The vice principal is very biased. She asked the teacher to apologise to the parent who assaulted the teacher yet she said, no one saw the assault incident. The parent who assaulted her is very much guilty of the assault. She chose not to remember the incident. I despise this kind of parents’ behaviour to teachers, they are bullies.

As an westerner, I find it VERY interesting that attention is focused on teachers and students, when bullying behavior is CLEARLY something that is a FOUNDATIONAL pillar of the culture. This is evidenced by how the PARENTS of the students treat teachers and administrators. The way the administrators treat the teachers. How ANYONE in a position of power, seniority/ age or money exerts the most control in every situation. To ONLY focus on students and teachers is too narrow a view. Heck, even kpop & kdrama fans bully their favorite performers! This is a national crisis and won't go away until it's dealt with as such.

"If you want to look at the civilised society, just look at their manners and language." That's what happened when a society values someone according to their power, money, seniority, age, and position. Instead of manners, decency, language, and behaviour. MANNERS MAKETH MEN. Just because they pay someone's salary doesn't mean they are above the law. And whoever thinks or shows behaviour that is above the law is never a civilised man. Not by long shot.

i havent watched the video yet but this sounds like totally the opposite of the West where the teachers are allowed to do whatever they want to the kids regardless of what the parents want, including teaching them about pronouns and gender ideology and gay homosexual sex when they are in elementary school. You see the degeneracy and lack of accountability play out as there are countless examples of teachers raping the students.

You hit the nail right on the head there. Manners apply to everyone. Children can't learn good manners when all they experience is bullying from their contemporaries & everyone who is older than them. Everyone should have good manners with everyone. Manners are not age related, the eldest should be guiding the way, not using their age to mistreat others. Remember to treat others as you wish to be treated & I don't think anyone wants to be bullied, assaulted & humiliated.

How can a company reject a letter of resignation? Is this job a form of slavery that Koreans can't quit?
@Chellz801
@Chellz801 6 ай бұрын
I think it mostly has to do with power and leverage. If a job knows you need a good recommendation or background to get a new job they can hold that over your head and force you to stay in a job if they contact your previous employer. Lots of ppl in other countries may have just stopped showing up but your reputation as a teacher precedes you in SK. It seems like they were putting her in the corner to keep the upper hand. They knew they could get away with bullying her by leveraging her reputation and next job against her. It’s disgusting and another form of power abuse and bullying that’s prevalent in man work places in the country.

I'm a teacher of 17 years. Sometimes, I really wonder...what's actually happening to the education system worldwide. Parents are always blaming others for what's lacking in their children. I met with one parent & told her that I only teach your child e few periods a week & if there's any problem with the child, she should know better. I warned her that I'll not be hesitant to lodge a police report if she bothers me again.

Korean society is actually built on bullying sadly enough. Those who think they are in a position of control/have an advantage over another will often take liberties. You see this all the time in Korea especially how customers treat those that serve them or managers or business owners to their employees. In the case of these teacher deaths, it's basically a customer to service worker situation and the customer is king as they say in Korea. Korea has a massively dysfunctional society and this just one of things my country of birth needs to be ashamed of. Shame on those of who bully or tolerate this kind of behaviour. Mental illness is rampant in Korea as well.

South Korea really needs to do about this bullying and verbal abuse . People are really dying due to this it's not just ordinary citizens but Idols or celebrity also who committed suicide due to harassment by fans. People need to teach their kid to respect privacy of others , don't compare yourself to others, don't tease about parents economical status or their jobs. More importantly tell your kids to accept People as it is don't go after beauty. Whether the person is black or brown or white respect them , don't treat them like a trash . When parents will start to behave in good manner automatically kids will learn from them. So change that beauty standards mentality first. Stop abusing others , stop bullying...

Recently one boy choked his classmates that almost cost his life those who filmed it, the perpetrator, the teacher who was on duty and did not monitor them and the parents that tried to cause trouble was picked up by police. The bully after 6 months in police custody was suspended from the school permanently and no school is ready to take him till he goes through evaluation

As a private elementary teacher in the Philippines, I really feel so sad to this documentary. It's not easy to deal with the parents complaints. They don't understand that untoward incidents is beyond our control. They always blame us "teachers" in everything. Imagine, one teacher out of 40 diverse students. Even at night, instead of resting you still need to respond to their demand and complaints. We are supposed to focus to their academic aspect, but kids today have behavioral problem, well in fact the parents must be the one who discipline and teach their child about good manners and behavior at all times. My first teaching experienced is a worst, I almost give up as well but my family needs me since I'm the breadwinner. I'm soooooo tired :(

Now, those parents who complained are mourning. But what will it do to her? She had taken her own life because of the blame you used to throw at her. I am not a teacher but I understand how hard it is to be one. If it is hard to raise 3kids, how much more raising a whole bunch of kids with different attitude and personalities? These parents should not blame the teachers, specially when it is very obvious that she is responsible and nice to our kids. Remember, you kids stay longer at home than in school. Whatever you make your kid at home will be shown in other places. So never blame teachers, you parents, hone your kids to who they really are.

We have new generations of soft parents who can't discipline their kids, so they blame the teachers. This is everywhere, not just SK. Teaching is one of the most important professions in our society as they guide our youth toward a better future, but teachers are one of the most underappreciated and underpaid. These are the types of people who need to be in politics. Imagine if the prerequisite to be a politician was at least 10 years as a teacher.

This made me so upset. I cried so much watching this. I’m currently a primary school teacher in Sydney, Australia and I can relate to some of this. The workload and expectations have increased ten fold and we are in a teacher shortage crisis. Teachers are exhausted and want to teach without the administrative burden. Thankfully, the students respect teachers, and for the most part parents are incredibly supportive and understanding but I can see this job would be impossible if those things did not go hand in hand.

I commend all the teachers. I used to be a teacher, but I just couldn't do it. (I was a teacher for 2.5 years) I used to teach Sunday school at my local church and thought this is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Teach and guide kids into their futures. Teaching is not an easy profession. If anything it's an under appreciated career. Under paid, over worked. Children (Students) were never an issue. However parents are another thing. There are a lot of parents that believe in absolutely NO DECIPLINE as they raise their children. I have no idea why this became such a trend, but it is ruining future generation. It's creating future generation that don't realize their actions will have consequences. Problem is these children are now adults and having their own children. These are the parents that thinks they are above everyone else, with no consequences. Also the parents that basically DO NOT CARE AT ALL what happens to their kids... It pissed me off so much. This was the worst. They don't send their kids with proper clothes (especially for winter), sends them with no lunch, no school supplies. And these people will blame the schools for not providing them. I could go on, but it will make me feel stressed out, so I will leave it at that. I just want to say I got out before my mind broke.

i think the korean education system's values on rank and scores as the absolute north star to measure a student's ability plays a pretty big role in the background of every classroom. students often have to compete with each other in one or two metrics to have a chance to make it to a competitive college, which makes the small margins of difference feel like huge gaps between the students. because korean families often see education as one of the primary ways in which a family can move up in the socioeconomic ladder, there's a lot more scrutiny, obsession, and excessive response to every small factor that could potentially affect the student's ability to perform. stress is passed between parents, students, and teachers in all directions, and its unhealthy. lines of privacy and respect are crossed in the mentality of ends justifying the means. korean tiger parents are just the beginning of it. again, korea's education has an extremely outdated value system that hasn't been updated since the beginning of korean modernization in the 1950's, and the korean people are paying for the lack of change. the consequences move past the days of a person's education, and does a great job of entrenching the current status quo of the disparity between the abilities of those with and without resources to move forward - all of which is the fuel that creates the unhealthy behaviors to begin with. if korea can change its education system to rewarding different measures of success, then the impact on society can be great.

Entitled that they have the right to disrespect, assault, accused of child abuse those teachers, in which that is very wrong, no wonder why they suffer anxiety, depression, and change their careers and the worst is end their life. The school should have their back, they should investigate and not to side to parents straight away. The parents know that that will always win against teachers because the school will side to them. I wonder if any meaningful reform will happen, especially as the issue has to do with individuals behaving poorly (both students bullying each other and parents harassing teachers). In the United States, things have fallen apart so badly over many years of bad policies and poor behavior. We're now feeling the effects more than ever, but I believe it's too late. Most teachers I know just try to survive most days. I say this as a high school teacher who is desperately looking for other options. I've seen three of my colleagues be dragged to the floor and beaten by students, where they get only 10 days of suspension and then laugh when they get back. I've had students tell me to kill myself and some found my address and threatened me after simply telling them to put their phone away. Administration does not care. Parents say "what do you want me to do about it?" or, "while they're at school, they're your problem." It's horrific and it seems like no one cares until it affects them directly. I went into this to help children. I can't count the amount of times in the past year that I've thought I'd rather die than be a teacher for my entire life. My heart goes out to all other teachers suffering in this terrible profession.

Unfortunately this is unique to Korea... I taught years in Japan and have seen countless teachers breakdown in the staff crying after parents abuse them and the school admin not giving any of the teachers the support they need, but instead only try to appease the parents. This seems to happen more often to younger, fresh grad teachers where I guess the parents think they have more authority because they're older? And of course, gender in Japan comes into play too... male teachers are often given more of a pass simply because there's an image of men being more capable in the workplace than women.

First, I express my condolences to the teachers who passed away - it's really sad that a young person ends his life. I myself am a teacher for many years, I taught in high school with many very spoiled children - and I had several cases where students made problems and once a student tried to hit me but, I was much stronger than him - but the result was not long in coming - the education system that came towards the student... . My solution was to leave the education system - but I continued to work in colleges and universities - even there I sometimes encountered hostility but I always knew how to get along... I wish the teachers to be educated and strong!

And no one was held responsible? Those parents could have done better. That young teacher who took her life was a great loss. If adults cannot be good role models, what do they expect of their children? It's a rat race. Children and teens are expected to do so well academically and if it's the only good thing to chase after in life.

A lot of those school accept bribes from the parents as well. Such a toxic society - I remember watching a documentary about how those bullies end up becoming doctors and teachers, it’s like a repeating pattern.

it happened to me not in korea but in ny , this korean woman came with her daughter , told her she needed a guarantor to rent an apartment , explained to her the process but demanded to speak to the owner of the building , told her there was nothing to talk to the owner and she started screaming at me and got really nasty , when she realized she wont get her way just left

Here in our country if a student cannot be controlled by a teacher or if he or she is not improving in his studies the parents of that child will be summoned by the teacher or the guidance counselor to warn them about the situation of the child in school...and if there is no sign of improvement from the child he will be expelled or drop out from school

The problem is more systemic due to the insane performance pressure on citizens from kindergarten to workplaces which results in unrealistic expectations on students, teachers, and employees due to the extreme detriment of physical, and especially mental well being. The old men in legislature need to understand the world needs to change.

It is fascinating how these parents are making a problem out of nothing. If this happened here, people would look at the parent as if there are crazy😂. It is like “are you that childish to the degree that you are making a big fuse of a small fight between children”.

S. Korean parents when it involves their children can't see logic. Only their POV. And the system is more inclined to the parent and not to be objective. Thus making it worse. Teachers are silent sufferers.

Bullies and their parents. Nothing more than just a bunch on insecure people with lots of inferiority complex issues, seeking to control others by force yet they can't even control themselves. What a lovely bunch of people.

An issue is that suicide historically was seen as an option when feeling shame or having not meet expectations/obligations. So that has to change too, that leaving the profession because of bullying is not shameful, but self-respect and necessary. You are allowed to be happy and live, and you have done nothing wrong and you are not a failure in such a sick culture where age hierarchy makes people and parents believe they can treat people like dirt and can demean teachers.
@wanr5701
@wanr5701 7 ай бұрын
They think they can treat teachers like dirt because they pay the salary of the teachers through taxes. They think they can treat artists and idols like dirt because they pay for the merchandise, albums, singles, songs, movie, tickets. They think they can treat service providers like dirt because they pay for the services. In short when they can afford and pay for it, they think they are above the rules and laws. A typical Nouveau Riche syndrome.

What is wrong with these parents?? And why do the schools and society put such ridiculous restrictions on their teachers? Korean teachers, you’re welcome to come teach in the US (depending on your English). We have a teacher shortage in many states and while it’s not perfect either, it’s better than what I see here.

How can a natio makes so good music and movies and yet be so dysfunctional?? I don't understand, why can the parents bully the teachers? What the hell is wrong with them. I saw the documentary 'dead at arrival', about Korean truckdrivers working so long they die due to the lack of sleep, another about children not seeing their parents coz they have to work all the time. I now understand the very low level of birthrate in Korea... Korea is driving itself of off a cliff

It’s no wonder why so many teachers are quitting because parents are not willing to take up their responsibilities and work with them resulting in behavioral problems with the students in fact some have dubbed this period the end of the era of the great teacher. Teachers are educators not babysitters society needs to stop putting up unreasonable demands on teachers more so under appreciating their skills for they too are human beings with families and a life too.

shockingly fast transition within a culture has meant that the new generations are like a completely ddifferent species to those that transitioned from rural South Korea, to the technological *the kids are more individualistic and westernised and have a clearer self-concept, making them more creative, with more potential in this way, but also less hard-working and more ssceptical, Less respectful of authority , More ambitious personally (more likely to leave the country and work elsewhere, rather than mindlessly competing in ridiculously unfair conditions (in many of the careers) *I was in school, in the 80's in the UK and respect for teachers was moderate even then, due to the individualistic and personally Ambitious culture. Teachers had to have different techniques to deal with this and they do so in the West.Unforrtunately, it's got oout of control in the West also and teachers Our suffering. There is now and occasionally get violated, but they definitely have beetter techniques to deal with dissent than South Korea does currently, where the teachers are from the generation that transitioned

Why is bullying such a problem in South Korean schools? It’s very strange to a Westerner’s view from outside looking in. There is definitely too heavy of an emphasis on the superficial. Such as, wealth, looks and material goods. Hence, the reason so many South Koreans seem to feel hopeless.

This is very sad. Too sad! Teachers should be respected by everyone. Especially students and parents! How do you expect the child to respect their teacher if their parent doesn't? Unbelievable! I'm sorry, but they need unions over there. Freaken every worker is being tormented and punished by people who think they're superior and even if they'resuperior, that'sno way to treat a human being. Urgh! Asians! So frustrating! Quit taking messing around with people! Yes, I'm Asian, people do that to me too, but I don't let them. If I catch myself doing that to other people, I slap myself crazy and do things myself. 😂 Trust me, I frustrate myself. Lol
