Excellent video with lots of practical advice - as usual - thanks AK! I always have to remind myself to keep it simple when playing live; I'll get nervous and start to play a machine just because it's there, instead of just letting a simple but funky groove do its thing until its time to move onto the next section, do you know what I mean? When that happens the music gets crowded, incoherent, and I lose the narrative thread. Or I'll try to keep it simple but something will be missing, like the sample in the background, or some sort of syncopation in the drums that you always refer to, those things that keep the groove moving - so this video is super helpful! Do you think you could describe the structure in general of a typical live track in terms of musical components (instruments or sections of instruments) and timing (bars and/or minutes)? Thanks again! All the best from Fez!

@@AnalogKitchen I've model my rig like a mini version of your rig . . ie; Digitakt + aTetra and a Circuit Tracks + a Motif sound module, a small mixer and assorted Delay/Distortion/Mod boxes with plans to add a Minitaur (gotta have that Moog Bass!) and a Dreadbox Nymphes ! Have Fun ! 😀 !

@@AnalogKitchen Something about a major based sound in melodic techno with that analog hardware is just nostalgic af. I feel like I am in an arcade in the early 90's. Or playing a SNES or Sega game around the same time. Music is an interesting language, memes and all.

Don't you feel that in the beginning it feels odd but after a while it becomes a cool vibe

@@AnalogKitchen I would agree. That is sort of a subversion of expectations. Not everything needs to be dark and gritty all of the time. Some times, a bit of whimsy is a crucial component of music. Beethoven wasn't only...DunDunDunDunnnn. He used tons of orchestrated whimsy, waltzs, two steps, chord switches, key modulations, etc. And he could barely even hear what he created lol.

@@AnalogKitchen My meta point though, if I had one, is that those styles of arpeggios are really common in some videogame music. (The hardware demands of memory required it to be so. Arps were VERY memory efficient.) When you use a modern analog symphony of hardware though...something more unique occurs other than "chiptune" music. Or 8bit music. You get this like 20hz to 30khz sound wall. Stereo. Panning. Phase control. You could even do 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound if u wanted to. Real or faked.

Is this the kind of song you play right before you play the last banger so people do not drive home fuxxed up? 1 minute after last call?

Dude, I never stop. Noone goes home. Me neither! We all die on that dancefloor... ☠

@@AnalogKitchen Lol. Yeah, I was just remembering the DJ culture history of how people were dying in drunk driving accidents, so DJ's would literally wake people dafuq up about 10 minutes after last call, then keep them there until they were sober(and awake) enough to drive home safely.
