So what it sounds like, is that this girl has done nothing wrong her entire life, but has been relentlessly attacked by the public for “scandals” that she didn’t actually instigate. She develops an alcohol problem (shocking s/) and finally does something wrong. Now she’s being skewered because this one wrong thing is “in combination” with everything else? That everything else being nothing? The bakery thing was weird, but I’d be obstinate too, if I’d been baselessly attacked my entire life.

people can definitely have empathy for a person's situation without excusing their actions i think stephanie does such a great job of this not even just here, but in a lot of her videos! dispicable acts, but she always gives us insight into things that led up to that act (not that they're excusable or anything, but you get it) that said, having trauma does NOT give you an excuse to drink and drive there are so many people with so many varying levels of trauma they're not all drunking and driving likewise, not everyone who drinks and drives has heavy trauma the two should not be linked drinking and driving is a (stupid) decision someone makes

To be fair, all of us were once children and many adults have deep trauma of their own. No two traumas can be compared. people grow up as victims of sa, domestic abuse, homeless, mentally unwell and so much more, and alot of time that leads to drug use and alcohol abuse. I don't think we should be any more sympathy to a child star that endangers others life drinking and driving than we should to any other adult that was once a child with unimaginable trauma.

If peel the onion and go deep down into the entertainment industry you will know how evil they are, it's one reason why I won't ever let my kids do entertainment like being an actor, actress until they are all 18. This makes me mad...look at all the suicides that happen in Korea, the mental health issues in the entertainment industry, look at people like Sulli. Oh man, I didn't know about any of it. How disappointing for a man whose image is that of a "citizen of the world" if you will. If this is true, his DUI's should be exposed because you are not just an entitled ashole, you are putting other lives in danger. And about being homophobic, I also hope that is not true, because I have seen him wearing kind of gender-bending outfits and jewelry. To belong to the LGBTQA+ is not a trend, they are not a trend, they human lives who deserve respect, acknowledgment,t and the basic human decency of realizing how many fathers, mothers, families, and children have lost it all. Of course, humans are fallible and of course, I don't exclude myself at all, because God knows how many mistakes I have made in my "Non Celebrity" life. Just for added context, drunk driving became a nationwide talking point in Korea when a soldier was killed by a drunk driver in 2018 and now Koreans liken it to "potential murder" (which, they're not exactly wrong). It is an absolute career killer for Korean celebrities when it happens now, although celebrities with incidents in the distant past (such as Squid Game's main actor Lee Jung-Jae (who has two DUIs, the latest in 2002) seem to be in the clear.

This reminds me of when my parent's talked about Drew Barrymore's fall. "With her childhood it was bound to happen." The adults in both of their lives could've done much better. It's sad really.

HI Stephanie, There is a case of a mom who got killed in 2017 in front of her house, but before getting killed, she by herself found and got arrested 10 people who kidnapped and murder her daughter. This happened in Mexico. The moms name is Miriam Rodriguez Martinez, she was killed on mothers day. I hope you can cover this story sometime in the future!

Honestly, this is a product of how Korea has an affinity to perfection and how toxic everyone is to the opposite. Not only expecting everyone esp those in the public eye to be perfect but also finding every little mistake/flaw they have and then tear them down for it. And of course you'll find some flaw/mistake because people are human. And to be honest, it may seem that the netizens are doing this for public service/informatiom but no, it's just jealousy, envy for those with opportunities for success. It's crab mentality at it's most toxic.

This is so right about the trauma! It’s called Vicarious Trauma. As a healthcare interpreter we are asked to interpret everything in first person. It’s believed that because were repeating “I feel sick, I am drepessed, when am I dying, is there no cure for my illness? Etc” we are affected psychologically. So every couple months we’d have to get therapy for vicarious trauma. I can’t even imagine how badly these actors get it too

It should be pointed out that she wasn't "high stakes" poker (which would be illegal for any Korean citizen) but one of those places where you can play games for tickets to redeem prizes, which is not illegal in Korea.

You should do a video on Kim Ga-ram. She was a sixteen-year-old idol in the group Le Sserafim until she got accused of bullying. It blew up, and eventually she got kicked out in 2022. It seems like some people now feel bad about all the backlash she received from this. I’ve never seen anyone do a full, deep dive into the situation. I love your videos, and I think you’re an amazing storyteller, so I'm interested in seeing your coverage of the case.

We have a similar service here in Japan called "Daiko". Two drivers in a car will come to your location, one driver will drive your car with you, and the "daiko" car will follow behind so that your driver will have a ride to the next job. VERY useful. Should be a service made available in the US.

Wonderful point that her psyche would be greatly impacted by acting in those scenes. As a child she would care very little about making money and furthering her career. What children need is to feel safe and she was continually being put in situations that, real or imagined, threatened her safety.

I have so many questions for the parents though, even if she could not watch the shows but I would be very concerned if my child have to act continuously on such shows. Her being so mature (basing on the response) at such a young age also is quite alarming as that could signal that she had to be the parents for her parents instead of the other way around. Her agency also did such a terrible job in managing her look/scandal..

Many decided a long time ago that they hated her and nothing was going to change that, all they needed was to search for a reason and man they tried everything. What she did is wrong but I wish people would take into account her messed up childhood, working in movies with such intense topics, being so young but having so many eyes on her not to mention being bullied by these people since she was young. All of this had to have had a negative impact on her. I hope she works out any issues she's dealing with and makes a comeback, better than ever.
