Change CPU to an E5-2690 ($40) 32GB ECC DDR3 1600 ($50) and you have a solid base for around $200. Grab an SSD of your choice or a PCIe to NVME adapter (you just cant have the PCIe NVMe Drive as your boot drive. Remember, as you are looking down, the 2 far right SATA ports (SATA 0-1) are SATA 6, the other 4 on the right (HDD 0-3) are on the SAS controller and only SATA 3. If you need more power for the video card you can get a T5600 power supply as well as the T5600 power distribution board (that has CPU/EPS power for the 2nd CPU that the T5600's have) then grab a CPU to PCIe power adapter and you have two full 150w 8 pins as well as the 75w from the PCIe connection on the MB. I'm currently running a 3080 in mine.

It's amazing people can drive around with cars that loud. The cops would be all over them where I live in the Northeast! They get 1 warning MAX. Then, if they get caught driving it again, the car gets impounded and they lose their license for a certain amount of time.

God I wish that was true around here. People drive straight-piped trucks which you can hear for at least across the whole town, which isn’t a big town to begin with, about a mile length roughly. Try going to sleep at night when all you hear sometimes are people either racing their four-cylinder rice burners or drive their straight piped pickups past my house at probably double the speed limit just so their truck drives up to nearly redline and wakes everybody up at midnight. F’n ridiculous!

Fantastic video, thanks. This video and the comments tells the viewer everything they need to know about the T3600. Unfortunately as of late 2020, prices have doubled or more on Ebay and AMD's competition has forced Intel to offer 6-core 12-thread cpus at under $200. Also at the moment Microsoft is not enforcing restrictions on grey market license key reselling. If parts are available, the value is now in building new not buying used.

In this case it’s the Sandy bridge variant which is v1, easily differenced from the v2 because it only has 8 cores 16 threads.

i *just* picked up one from a local thrift store for almost $15 after tax, it has a xeon e5-1650, 16gb of ddr3 (i think its ecc too), an nvidea quadro 4000, and no storage. i just got done replacing the dell branded toothpaste with noctua nt-h1, installed a 512gb ssd, replaced the optical drive, and am currently installing linux

Just have one too, my included 8pin to 2 x 6pin for graphics card. The cable inself cost $20. So, for the next guy when came to second hand pc, make sure the Sata and graphic power included otherwise it costly later on.

Having sold mine last year, i do miss it. They are a really nice computer. Ah well, I suppose if I want a better desktop than my current OptiPlex 9020, i'll go for another Precision, preferably a newer-ish dual cpu unit for the sake of running virtual machines on, and games like BeamNG.drive which do make use of all the CPU cores.

1) Generally speaking, the chipset spec list will show a supported list of processors, so it’s good to look there first. I don’t directly know if it would be compatible, I would guess so since it sounds compatible but Xeons aren’t my specialty. 2) no the power supply is proprietary to my knowledge so you do have to use the OEM.

You have to install a driver for the SAS controller. What I did was install DriverMax, pull the SAS driver, install it, then remove DriverMax (really annoying ads) then your SAS controller should work!

It might *barely* fit, that’s a big card. Also I don’t recall if there was ever a cable that went from the dell 8-pin to 8-pin PCIe power, or if a standard cable can be used. If not, of course a dual 6-pin to 8-pin adaptor can be used.

You can pop the rivets on the interior handle of the side panel and remove it to be able to fit most graphics cards. I have a T3610 (same overall design) and have fit a reference gtx 1080 and a sapphire pulse 5700xt in mine.

I don't have the eBay link but what you'll want to look up is Dell part number D92C9. It is for a Precision T5600 but it's the exact same as the T3600.

Use slots of the same color for dual-channel. So either the white slots only, or the black slots only. Don't mismatch as it will only work in single channel.
