’t very accurate.

I'm not the most knowledgeable in soeaker design, but I've always been curious about the components that accompany woofers and tweeters. So recently, I purchased some in walls through Amazon. Micca M-85 2 way with a 8" woofer and tweeter that pivots. Other specs mentioned are 12dB Octave and 40Hz-20khz crossover. They sound really good. I almost forgot, 100w, and 8 ohms. Any chance some of you guys provide an opinion of the speakers? It would be much appreciated.

Appears to be using the Dayton ND91 driver. Not sure what tweeter he is using

Hey Jason/Gene, I got out the calibrating game before local dimming was a thing, I still pursue it as an enthusiast but knowing that the Sony's are particular in how you calibrate them, I can't seem to get a straight answer to this question - do you turn off local dimming when calibrating? or keep it at the setting you use when calibrating? Any assistance appreciated. :)

You would need a passive pre to control the volume. The rear volume control is very awkward. Otherwise a great design.

Standard fare for studio monitors, use your PC's volume control or an audio interface (which also will massively reduce the noise floor compared to PC 3.5mm out)

I have been recommending a schitt stack or an Emotiva 100W stereo amp with a Paul Carmody Speedster build.

Fantastic! The people’s champ! It does get anymore cheap and cheerful than this! That long internal port is pretty rad. I think this speakers whole design ethos is going to send ripples through the industry.

Housekeeping: In your Description section you have the "Klipsch 8000F II" link listed under the Recommended Cables section. +++ I really like the idea of offering the speaker in kit form. I think the price point is pretty good for speakers of this quality.

I don't like the sound of Bose. It sounds fake and unnatural like the bass is artificially boosted and likewise the treble, with a dip of 'missing middle'. When I was in audio servicing, we called it the 'boom-tizz' sound. Thing is, a lot of casual listeners seem to think it's good...

No lies being told here. Gene is absolutely correct. I purchased this receiver 2 months ago and it is a beast. I bought it strictly for movies and it sounds amazing running my 5.2.4 setup.

Looks pretty awesome. I agree that my only complaint is that I wish they had digital inputs to avoid additional A/D conversions with the internal DSP.

I sooo want to replace my a3080 receiver and i really wanna know when the Aventage "B" series will be released? I also hope very much for optional Dirac Live functionality and return of the big front panel display :). I really can't stand A series tiny display... I even have the cash prepared for it :) Just make an 11ch receiver with Dirac and a big display please, and i'm buying it right away :)

Youthman - he's just out there to showcase his equipment but he doesn't know what he's talking about. He doesn't even know ANYTHING about series and parallel speaker wiring! Can't believe people are listening to this guy! I'd listen to TechnoDad rather. But when it comes to actual audio tech, Gene is the guy! Gene's the real deal ladies and gentlemen!

This was great thanks! All 3 of mine were not set to lossless! On my early 4K units apps is there but it is not under system. I also noticed I had audio set wrong to not get Dolby Atmos. Match needs to be off so it will select Atmos if available. Mine was set to Dolby Digital. Unfortunately I’m unable to run Ethernet but I have 1 Gig wireless so guessing it’s enough.

At my forums we have discovered that Dirac does strange things with the higher frequencies. Since its not using gated measurements Dirac seem underestimate the amount of high frequencies and add up to 10 dB to them! I cant seem to find this being discussed anywhere. Would be interesting to see more measurement results showing what the frequency curve looks like after Dirac have been used. In fact it would be interesting for all of these room corrections to see how well they correlate to the target curve. I see it as a big flaw with these systems that a control measurement isnt included after the corrections.

You can have crosstalk cancelation without the limitations with a nice vintage Carver Sonic Holography processor. I've got one in my home theater for optional stereo playback usage (multi-channel stereo operation with it enabled is a blast once you get every speaker perfectly aligned). I added it there about two years ago. I've had it for 30 years in my Carver AL-III with Carver C5 preamp system, however. It's awesome, but it does require careful speaker alignment to not cancel the high frequencies. There's also Lexicon's Panorama mode. Oddly, enough, I have that in my home theater too in the form of a Lexicon MC-1 plugged into my Atmos processor's 7.1 inputs in the home theater and a Lexicon DC-1 in my Carver system (main outs to the C5; the DC-1 handles the surround speakers). Believe it or not, even with the back/surround fill mode of Panorama, I find the sound quality inferior to Sonic Holography. It's not even close, really. Meanwhile, the Logic 7 mode is awesome (I use Sonic Holography on the main outputs in the Carver system, giving it 360 room wide surround sound with only 6 speakers (no center). The home theater is already 11.1.8.4 + optional SH and it's rigged to use the extra Atmos ear level speakers for large old school surround arrays in THX/Pro Logic modes (Star Wars like in 1977-1982). I use 25 PSB speakers and it's awesome.

....thanks very much..... I was trying Apple Music for the first time and wasn't overly impressed, apart from using my record player, I''d been using QOBUS for quite a while, and the factory setting on the Apple TV for Apple Music certainly didn't measure up....but making the change to lossless on the device has made Apple Music much more enjoyable.....cheers!

Hi Gene, do you think the Onkyo txrz70 would be a huge upgrade sonically and feature wise over a Denon avrx4500h? The Onkyo has the Dirac and might set up better fine tuning my system not having a dedicated home theater room and treatment ?

Yamaha speakers were highly under-rated bargains when they lowered their prices massively 20 years ago. I believe they were trying to get a piece of the new home theater market which would require more speakers purchases and therefore they were trading pricing for volume sales. Probably a low marketing budget and perception by consumers with the low pricing meaning not as good they didn't get a lot of attention. They have now reverted back to higher pricing to pay for the increase marketing and appeal to the audiophile price snobery.

Yamaha was the inventor of the sound bar for home theater surround sound with patented technology and I don't think they ever got the attention they deserved. Everybody else copied them with inferior technology.
