What a brilliant and hilarious interview! His build-up to the "Canadian" joke is a masterclass in misdirection and comic timing. KD Lang is in tears with genuine laughter. So rare to see spontaneous laughter from a celebrity nowadays. Barry Humphries RIP

R.I.P. Barry Humphries (Dame Edna). We thank you for all the laughs you provided with your incredible wit, facial expressions and hilarious costumes. You were born to bring joy and side splitting laughter to us all. Thank goodness for KZbin we can continue to laugh and even cry from laughing through all the clips available to us. I suspect that many people will take advantage of this and maybe even have Dame Edna parties while viewing these HILARIOUS clips for years to come. If you don't laugh at theses clips you probably should see a doctor and have your funny bone checked out for they are guaranteed to make you laugh.

I’m a trans guy, and have always looked up to her. I often wonder how she feels about gender, as she never complains at being called she, even though everything about her says she would have been perfectly happy being born a guy. But she’s never said, so I suppose we can’t presume either way. It’s very difficult transitioning, there’s sexual function issues, and physical changes. K.D’s voice is the most beautiful one on planet Earth, and a tremendous gift. I’ve been on the T for two months and my voice is changing, and whilst that to me is a gift, and might enable me to join a singing group without humiliation, for K.D. having anything risk her voice is maybe unthinkable.
@freedombug11
@freedombug11 Жыл бұрын
@@andrewhaywood3853 I think it's certainly true that she wouldn't want to risk her voice. I don't know much about her, but there have been "butch" lesbians since forever and it's just fundamentally not the same thing as needing to be a guy. It's almost like people are forgetting that butch lesbians are a thing. Of course we don't know her private thoughts on it, but I think it's always better to just take people exactly as they seem to be unless they tell you otherwise. It's okay to be a butch lesbian that gets mistaken for a man. Being a trans guy is fine too, but since many more people are gay than truly trans, there are more butch lesbians in the world than there are trans guys. In some ways society seems to be suddenly losing its tolerance for homosexuality and for cross-dressing unless it is also tied up with gender identity. Transitioning with hormones (as you know) is pretty hard on the body and risky health-wise and I don't want society to confuse young gay and/or gender non-conforming kids into thinking that all of them are trans (and that if trans, that necessarily means they need medicalization). I hope none of that came across the wrong way.

"When did you first realise you were Canadian?" I swear that's exactly what made Dame Edna, or Barry Humphries, so successful in the satirical world it's because she says and leads you down conversation and out of no where, quips and one liners like that just appear out of nowhere. You can never tell what her intentions are or what she's going to say that it reminds me of the great Gene Wilder and his portrayal as Willy Wonka. That memorable scene of Willy Wonka introducing himself at the gates of the factory, with Gene slowly walking with a stick, then the stick gets stuck on the ground and he rolls over only to jump up again. He mentioned that he wanted to do that scene deliberately that way because he wanted everyone, the viewers, to know that that's his character, an unpredictable tornado from there on out. Genius.

Such cleverly kind way of eliciting responses that would be difficult, awkward and embarrassing if asked by say Baba Wawa or some other shmuck. This was both comic and incredibly moving. Evana seemed to recoil when K.D. Sat down and somehow midway through the interview she was patting KD on the back and was into the thing wholeheartedly. @@langsense Your pronouncements are humorous. KD is unashamed of her life preferences and it's no secret. I have quite a bit of experience with gays, starting with my long experience with jumping horses, where 40% of the women involved are gay, and 90% of the grooms are gay. Long ago, for me it just became a "factor" and not an "issue". It is what it is and gaydom is not a selection. The problem is, like you, there are still people who have an aversion to gays, primarily out of fear or a lack of understanding. So whenever I encounter "gay" as a factor, I don't run from it, I embrace and recognize it. That's what sets me apart from you. KD is gay, that's a fact, and a fact she deals with constantly, as do all gays. The good news is, more and more people are recognizing that gay people are not the devil, and they're not really different, but it is an unexplainable circumstance that sets them apart from mainstream humanity. So when I recognize the likelihood that someone will take the low road, I defend my position up front, as I have here. I am a go-for-the-throat guy. So let's take another step along my nature's trail. I don't need you or anyone like you telling me what I can or can't say. That's the beauty of my America, and a right I won't allow to be stifled. You obviously have an element of homophobia and Karenism, which doesn't surprise me. But like all Karen's I meet and can't wait to embrace in conflict, I leave you with my favorite Karen metaphor, which is "I have three words for YOU, and they involve Sex & Travel.

The Canadian question . . . genius, Dame Edna!
@jadenkhor3523

the scene leading up to "when did you first know you were canadian" was so intense, sounded like she was going to touch on a sensitive, controversial topic which K.D. was sorta expecting only to burst out in laughter and tears when dame edna asked something totally off-topic and irrelevant, something the audience never saw it coming. THIS is why i think dame edna is the queen of comedy talkshow not only because of her outrageously hilarious anecdotes but also the way she engages her audience and leave everyone laughing in the end.

Many might not know what you are typing about. ( not smart people on social media. ) "When did you first know you were Canadian"! Many thought Dame was going to say...." When did you first know you were a lesbian"! ( That's why everyone laughed )

This will always be my favorite Dame Edna interview. Ivana Trump is about as interesting 🧐 as wallpaper drying! Seeing kd in person is at the top of my bucket list. I know that will never happen but I did see Dame Edna in person many years ago and what a treat it was!!!

I don't think k.d. knew what to make of the DAME until she asked her the utmost personal question, "When did you know you were Canadian?" Just great.
