yeaa people in the comments siding with either David or the in-laws seem to not get that they need their own home too or quick to jump on David because he seems to "take things lightly". At least he was trying a food truck business and now is an actor which isn't the worst we've seen on this channel lol (the martial arts guy). Part of me agrees that he should try harder in learning Korean and the reason he's so slow to adapt is because his wife is enabling him by speaking to him in Portuguese(?). The family definitely shows mutual love for each other, just hard to express because of the language barrier or different ways of showing love but it's definitely there. edit: judging from his instagram pics, he has his own restaurant now

Biggest lesson that i ‘ve learned from my parents, don’t get married if your not financially, emotionally and mentally stable and of course financially is the most important one. no one told him to live in Korea, I also think that learning a language is very important if we want to establish bonds, on the one hand his wife is right to talk to her mother so that she does not care if he does not want her help, on the other hand, the mother-in-law is also right because s he wants to have contact with his son-in-law, and without a good knowledge of the language it is impossible

So inspiring. So real. I am also in a 2,5 relationship with a great Finnish man. We are both in Finland and just welcomed our first child. As life turns out, parenthood isn’t easy, comes with a lot of challenges and changes. In just seven days of welcoming our son, we’ve experienced so much: Joy, tears, frustration, tiredness, pain, boredom, you name it, but after a quarrel and some silence and distance, there’s always us coming back for a hug and a kiss. Yesterday I was thinking if we were doomed as a couple, perhaps because I tend to have high expectations of my love relationships, but today after seeing this video I believe there’s still love and above all, hope.

To be honest I see a lot of love and care from David's in-laws. Whilst I get that he is uncomfortable not having his own space, he needs to embrace the culture he's married and moved into and accept it's going to take time to be able to afford their own place. He desperately needs to prioritise learning Korean though, which includes asking his wife to speak mostly Korean to him.
@krys___
@krys___ 2 жыл бұрын
People need to be more sensitive to different cultures and more respectful of elders. You’re in Korea and this MIL’s behaviour isn’t something out of the ordinary. You may not be used to this “nagging” as you like to call it, and maybe sometimes it seems to be too much for you, but is it really that big of a deal? Respect for elders is a big thing in many parts of Asia. If you are planning on marrying someone there then be ready to adapt a little and accept that things will be different. If you can’t be respectful and accept this way of life (which by the way is totally normal for Koreans and not a burden for them) then maybe you should rethink staying there.
@samysdefer
@samysdefer 2 жыл бұрын
Yea well... I think the respect of the elders-things is super outdated. They should also respect younger people, otherwise they have no one who takes care of them - since pensioner get almost no money from their state. If the adaption is one sided, it won't work out.

@@samysdefer no one to take care of them? Pension? That’s not the right way to look at things. Our parents birth is, raise us, go through hell and back for us. No way in hell would I ditch them when they are older and vulnerable. Nor would I ever think or say that their pension isn’t gonna take care of their needs so they better watch out otherwise I won’t care for them. They have done so much for me, so I feel it’s my duty and I would be honoured to care for them if they ever need me. The older generation means no harm and are trying their best to be great parents and grandparents. Their parenting style may differ from the youngsters. If one doesn’t like it then go ahead and make some changes when it’s your turn as a parent. Change is happening but will take time. The MIL teaching the SOL might seem like they are being hard on him. But you will understand them for doing so because they have a daughter to protect and take care of. If he doesn't learn fast with the language and korean culture, ot will be hard for him to look for a better job. They worry for them. It will be hard for him to understand that because he is from a liberated country where they do what they want.

@@chrisathian5450 I'm not western. But this generational wealth thing is bs. Unless you are a special class of rich east asian, you'd be used by the industry working for a westerner. 76% of millionaires in US are western, 9 out of 10 richest are all western dudes (most of them have divorced once in their lives) so please, tell me how staying in a bad marriage just because you asian help you financially? You only see some rich Asians and forget that the vast majority of Asia still needs help. It's not "running away everytime problem arise" its cutting losses when things need to end. The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. Asian couples stay in the same marriage over and over again and expect it to miraculously change and they grow old and pass down the same habit and trauma to their kids. It's called generational trauma.

When she said the yearly rent is 220,000 , does she mean weekly or monthly? Cause that's only $240 in Australian. So is the captions having an error. If this is per week that is unbelievable CHEAP! For apartments in Australia it's usually around $360-$420 + (347,519 - 384,174 won) or that same type of apartment except here its surrounded by trees and parks and a larger bathroom. I can't afford to buy a house at the moment as its around 274,247,214 ($300,000 AUD ). Just shows that if I were to live in Korea I would be able to buy a house. But I wouldn't move from Australia, I love the laid back feel and trees and gardens everywhere.

Well you can't compare Australia to other Asian countries because the cost of living, especially in Sydney, is really high. There's a reason why the value of a dollar differs from one country to another because it depends on the country's economy. You may be earning more in Australia if converted to Korean Won but your cost of living is also high so you are spending more than you'll spend if you are living in Korea. You will never afford an apartment in OZ if you are working in Korea because the salary range is just different. So there's no point comparing when these two countries have different economic status. You can't even compare the cost of living in Sydney to New York and so as the salary.

@@magwayen5915 yes I know that , my main point of me saying this was thinking to myself that if I moved to Korea I would have already bought a house. Its just the realisation that in one country (where I am now) I am below the poverty line but if I got up and took my money and savings I would be living comfortable, its just a strange idea. My family live all over the world from Africa, India, UK etc so I know all to well about the comparison of the differences in the power of money. Also by people saying so much "Korea is so expensive" I was expecting the prices to be alot higher, so it was just surprising to see as an outsider how cheap it is.

Yes it is a 💯 % weird AF for most Westerners to live with their in laws. . Bc we're of the belief that's what children do. Not adults, and especially not those who have paired up ( got a mate) The need for privacy is Soo REAL for us. Although, I am of clear understanding of the Eastern side of the world viewing it differently and why. Nevertheless, I'm still taken aback everytime I hear an Easterner ask a Westerner " you don't like living my mom and dad?" Straight faced, genuine and obviously perplexed. I still to this day, don't know how to reply. It just seems it's obvious that we don't but, to be asked and made to feel as if we're "mean", "weird" or so American is just so rude (AF) , insensitive and shows that some people lack the ability to see beyond their yard.
