A police dog got an emotional final send-off call from colleagues ahead of his retirement. Vilo, a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois and German Shepherd Mix, had served five years in the Orem Police Department. On his final day of service, handler Quinten Schroemges called in to dispatch one final time, recording the conversation as colleagues gave Vilo a fitting send off.

Police K9 units constitute animal abuse. Many of these animals are horrifically abused in their training, especially the ones trained to go after suspects. They're beaten terribly. From an article called "Captain's story - a tragic window into police service dog training" : "Talking to experts who work with rejected police dogs, Pivot has learned of brutal training methods, including the use of prong collars, choke chains, and forced submission accomplished by seizing dogs’ testicles. Trained to believe that only a bite offers relief from a world of threats, these methods produce dogs that are fearful and reactive. To be adopted out requires specialized re-training. In some cases, dogs are rendered sufficiently traumatized that they must be put down." Worse, these dogs are then used as social media friendly propaganda to help clean the image of the police force. People posting on your FB about police corruption? Just make a silly viral video with the dog you're endangering. These sorts of posts have exploded in popularity since the spread of the BLM movement and heightened criticism of cops.

My daughter is a K9 officer, and her dog is “Atos”, he is part of their family, and is the sweetest and most loving dog, until she starts putting her uniform on and his vest, then it’s all business. I don’t worry about her each shift as much as unused to, because I know her partnrt is with her. Thank yo officer Vilo! And yes, apprehension is the best part!❤️

I have a pure bred German Shepherd, more show line than working, but he doesn’t know that. Thing about dogs is their incredible ability to simply live in every moment, being very present with all their senses, always ready to jump up and give you love, bark at people outside the home, enjoy a treat or nap, or greet and love up a total stranger. I’ve had several instances of getting stopped in strip centers in front of stores, people asking to pet, and they hug my boy and get teary and say they just lost their dog, or had a shepherd before, and my boy shows them just as much love, enthusiasm and affection as he does me..

My mother is a vet at one of the animal hospitals nearby, and our area has MANY police, FBI, secret service, and military dogs, many of which come to her particular practice. Our area has a charity (to which the name I have forgotten) that covers the expensive of our working dogs after they retire. Thank you so much for your service Vilo! Enjoy your puppy retirement

When you see those tears they are real. My buddy was part of the K9 unit of the local SWAT team. His K9's name was Grand. The "a" was pronounced as "ah" not "ay". Grand was as much as a partner as any human could have been. Well deserved send off. Enjoy your retirement and rawhides buddy.
