@@JWClassicVW I have a 1960 which I’ve had for almost 30 years. I’m planing some sort of boosted setup or a swap on. It’s a single port. Any recommendations? I was considering Kompressor Haus or a RADesigns turbo kit.

if you are having a problems with it bottoming out change the stock stopper from bug to bus stopper they are taller and will stop it from bottoming out and you will leave much harder .

Before you send it back to the shop make sure your axles aren't bent and the axles move freely the other thing you can check is a warped rotor which would cause it to bind

Got an update on my project 40hp engine. Starting to rebuild it and got the new conrod bearings installed and torqued to the crank shaft. Got new lifters and crank bearings jugs and pistons from aaperformance. after reading up on these engines the tolerances were so tight, and they put these case halves together without sealant and the jugs without gaskets. Was confused by understand why when rebuilding these to use the sealant and gaskets which come in the new gasket kit. So, need to order the kit here soon to continue building it. I think it will run pretty good for an old 65 40hp with stock stuff back in it.

Hey Jason On my engine builds I have been putting in a windage tray . I like the idea of trying to keep most of the oil at the bottom of the case . Any thoughts ?

Say looked at your plug wires. They look off? Number 1 is in the back, then,4.3, 2 . Is this correct? I thought # 1 ,is in the front?

I know this comment comes late, but have you noticed you have enough space for the muffler inside the rear fender behind the tyre? That's where I was hiding my mufflers when I was building bugs 30 years ago... 🙂

Yes, measuring coil bind. If it's to tight you'll break the spring.

so far most people say 2 1/2 to 3 turns inital adjustment on big screw. but I can't find what the inital adjustment is for the little screw . Mine is a 1600 engine with rebuilt carb. It will run for about 30 seconds.

Thats 1 thing I always mess up, is adjusting the carb. Every time I try, I get a flat spot so I have to pay someone to do it

Hey there! This is the second bug turbo engine I have heard, as soon as someone slaps a turbo on them flat fours it stops sounding like a bug engine and more like a subaru engine.

Hey Jason. Just re watched this video and felt I had to reach out with a question it seems like no one can answer other than dropping the (not original) engine in my 1971 Super Beetle, which I think will have to happen. Fuel, air, spark and timing all good. Spark plugs look great, engine still won't start. Did compression check with calibrated gauge and we have cylinder#/compressions at 1/60, 2/0, 3/90, 4/30. Ugh! Thoughts?

That compression is toast, either valves aren't seating or the rings are gone.

​@lewisvenable9904 use dremel EZ511HP they fit perfectly in the intake and exhaust ports and then I cleaned up the chamber after its worn the 280 grit was enough to clean but not scratch.

The GB 5 speed is an Antiquated Design ! First you need to Engineer a 2275 cc Displacement ! The engine should be done by a Professional License , Certified Establishment ! Depending on what you are trying to Accomplish ! Start by using a 26 inch tall Back tire (215-65-15) Drag Radial ! Deploy a 4:12 ring, & Pinion ! Not a 3:88 ring & Pinion ! With a 4th gear selection that would work with your engine setup ! Not a .089 4th ratio for sure ! You have a full Body - GVW OEM VW ! This would require a Minimum 4:12 R&P to make this accommodate what you are trying to do ! Use a Genuine Main Shaft , Final Drive Ratios as well ! FTC,Scat, Paul Gaurd, Weddle , Liberty ,ERCO Etc ! NO (GB) - Welded type Main Shaft ! Example.s 3:44 1st, 2;17 2nd, 1:52 3rd , & 1:16 4th , Or a 3:55 1st, 2:21 2nd, 1:54 3rd, 1:18 3rd ! Utilize a 3:88 ! Only for a build like a Chassis Car, Bodied Dune Buggy, Or a Bug Convertible ? Remember we have All the Resources Today ! You just need to know where to Look ! Turbo Powered is Not the Select Choice ! Not Reliable Power Source ! Plus You make more power ! But you also adding unwanted weight to you Vehicle ! The More Turbo Preparation ! Will add more weight ! Thus you would end up the Same Issue ! Science . Remember are Fore Fathers did well ! With what they Engineered back then ! Sum it up ! Less = More Than ! Do the Math ! R, D.

I would use a copper head hammer to tap bearing dowls in it cases damage on the engin it causes litt or no damage to any parts on assembly .

You seem to have disconnected the vacuum from the carburetor but did not plugged the vacuum at the carburetor to set the timing. This is like tuning the engine with a vacuum leak!

......That upper vacuum line is a ported line......no vacuum thru it at idle........Vacuum lines below the throttle plate see manifold vacuum at idle speeds.........
