But or Rent - Small Soldiers - • Small Soldiers
Joe Dante directed this satirical action-comedy about talking tech toys accidentally juiced-up with military microchips. After the defense industry firm Globotech takes over a small toy company, Heartland Play Systems' CEO Gil Mars (Denis Leary) gives the green light to develop a new line of action figures, requesting an upgrade to more realistic figures from Heartland toy designers Larry Benson (Jay Mohr) and fumbling Irwin Wayfair (David Cross). Mars wants toys that act like the ones in TV commercials. The results are fierce fighting figures, the Commando Elite, programmed to seek out and destroy the kindly alien-like Gorgonites. In an effort to make the toys as natural as possible, Benson inserts Globotech's most powerful military computer chips. Meanwhile, in quiet Winslow Corners, Ohio, toy-store owner Stuart Abernathy (Kevin Dunn) and his 15-year-old son Alan (Gregory Smith) are stuck in a failing business, so when Heartland truckdriver Joe (Dick Miller) stops by with the Commando and Gorgonite toys, Alan is convinced they will be hot sellers, commenting, "Maybe this store will finally make a little money." With blistering blows to their blister packs, the Commandos burst out, receive orders from their leader Chip Hazard (voice of Tommy Lee Jones) and ready for an all-out assault on the Gorgonites. When the Gorgonite leader Archer (voice of Frank Langella) begins communicating with Alan, it causes the Commandos to perceive humans as another enemy, simply by their association with the "Gorgonite scum," so an attack on the Abernathy house begins. Unfortunately, the Gorgonites can offer only limited assistance, since they have been programmed to lose. The film combines animatronics, puppetry, and computer animation. The Commando Elite voices include surviving actors from Robert Aldrich's The Dirty Dozen (1967), while the Gorgonite voices reunited several This Is Spinal Tap (1983) cast members. A dedication to Phil Hartman (the voice of Phil Fimple) after the closing credits features a brief Hartman outtake.

This one's quite underrated in my opinion. I actually find it to a rather clever movie if you start to think about how it's poking fun at the fact that society has tried to militarize the minds of people from very young ages. Even the film's marketing focused entirely on the antagonistic soldier toys instead of the peaceful monster toys.

YES! I WISHED THERE WAS A SEQUEL! There's also board games and video games too about it, I wished I had those toys, which one was your favorite? I like the black sniper and Chip Hazard, while I like Archer and the one that had to be fixed, Trapacon? But honestly I like them all. I also like the music and "Action". I also memorized just about the whole movie dialogue, that's how much I watched it as a kid playing with plastic toy soldiers.

This film is such an underrated classic! I just love watching this film as a kid, and I believe I might’ve had at least one or two of the figurines. It has action, a solid story, and a great talented cast! It is really such a shame that I did not get a sequel; maybe they might do a reboot, although it would have to be a very good one in order to compete against the Nostalgia this one. Jacob Smith, who plays Timmy, Chrissy’s little brother, was not Jack Banning in Hook. That role was played by Charlie Korsmo. Jacob did play the role of Jake, Baker in Steve Martin’s Cheaper by the Dozen 1-2 and Brian Riley in Disney Channel’s Phantom of the Megaplex. Two other films that I would love to recommend star the actors Frank Langella (Archer) and Tommy Lee Jones ( Chip Hazard): Cutthroat Island and Volcano. 👨🏼‍🦳🪖⚔️👹🏹💚💛🤎🖤

In case you're unaware: A fan-made Proof of Concept Trailer video was uploaded to KZbin on just over a week ago. It's title is, Small Soldiers: War for Nekron. The video has become so popular, it's been dubbed as the "spiritual sequel of Small Soldiers". Many are hoping that it's a teaser for a future movie or video game. If you're able to make any time, would you please do a reaction video? After seeing your reaction to watching the original, I'd like to see your reaction and hear your opinion on this video.

Heheh, I remember renting the VHS of this film from Blockbuster when I was a kid. The film ended right when the one Commando took a spin in the garbage disposal cause the VHS was wrecked somehow. Didn't re-visit it until years later cause I was terrified of the film as I could only remember not liking the design of the soliders and the scene with the one commando getting bifercated by the bike wheel just gave me anxiety. When I did return to it, I rented the DVD of the film from Blockbuster (before they went out of business) and absolutly loved it. It REALLY needs a sequel! I'd welcome it wholeheartedly!

I LOVED the movie as a kid, and I'm glad that you also loved it. I can't remember his name (Larry?)--but the guy in the purple suit with a yellow shirt, who put the chips in the toys to begin with was totally William Afton from Five Nights at Freddy's before he was a thing... My brothers and I would watch the movie all the time, and attempt to play the PS2 videogame--horribly. But it was still fun. Both my younger brother and I were too young to say "Small Soldiers" right, so we would just say "Small Soljins!" XD Plus we both had speech impediments to high hell (we would both botch so many letters, but my stutter/speed talking was even WORSE!), so that didn't help! I don't remember the plot of the videogame, nor do I even think we made it past the first level... We would just mess around with 2-player mode in some cave setting the whole time, dying a whole bunch of times! We never got bored, oddly enough! Those were good times.

I do a lot of cool things like games that have characters that look and move like the ones in the movie and some times the animations are even better and the characters!? well how can I say it oh yeah! You know Crysis the game! the only thing is that everything I make is only for my self or for my friends and brothers but they keep on telling me I should sell a lot of what I make or develop, Maybe one day but not just yet first I want to make some thing that is not just looks, If I am to make some thing that can be sold It has to be fun to play and not just for me but every one.
