I'm hoping to get it on the bench soon. I'm knee deep in 3 Hitachi TRK-8190s at the moment 😂

Won’t be surprised if those horn-loaded tweeters are 80s “gimmick” piezo disks = they are inaudible with only the sound from the woofers at nominal volume, or are dead and need replacement. When I was repairing some boombox’s that supposedly had “4-way speaker systems” I noticed there was no sound from the tweeters = that they were dead and needed replacing so I measured them and found replacements on eBay, but when they were delivered and wired and fitted them they still had no sound - the treble coming from the woofers, I assumed they were an impedance mismatch/as I later read from an online audio forum that they were marketing gimmicks and didn’t work anyway - particularly if they were directly soldered to the woofer contacts & no crossover circuit.

The RC-M70 is the real deal. The tweeters are legit drivers 2inch, I think. But yes - a lot of piezo '4-way' systems started creeping in by the mid 80's. The JVC 680V and Sanyo M9805L are recent examples I've worked on like that. 'Game' speakers really! Although to be fair, some actually sounded ok for their price point. But not nearly as rich.

@@retro_restos - 🤗 genuine and not gimmicks ~ quite serious with them being horn-loaded, quite liked the look of the automatic program search for the cassette recorder and a mode switch for the analog meters ~ you can watch them “swinging” to the VUs when listening to the radio/playing a cassette
