Earlier this week, I watched Brian on Knowing Brothers, and his words broke my heart. He said that his vocal nodules have left him unmotivated to sing, and even watching other artists on stage no longer inspires him to perform like they do. But today JYP got Brian to sing! Even if it was just for a few seconds, I got tears in my eyes when I heard Missing you. Thank you, JYP. It’s still a long way back, but I’m not ready to give up on him just yet.

I love JYP's training system of making sure the kids have good grades before they are allowed to train. It's like FC Barcelona and their academy players. Humility, Honesty, Respect are some of the values they uphold and they produce the best football/soccer players in history. JYP has the same philosophy and you see people like Rain, Jackson Wang and Jay Park starting their own companies because of the great values they were taught.

I remember JYPE got flack for cutting out a trainee who represented them on some survival program and later it turns out that the trainee was discovered to have some bullying/assault allegations. There's a reason why his "kids" have the least amount of career-ending dirty laundry and even those who have left the company or are semi-retired are just doing their own thing like normal people instead of getting cancelled by TV networks or sitting in a jail cell.

JYP has a certain reputation and a lot of meme worthy moments but I’ve always had quite some respect for him. He really cares about the music and the artists as human being. “They’re somebody’s kids.” That was quite impactful as he is a father himself and understands from a parent’s pov. Bro, I am a 17 year old American girl and when he mentioned Hemingway and literary classics...his care for the kids....and then MOTOWN AND BERRY GORDY?! JYP IS TRULY A LEGEND! I grew in a family who taught me to love these greats he's mentioned! Wow, that's amazing! I always felt like my other interests(other interests being other than KPOP) kind of felt out of place when I thought of my love for the classics in music, literature, art, etc....but now I see it's all connected! I love that! As a musician, writer, a very family oriented person(especially for my elders and the little ones) respect! To all reading this, I hope you have a great day/night! You've got this!💜 Edit: Also when he elaborated on his perfectionism, as someone who has a good ear musically, I get the pain. I mean, I tend to be a bit more understanding and flexible with others(my negativity tends to stay more inside my head or towards myself lol). I also felt for Joon, though, cuz when I was practicing "My Heart Will Go On" with my vocal teacher....she kept lecturing me about the breathe thing. I understand it now, but still not completely. I'm a visual person, so the best way I can explain it is I was going straight then down to finish instead of just letting it fade out straight ahead with a breathier tone. I just I like my little ending vibratos with a little decrescendo, ok? LOL I'm also a stickler at the end of the day, when I have a vision in my head. I don't mind some imperfection, if you can make up for it with emotion. And as someone who really adores anthropology and just appreciates people having some...sympathy...some empathy...some compassion...I appreciated him acknowledging the culture difference. ANYHOO! THANKS FOR COMING TO MY TEDTALK! PEACE OUT! :D

JYP is the true definition of a hard worker but getting the rewards and, he's right. K-Pop till back then was nothing in the US and was a blip outside of Korea itself. However.. Everything changed around 2006-2008. Wonder Girls somehow, broke into the US market and started revolutionizing everything, even being the 1st K-Pop group, ever, to graze the Billboard Top 100 and not only that, broke records for Singles sold for the year at the top spot being the 1st K-Pop group or singers to ever do so in the US and... Surprise surprise.. That was JYP's work also. Then following Wonder Girls's success, another group broke into the US market and got real hot and that's SNSD. Their initial push wasn't into the US but the made waves and smashed the Japanese market, being one of the most famous groups till date that started the true breakthrough of K-Pop to the Asian markets at least as a way that K-Pop will not stagnate only in Korea alone with Gee, Genie, Run Devil Run, Kissing You all making waves outside of their home country and cementing both them and SM Entertainment as giants in the industry for years to come. However, it didn't reach till Psy broke the global market with Gangnam Style that K-Pop fully gained traction and glazed the entire industry to bits that K-Pop CAN actually dominate charts and even take Hollywood singers out of contention. That's how strong K-Pop had become. But still, if JYP didn't try with Wonder Girls or even in some sense, g.o.d, none of what the others did will happen. He took Wonder Girls to that market and opened the floodgates for others to follow.

Just look at MAMA2024 having one day in US. Unthinkable back in those days.

I got into Kpop through Wonder Girls. I have a lot of bitter feelings regarding what happened to Wonder Girls, but I always appreciated how JYP himself viewed his artists as human beings and not as products. It's obvious from the way he speaks about JYPE's training criteria and system that it's more than making money but also preparing the kids to be good people outside the entertainment industry. I still remember when Sunmi was having a hard time and had to drop out of Wonder Girls. Instead of abandoning her, JYP still supported her to become the solo artist she is today. I don't think JYP is perfect, but he's a good person who wears his heart and passion on his sleeve.

From this interview I feel JYP walks the talk. He looks after his health and mentally and physically stays young. He takes his role of mentor seriously and encourages the young hopefuls to get a rounded education, demonstrating that he is not just about profit. 🥰

Such a good episode 😂😂😂 JYP ended up just coaching them to perform his own song is so funny. Forever the top papa producer of kpop. This is so so good. I’m so glad I found this show. The pocha vibe is just so good and so fitting for Brian and Joon and it makes the guest experience so much better

Had so much fun watching this episode! Please invite Stray Kids (ALL 8 members) to BYOB, their unhinged, unfiltered chaotic ass energy matches perfectly with Brian and Joon! GIVE THEM ALL FREEDOM TO CUSS IN KOREAN AND ENGLISH, UNCENSORED. IT'S NOT A WANT, IT'S A NEED. (P.S. Stray Kids should do the Hot Challenge, I KNOW HALF OF THEM CANNOT TOLERATE SUPER SPICY FOODS. Just to see which members of SKZ are the most potty mouthed) IT WOULD BE A BLAST! 💀💀💀💀
