To be honest I didn't do anything to even them out. I'm not to worried about it with them being so close.

Jason, you were moving those head studs from one side to the other... any chance you could do a video on case savers? Always wanted to learn how those are installed. What's your preference... 8 or 10mm? Danke!
@JWClassicVW
@JWClassicVW 4 жыл бұрын
That would be a cool idea for a video.... thanks for the comment... as to 8mm vs 10mm I guess it really depends on what size cylinders your running. If its like mine 94mm cylinders the 8mm with case savers are the only way to go. Pretty sure 10mm wouldn't fit right.

@@JWClassicVW When you say "wouldn't fit right" do you mean the stud or the case saver?

If you were to try 10mm on a 94mm cylinder pretty sure it wouldn't work. I'm not sure how big you could go with 10mm but I've never had an issue with 8mm chromoly studs.

Jason, why are there two sizes if studs. 8mm or 10mm?

Wouldn’t 9.6:1 be a bit high? I understand the higher cr will result in a snappier and more efficient engine but also creates more heat. What are your thoughts on the higher vs lower cr’s? Just curious.... love your videos man! Keep them coming! Are you running 94 in the engine?
@JWClassicVW
@JWClassicVW 4 жыл бұрын
Hey, what's going on brother, so yes 9.6:1 is a bit higher on the compression scale, but with my 2276 and Cam choice I could really go higher. This really comes down to a lot of different factors with the engine combo your working with. I'm not an expert by any means and take the advice of many of my local builders but in the end, do your research and decide what you think will work for your engine. For my combo: 94mm AA B Pistons (Sku VW9400T1S) CB 044 Heads 40mm Exhaust & 35.5 Intake (Running dual springs) FK8 Clone Cam from CB (2288) - Adv. Duration 308° - Dur. @ .050" 256° - Lift @ cam .378" - Lift w/1.4:1 .529" My Cam is the reason for the higher compression ratio, I will at some point bump up to 10:1 but I have some other upgrades to do first. Another factor is what type of fuel will you be running, I always run 92 or better with my 2276 and sometimes when I can find it I run ethanol-free gas (way better). Fuel again is an important part of your decision as it will help decide what kind of heat you are generating. Let's say I were to run say 87 instead of the 92, I would end up getting more heat from a hotter fire and also creating that pinging crap I hate but also more power. High octane doesn't really always mean more power just a cleaner burn. To get more power out of the 92 with my Cam I would bump up the CR. The problem that we start creating is heat... This is why I run the external oil cooler w/fan, filter, and slim sump. More oil to help dissipate the heat from my Lil monster. Sparkplug gap comes into play as well when it comes to ignition and heat along with your timing and a high power coil. You want to burn clean! Also, you need to factor in the elevation depending on if you are way above sea level where you live, here in Houston I'm at about 100' above sea level... so it really doesn't come into play. For fun let's say I was moving to Denver at 5000' or even just driving through. **Formula** 9.6 + (9.6 * .03 * 5) = 9.6 + 1.44 = 11:1 WOW!! I would need to find some race fuel... lol 👍😎👍 The way this works is for about every 1000' in elevation or altitude you need to add about 3% to your ratio based on the density of the air. I could go on and on brother but this is just a little bit of what goes into tunning your high power Air-Cooled VW, Airflow through the heads and exhaust, Carb set up... on and on... lol

I understand. Your car is beautiful by the way and I’ve been watching a lot of your other videos keep putting out some high-quality videos that some of us VW guys can use and appreciate!! I’m building a 1776 and I’m about to measure my deck height to calculate my compression ratio before I order my heads. Your tutorial was a big help!!!! People are very particular about their heads. Do you favor one over the other?
