Had the same issue with my truck, balance rates were off, I replaced fuel pressure regulator and no more fluctuation. Fuel knock is gone, BUT slight knock under load around 1400-2000rpm due to a 35min fill up a while back when I noticed this issue begin. So I bought the same ac delco fuel injector cleaner and with my fass165 lift pump it cleared all that fuel up and cleaned injectors. Knock on wood so far so good.

We do these at the dealership. I’d use a tech 2 to bump up to fuel pressure a couple times. Customers seemed to be pleased...fwiw you don’t need hose clamps on your setup as long as you have the right size hoses. One is under vacuum, and the other should have nowhere near enough pressure to push it off. If it does, you can forget injector cleaning because you got bigger issues cause the pump or injectors are bad.

I just replaced my FPRM on my lly this past wknd had the similar issue at idle would surge down to 3 and up to 6. After I installed it, truck had no more surge at idle truck runs so much better and good throttle response

Put two stroke oil in the diesel that’s what I’ve been doing for the past 3 years. I have one injector that runs 7.2 and another at 3.7 but when I use two stroke oil it drops to solid 1.7-2.3 range

I have a 2003 GMC Sierra 2500 HD with 6.6 Duramax and I'm the original owner which means I'm over approx 7K miles if GM recommends need done at every 50K miles which I have approx I have 57K miles on my truck odometer.

Pretty sure my injectors got cleaned when I was day dreaming about my unleaded Jeep engine that blew up that day at the the pump, filled my lbz duramax up with unleaded. I think I put 16 gallons in so I added a container of diesel treatment for lube once I realized what I did. To my surprise the truck ran great and I've put 40k on it since. Just kept the rpms way down.

I could be wrong but black smoke means you’re burning oil that escaped past the piston rings.

It’s the FPR. Also check your balance rates at operating temp +/- 4 in park, and +/- 6 in drive with foot on the brake.

I took off the fuel filter, dumped in 200ml of injector cleaner installed back, pumped in some diesel, started truck, ran at idle for about 45 minutes. The power is back and now it purrs like new one.

it works. fixed my off idle lag. thought i was losing tranny it was so bad. see how diesel is green? mine became amber ale after 20 min or so. also, after done you can hook up supply but leave return in jug till it gets 1/2 full. this removes all cleaner so it won't go back into tank. tosses a P0001 code. Just clear it with your reader. change filter also. also 3500HD is like 1hr 15

Hi, I have worked in GM dealerships here in Australia (late 80's) and have used Top Clean. It is a good product but I would think a little severe when it comes to the lubricity of the diesel given how quick it works. I use Lucas upper cylinder petrol and diesel additive with great success every second or third tank of fuel. In America you also have readily available FPPF, Fuel Power Power Fuel, this is a great dewatering and cleaning product for diesel fuel. I would recommend either of these two products for regular fuel maintenance. The FPPF will also kill fuel algae that can block filters.

It probably is your FPRM. I have an LLY with 230 thou. I run Marvel Mystery Oil in it. I put a small full bottle in the tank at just about every fill up. Never had any issues with injectors. Knock on wood. Good luck brother. Keep us posted on the issues.

Aparently on a 2018 Duramax L5p this method does not work as it has a lift pump. Tried your method today, and no matter what fuses or relays I remove, the lift pump still pumps fuel out the open fuel line, and the engine never starts.

Trans fluid will build deposits in your cylinders head and on the nozzles. The idea is sound though. Use two stroke oil instead. It’s designed to be burned and leaves no deposits. Cheaper as well.

Bro check your rail pressure and if your going to do the sensor might as well do the injection pump which comes with fpr cuz if injection pump is bad it will take the injectors with it .. And yes put lift pump for sure!!!

@@JWMontoya my friends 02 duramax has 200,000 miles. Original factory injectors replaced at 100,000 from Gm dealer under warranty. Truck has white smoke coming out of the exhaust and 2 out of 8 injectors hit plus 5.2 then go back down to 3.5 etc. Runs good but just the extra white smoke is the issue. It’s does surge up and down in idle. Do you think replacing the fpr sensor help or be possible issue?

Do you have a fass or airdog system? I run a fass 165, fass filters, and a cat filter in the stock position up front. Has cleaned up a lot of my fuel issues. I run standyne performance and lubricity (blue and purple), every fill up. 50/50 mix. Doing a good cleaning every six months will help too. You gotta keep that fuel clean, diesels dirty. To check injector balance always check when engine is up to operating temps...and in park...now when your in park look at your tach...if it is bouncing up and down a little it is your FPR...another thing just to be prevent..drain that fuel/water separator weekly..i have never like those sensors anyway..cause if a person doesn't,drain the filter..guess where all that water/rust particles go(When you get a Fass,you will have better filtration 2,microns)?straight to injection pump and then into the injectors..i know of people that dont drain there filters and it has taking out 4 injectors

JW Montoya I get you man but the good thing is that your injectors are outside the valve cover I wish mine were on my lb7 but thank God they still good and I’m good specs.. you have to make sure u drain your water separator on the lift pump frequently so that they won’t get any rust on the fuel lines or any part it has Steele lines. I also run the Kleene fuel additive and hot shot fuel additive and some 2 stroke oil not much but it helps a lot and some marvel mystery oil.. To be honest tho it’s helped my injectors stay healthy and fpr lubricated. My 02 LB7 Duramax is just about to hit 300k miles and it still runs great! No smoke no trouble starting and no engine codes thank God..
