LOL.. The "wait a minute" moment that makes watching reaction videos to this song such a joy. From 7:37 "and although there's some backing vocals with that thing going on here".. [will he catch it?] .. right up 'till the very end at 15:59 "Is it Floor..?". Man, you held me in suspense. Ty for that! 😂👍 Cheers from Amsterdam!
@JWSoundworks22 жыл бұрын
I had no idea I was being so closely monitored on this until the comments started rolling in 😂- I'm relieved to have mentioned it, haha. When I rewatched that moment I can see I actually stopped myself from making a comment about something else (can't remember what!) in order to say it! Glad your suspense wasn't in vein! 😂 Cheers!
@BrendonChase_20152 жыл бұрын
@@JWSoundworks2 That's so funny, since I remember catching that. You were talking abt how catchy Tuomas' orchestration was, while I dreaded the thought of you missing yr last chance of catching Floor who was up to her usual vocal trickery. And then at the very lastest of chances, I saw your gesture at 15:52 right after Tuomas' added ornamentation (string parts, I reckon). That's when time started stretching bcz I just knew for a fact that you were going to point out the subtle strings on top of the "hook". So there you had me, suspended in time, going: "N-nóóó, he's gonna miss it!". And then the unexpected turn of events to realign the universe.. Och man.. (your "och" or "ach" sounds very much like our Dutch "och", as you'd pronounce "loch" Ness), that was.. "fun". So well played, indeed! You saved my weekend, so have a nice one. You earned it! 🤣

I was a classical singer when I was young so naturally I focus on vocals and lyrics, but if I want to follow an instrument I'll close my eyes and just listen. So when you mentioned an instrument, I could close my eyes and pick it out from the rest. I can't follow more than one instrument at a time, but closing the eyes reduces the brain clutter and lets me, a non-instrument guy, follow the instruments. And yes, that was Floor on the growls. She did a fair bit of growling in her previous band, ReVamp.
@JWSoundworks22 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean - Although, I meant to try listening to a song for the *first* time and *ignoring* all the things you automatically tune into. That's not easy. On repeated listens of any song, of course it becomes much easier to do hyper-focused listening to individual instruments as you've already become familiar with the stuff you naturally picked out beforehand. I really don't know if it would be possible for me to listen to a song for the first time and actively push-away the entire sum being produced and focus on the words (at least enough to get an actual meaning or understanding of them - not just hearing the syllables). I guess it'd be kind of like watching a movie but focusing only on the dialogue and somehow ignoring all of the imagery even though your eyes are open. Or listening to someone recite poetry whilst there's a disco happening upstairs lol. It's definitely interesting discussing how we all hear the same song in different ways, or "experience" them in different ways. The beauty of art, and all that! Thanks for the comment!

This is a rough song for an instrumental reviewer .. the NW "Aren't you paying attention to Floor's Growlz"-trolls sit in wait with canned mockery queued up, ready to fire, lol. Being an "instruments first, vocalists third" kind of player, I totally get your point of view... Floor's off doing micro-tonal/siren-song/vocal-incantations in soft head voice... me? I'd be talking about how you can hear the slightly-worn-double-reed sound coming from a well-used oboe in the eighth-note accents, and how you would NEVER want NEW reeds in there because the attack might be too brisk. You gotta watch yourself around these Wishers of the Night. You are a brave man.

I think before I get too much older I kinda want to go around the country (& the world would be awesome) to go to shows at iconic venues. Floor is so expressive. As far as the appealing to loads of people just look at their crowds. Such diversity. And I don't think I can think of swearing in their stuff apart from one live song where Marko forgot his part & just comes out with a "fuck me" ha. As one who follows the lyrics I need people like you to point out the instruments & I'm getting better at active listening to songs & I'm enjoying them so much more. Oh you don't have to react to it or anything unless you want to but check out the growl off in Soilwork Let this River Flow live in Helsinki I think it is.
