k.d. lang, singer-songwriter and activist, laureate of a 2023 Governor General's Performing Arts Awards Lifetime Artistic Achievement Award, sat down with Denise Donlon at The Westin Ottawa for her Legacy Interview. Ms. lang talks about her career and shares her best advice for young people.

I worked for the IATSE local in Ann Arbor, MI, years ago. K.D.'s "Constant Craving" was hot on the airways. I was working on the setup and hung around for the show. K.D. started singing, and I said, "Whoa!" She had the voice of an angel. True props to you, K.D.!

k d used to play the Railway Club here in Vancouver in the late 80s. That's where I first saw her perform and heard her music. I was a punk-goth but adored this artist. "Big Boned Gal" is a classic! Through all of her incarnations I remained a fan but when she released "Hymns of the 49th Parallel" I was in awe. She's just 3 years older than me so the timing of this release was perfect for our ages. I feel grateful to be alive while she was a Canadian producing and performing her craft. Thank you miss lang.

K D you were a great daughter. When my hubby and I would go out for dinner in Edmonton we would see you taking your Mom out for dinner at a little restaurant in Riverbend. I was always remember that people here would not bother them and let them have their time together. I miss not hearing you singing anymore because you are a great Canadian singer. I'm sad I never got to see her in person at a concert. Same of Tina turner although I did see Ike and Tina in the 60"s at their very beginning. It was in a small dance place in a strip mall in Santa Ana, CA. I don't think they had the Ikettes yet, but I just knew she was going places. I followed them to two more places in the county and that was that last time I saw them live. Love k.d. and her pure voice. What a gift to her and the world of music.
