Thank you so much for your videos, I am a brand new hat maker and needed to learn different techniques and just the basics. After many videos I stumbled across you and am now your newest fan :) Keep up the great work I am a loyal watcher and can't wait to watch whatever you are making, I am a sponge lol. All the other videos I have watched merely give you a tease and not show exactly what they did, you are a breath of fresh air. I have subscribed and will now search you out, feeling stalked lol once again thank you!! Linda

Thank you for this. You know Southern African Americans and the English have this in common. We typically wear fancy hats or headpieces to church.

Two questions, if you don't mind! 1) I live in the US so millinery supplies are hard to find locally. Is there another wire that I can use? (Or do you know the gauge used in this?) I've been playing around with floral wire from the store but don't have access locally to actual millinery wire. Also, do you have any other ideas of fabric that might work with this other than sinamay? There are so many possibilities out there, but I wasn't sure if the same technique would work with another fabric as well. Thank you!

Spring wire and brim wire are both commonly used in millinery. I think floral wire is too thin to support the weight of hats in my opinion. Check out Petershams Millinery Supplies (www.petershams.com) and you will see the items I’m talking about. Fabric other than sinamay. You could use buckram but this would need covering with fabric. You could also use Jinsin or Pinokpok which is similar to sinamay but works completely different. ( I’ve never used Jinsin myself but hope to do so soon!) Or you could used straw. Either premade cones or braids which you sew together yourself

I’ll also add that sprung wire is not pliable so I would recommend using a wire similar
